Naturi Naughton's ESSENCE Magazine Maternity Shoot
Naturi Naughton recently posed for a maternity shoot that was dubbed an "ode to black culture." The "Power" star who's expecting her first child with her longtime love Ben recently shared Afrocentric photos with ESSENCE as she prepares to give birth to her baby girl. The actress who feels "really happy" about her pregnancy told the mag all about the photo shoot and dished on values she plans to instill in her child.On the photo shoot:
"It’s kind of like our first family photo shoot. I felt gorgeous and he was looking all good, and we just made the best of something that I didn’t even know if it would fit into the schedule. The photographer [Joey Rosado] was so wonderful and he made me feel beautiful, but I feel beautiful every day with my man. He tells me everyday, and he talks to my stomach and we do a little thing where we just have a moment where we’re really appreciative of every blessing. I think the photo shoot captured that love and the love inside of me."
On whether or not she feels pressure to get married:
On her Afrocentric maternity shoot theme:"I don’t feel crazy pressure anymore. Naturally, the way I grew up and the way I was raised...I didn’t anticipate being pregnant at this time. Of course I wanted to be a mom and have children, but the reality is God’s plan is not always in alignment with my plan. I wanted to do it my way, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I still think I can still have that dream, and I want to be married — and I will — I think we’re just taking it step-by-step and not worrying about what other people’s judgments or thoughts are because at the end of the day, they’re not living for me, or for us."

Ben wore a shirt from Ghana and my theme was “It takes a village to raise a child” for my baby shower. We just always try to incorporate African proverbs or Kente cloth or using different images to celebrate this beautiful Black girl that’s coming into the world. I think in society we get so caught up trying to assimilate and be like other people, but in reality what we feel is that we just want to celebrate who we are."
"Everything that my parents imparted to me. When I was coming up we didn’t have the movement of Black Girl Magic or Black Girls Rock, but my parents made it their business to make sure I saw positive images of myself and celebrated images of Black women. I want to implement those same things but thank goodness today there’s a movement that celebrates all of our hues, our shades, our beauty, our lips, our noses--there’s a celebration surrounding Black women. I grew up with insecurities about those things because people made fun of my complexion or made fun of how big my lips were when I was a kid. Even when I was a professional singer, I went through things in 3LW that really weighed on my self-esteem. I’m just sick of it. Thank God, now we have a time where we can make sure these girls know how beautiful they are, how special they are, and how worthy they are."Congratulations Naturi! Race Matters: White NYPD Cop Faces Retaliation Because He Refused To Bully Black Officer

White NYPD Cop Says He’s Punished For Not Bullying Black Officer
A NYDailyNews story is detailing the retaliation that a white NYPD officer has been dealing with as a result of his refusal to bully a Black officer, Dana Harge.
Sgt.Valentin Khazin has filed a federal lawsuit against his department claiming that he’s being punished by having his overtime pay stripped, but also being saddled with extra work and holiday work that keeps him from spending time with his family.
Harge was doing his job, said Khazin, who is white. And when the sergeant brought it up that he felt superiors had it out for Harge because of his discrimination complaints, Khazin said he “signed my own death warrant.”
This past Father’s Day, the 32-year-old father of a 1- and 1-year-old, said he was kept on duty almost 24 hours because there allegedly weren’t others to help out.
In addition to the racial retaliation, Khazin says that this superiors ordered him to give another Black officer a low performance grade because she too had filed a discrimination complaint against another officer.
Sounds like par for the course for the shady azz NYPD. They might as well be the KKK with blue hoods.

Malika Haqq Says She And Ronnie Are Not ‘Friends’
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro decided to open up on his short-lived swirl with Khloe Kardashian’s sidekick Malika Haqq yesterday…but according to Malika, he got it a little twisted.
Ronnie says he and Malika didn’t quite work out, but they’re still great friends and better off that way.
Well, apparently he means a different Malika, because she says that she isn’t exactly Ronnie’s “friend.” They’re cordial and all…but a fling is just that, and that’s all folks. As she let loose to Too Fab at the Famously Single Season 2 premiere:
“I haven’t seen Ronnie since we broke up. We are not friends, but we are friendly. I’ll say that.
I did speak to him two days ago via text message and it was all love, but it’s not like we go to dinner once a month. I wish him nothing but the best and he wishes the same for me, but it was just a relationship that didn’t work out. We didn’t know each other before the show so I don’t really think we are missing out by not having each other in our lives.”
We guess Ronnie was using that “friends” term loosely. Honestly, they weren’t a “thing” long enough to fight for a friendship…plus, they didn’t very much of a splash in the reality/entertainment circle (which we’re guessing they had to be hoping for, deep down).
So, no loss on Malika’s end, we guess. Besides, tf you ever watched Ronnie’s dysfunctional relationship with Sammi “Sweetheart” on Jersey Shore unfold…this guy has a demonstrated track record of having a hard time letting go…

According to Safaree, that’s exactly what happened on Friday evening. Fans caught the moment just following Nicki’s first ex apparently getting roughed up by her second and his band of head-busters:
Even thought the two had a little war of words years ago and Safaree claimed that Meek was the reason he and Nicki called it quits…Meek has moved on to random latin IG models, so there really doesn’t seem to be much reason for a fight.

Remy Ma Is Starting A Fund For Women Who Can’t Conceive

In a recent interview with Essence, Remy Ma announced that she’ll be creating a fund for women who are unable to physically conceive children. It’s no secret that the New York raptress experienced a miscarriage and has since used her story to inspire other women who may be going through the same thing.
In the interview, Remy explains that it was too late to save her child once doctors discovered that the baby had been growing in her fallopian tubes, instead of her uterus. However, with x amount of dollars, she would be able to conceive once again. Even though she could afford the procedure, Remy felt bad for all of the women who could not afford to pay for alternative conception methods. She also noted how health insurance covers abortions, but not various conception options.
Kudos to Remy for doing the research, speaking up and making a difference!

A local Atlanta news station is receiving high praises for a recent newscast that incorporated lyrics and song titles from Mobb Deep’s catalog in honor of the late wordsmith, Prodigy. Channel 2’s Fred Blankenship and Mark Arum effortlessly exchanged traffic updates that were “Mobb Deep with delays” and “Shook Ones on I-75”. Their transitions were quite impressive.
Online, celebrities expressed their condolences through heartfelt tweets.
“Terrible terrible news damn #prodigy no words. Im live on shade 45 sirius xm right now tune in we gonna talk all things P,” wrote Talib Kweli.
It’s beautiful to see all of the love and support from many different people.

Lil Wop Is Turning Heads And Raising Questions
South side, Chicago native, Lil Wop 17, is gaining traction for his latest single, “Bombay”, that hit WorldStarHipHop two weeks ago. The video already has nearly a million views, but what has truly captivated everyone’s attention is his abstract style and somewhat familiar name. When asked to name his musical heroes, Lil Wop immediately mentioned Big Guwop aka Gucci Mane.
“I was born on 10/17 so that’s why I got the ice cream on my face,” Wop explained. But even though there’s the similarity in names, Wop doesn’t imitate Big Gucci’s flow or confine his music to just rap.
“Can’t describe my sound. I like everything… But head banging is the most fun to make.” Who would’ve thought that a young man from Englewood, Chicago would embrace the rockstar lifestyle? Wop added that his music is made based on his current mood, so that makes it especially difficult to box his music into existing genres.
“Be different. Expand. And always follow your first mind,” Wop encourages. And who can argue with that?

Wedding Planner Files Suit To Block Beyoncé From Trademarking Blue Ivy’s Name
ET is reporting that Blue Ivy’s name is in a trademark lawsuit with wedding planner, Veronica Morales. In 2012, Morales filed suit to block Beyoncé from obtaining the trademark because her company’s name is also “Blue Ivy”. Morales claims that Beyonce is only trademarking the name so that “no one else could”, and she’s not launching products like she claims.
Morales needs to stop being a hater and let the Carter’s have the rights to Blue’s name. Blue Ivy may want to launch her own products or businesses when she gets older. And we all know the team with the most money wins. Morales should just give it up. You can always find another business name. Right or wrong?
On a more positive note, congratulations to the Carter’s on their new additions. But don’t believe the rumors! You know Beyoncé is probably going to have a royal naming ceremony, and that’s when we’ll find out the real names of the twins.

Mattel Drops New Line of Hipster Ken Dolls To Reverse Bad Sales

After nearly 60 years of exclusion, Mattel has finally decided to roll out dolls that are slightly more accurate depictions of the diversity human beings possess. According to NPR, this week, Mattel announced “15 new Ken dolls with three different body types, seven skin tones and nine hairstyles.” These new Ken dolls scream #AllLivesMatter with their man-buns, “fierce stares” and fleeky eyebrows.
Playing devil’s advocate… It’s possible the new dolls are all about money and not diversity. Senior vice president and general manger, Lisa McKnight, claims Mattel is “redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation.” However, it’s very convenient that Mattel decided to shake things up when profits fell 13% in the first quarter of this year.
