“I’m Still In The Running To Be A Lopez:” Sheryl Underwood Defends Ya Boy
We rarely talk about “The Talk,” but whenever we do it seems to be because Sheryl Underwood has disappointed us, yet again. (Exhibit A, Exhibit B)
This week’s upset comes by way of the comedienne’s defense of fellow comedian George Lopez, who pissed off many a Black woman — including one in his own audience — when he told a joke about one of two rules in the Latino family being you don’t marry somebody Black. When a woman in the crowd threw up her middle finger at the remark, the Mexican-American comic then called her every b-tch in the book and told her sit her a– down.
Enter Sheryl Underwood who wants to remind us George isn’t racist. George likes Black people. I like George. Oh, and it was the audience member’s own fault for getting cursed out.
“I have great affection for George Lopez,” Sheryl started, to which co-host Aisha Tyler chimed in with, “As do I; he’s been very kind to both of us in our careers. He’s helped us both and he’s a good friend.”
Estate Of NOLA YouTube Personality Messy Mya Suing Beyoncé Over “Formation” Vocal Sample
According to Vulture, the estate of late YouTube personality Messy Mya is actually suing the singer over a sample of his vocals from some of his popular videos that were heard in “Formation.” The estate alleges that Beyoncé used them without permission. While the official song doesn’t actually feature the late New Orleans native’s voice, the video does. You can hear him open the clip saying, “What happened at the New Wil’ins / B—h I’m back, by popular demand.” Those vocals came from his 2010 video “Booking the Hoes From New Wildin.” According to TMZ, vocals from his 2010 video “A 27 Piece Huh?” were also used, in particular, the part where he says,”Ooooooh yeah, baby. Oh yeah. Ohhhhh! Oh yes, I like that.”
While it’s unclear why the estate chose a year later to call this out, they say that they tried to reach out to ‘Yonce’s people on multiple occasions to set things straight but never received a response. So now, they are asking for $20 million in back royalties and according to TMZ, “other damages for using some of his final recorded words.”
The Game Denies Kicking Dark-Skinned Girls Out Of His Super Bowl Party
The Game was accused of kicking a group of women out of his home because they were dark-skinned. He says they were removed because they were strangers.
The Game hosted a private Super Bowl party in the comfort of his own home where only 20 friends, family members and close associates were invited. But of course, anytime word spreads that a famous rapper is throwing a party, a few uninvited guests wind up there.
The Game says that as he noticed there were some unfamiliar faces in his home, he asked around to see if they knew anybody. When it was confirmed that they did not know anyone, they were asked to leave. However, one of the women is claiming that she was asked to leave only because of the color of her skin.

Vogue Magazine Accused Of Photoshopping To Hide Ashley Graham Thighs
Welp! They tried it. VOGUE’s March cover was released this week and it’s drawing mixed reviews. The cover ladies celebrate how fashion is starting to embrace our differences by including plus model Ashley Graham, Liu Wen, the first Asian model to cover VOGUE, the lovely and freckle-faced Adwoa Aboah and one of our faves, Egyptian-Moroccan model Imaan Hammam. But Kendall Jenner is also there, and most readers with eyes notice Gigi Hadid’s arm appears to be stretched by Photoshop to cover Ashley Graham’s waist. There’s also Graham’s own arm, reaching down to cover a thigh that’s much wider than the other girls. People definitely notice these things.

Music Industry Vet Shanti Das On A Mission To Tackle Heart Disease
Music Mogul Teams Up With American Heart Association To To Raise Awareness
Music industry veteran Shanti Das has partnered with the American Heart Association to encourage people of color to take control of their health.
Das, the CEO and founder of Press Reset Entertainment, has been named one of the Association’s newest ambassadors for its “EmPowered To Serve” movement, where she’s encouraging people to learn more about how to prevent heart disease, blood pressure and strokes. Heart disease is the number one killer of all Americans, and people of color are disproportionately at risk.
That prevention includes educating the community about the importance of more fruits and veggies in their diets, eradicating food deserts, lobbying legislators and making sure neighborhoods have access to decent grocery stores, she said.
“We just want people to know that this is preventable,” Das told BOSSIP. “We want to raise awareness and get people on board.”
February is National Heart Month.
Das also starred in a mini-documentary, “Take Me Home,” chronicling the lack of healthy food options in the Atlanta neighborhood where she grew up.
“For me, we had to drive at least five miles to get a great grocery store,” she said, adding that little has changed since she recently returned.

Florida Man Shoots His New Bride In The Butt Because She Refused Him Sex
After 7 months of marriage 76-year-old Donald Royce and his 62-year-old bride, still had not consummated their union and he was growing more and more agitated.
His frustration turned violent when couple began to argue over their lack of sex according to NYDailyNews:
The couple’s roommate said she heard the arguing followed by two gun shots, Four In Your Corner reported. When she went to see what happened, Royce pointed the gun at her but she was able to talk him into letting her call the ambulance for his wife.
When authorities arrived at the home, Royce immediately confessed telling police, “I shot her and the gun is in my room.” When questioned at the police station, Royce said that he got married in August, but had yet to consummate the marriage.
Royce told the cops that he didn’t mean to shoot his wife, he was trying to aim for the mattress. Because that makes total sense. SMH.
Ol’ Donald has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Surveillance footage showing a woman distressed in Cincinnati is going viral. The footage shows an abusive boyfriend abusing his baby momma in the McDonald’s drive-thru while she’s attempting to hand the baby off to the employee through the window. The child’s father, Levenski Crossty, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts. The baby’s mother was treated for two black eyes, a cut on her head, and a bite mark on her hand.

Earlier this week, we reported that Madonna was in the process of adopting 2 twin children from Malawi.
Today, the material girl announced that the children are now in her custody.
That was quick, wasn’t it? Doesn’t this sort of thing usually take MONTHS?? TMZ reports that since Madonna has already been through the adoption process twice in the African country, the courts took that into consideration and pushed the paperwork through.
A government-appointed guardian will accompany Madge and the twins back here to the states to ensure that the home environment is up to snuff. Provided the agent finds it suitable, the twins are all Madonna’s.
If you’re giving Madonna the side-eye, it’s totally understandable. All we hope is that those kids have a good life and grow to be productive members of this society.

New Study Shows That Black People Have Bias Against Black Hair
Do you love your natural hair?
A new study claims that all people, including black folks, hold an implicit bias against the types and styles of natural hair worn by black people. According to NPR, The “Good Hair Study” was conducted by Perception Institute, known within the research community as “a consortium of researchers, advocates and strategists” that uses emotional and psychological research to identify and reduce bias in areas such as law enforcement, education, civil justice and the workplace.
The hair study resulted from a partnership with Shea Moisture to better understand the link of implicit and black textured coils. Researchers asked over 4,000 participants to take an online test, which involved rapidly-changing pictures of black women with permed hair then black women with more natural hair.
The study showed that most people, including blacks, have an implicit bias towards women of color based on their hair. But the results of the test show that the bias can be unlearned.
Some key findings confirm that black women suffer more anxiety around hair issues, and spend more on hair care than their white peers. They are almost twice as likely to experience social pressure at work to straighten their hair compared to white women.
The study also concludes that “White women demonstrate the strongest bias — both explicit and implicit — against textured hair.” They rated it as “less beautiful,” “less sexy/attractive” and “less professional than smooth hair.” However, white women who are in contact with black women naturalistas demonstrated lower levels of bias. Given that white women make up a large majority of the 38 percent of female managers who decide what looks are appropriate for work, legal conflicts sometimes ensue.

Actress Simone Missick is covering the latest issue of “Rolling Out” and speaking on her stardom. The “Luke Cage” actress posed for pristine photos and dished to the publication about her delayed journey as an actress.
According to Missick she thought she’d make it at 28 like Gabrielle Union, and found herself discouraged when that didn’t happen.
“I remember when I moved to L.A. I was 23 years old, and I thought to myself that in five years, I was going to be a success. I just knew that I was going to be successful at 28 because Gabrielle Union did Bring It On at 28, so I was convinced that was going to also happen to me.
But when 28 came and went, I was left to face the fact that my plan didn’t quite work out in the way that I had envisioned. But I always had my mom there to encourage me. She would always read me articles of actors or actresses that it took them more time to be successful.
For some, it would be 8 or 10 years before they became a success, so I was thankful that she was always providing me with those reminders. That’s when the dream changed for me. It was then that I told myself, “You know, maybe this dream isn’t going to be as immediate as I would like, but I know it’s going to come.”
