Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church has died. The Pastor who made headlines in 2016 for his gaunt appearance has passed away, according to church parishioners.
Long previously said he was on a diet before revealing that he’s been recovering from a health challenge. Church officials say that challenge was an “aggressive form” of cancer.
He was 63-years-old.

This has gotten out of control… If you saw the film “Selma” you probably will remember watching a young John Lewis on the screen, living out his legacy as a Civil Rights leader who walked beside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lewis, as pointed out by Goldie Taylor of The Daily Beast, “was president of the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee (SNCC) and is the youngest and only living member of “The Big Six.”
Lewis was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, young people who risked their lives to challenge racial segregation in the South. He was arrested 45 times, beaten and bloodied in the name of human rights.
Lewis became a congressman who represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional District… But Friday he told Meet the Press” he will miss his first Presidential inauguration in 30 years in Congress because he doesn’t feel that Donald Trump is a legitimate President.
Of course Lewis’ comments didn’t sit well with Trump who struck out (where else?) on Twitter.
Hours later Trump added to his rant:
If we thought he was an idiot before our opinion is now even lower. Lewis is a national hero who was beaten bloody for our freedoms. He sacrificed a lot in the name of progress, facing arrest some 45 times.
Don’t be misled by Trump’s tweets. While crime and poverty rates are above the national average, the area is neither “crime infested” nor falling apart. It’s actually thriving — home to the upscale Buckhead neighborhood, several Fortune 500 companies — including Coca-Cola and Delta Airlines — as well as Emory University, Georgia Tech, Spelman, Morehouse and Atlanta’s airport.
And as for Trump’s assertion that Lewis is all talk and no action is PURE HOGWASH…

In 1994, when the country was caught up in hysteria and pushed a crime bill that later destroyed whole communities, John Lewis was one of only eleven black members of the House to stand against it.
One of the “results” of Lewis’ activism was the Fair Housing Act, the very legislation under which the Justice Department sued Donald Trump and his father.

There has been a huge wave of outrage on social media over Trump’s latest attack but we thought the tweet above said it all.
Lewis has fought for what he believes is right his entire career, why should he be expected to stop because Trump was elected.
In the meantime the NY Daily News is reporting that Trump has canceled an MLK day visit to Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture over scheduling issues.
You may recall President Obama urged Trump to visit the museum after he said during the presidential campaign that there has “never been a worse time to be a black person” in America…
Clearly Trump needs to brush up on his American history.

18-Year-Old Kamiyah Mobley Reunited With Biological Parents After Being Kidnapped After Birth!
South Carolina Girl Confirmed As Baby Kidnapped From Florida Hospital 18 Years Ago
This is quite a crazy story… 51-year-old Gloria Williams of Walterboro, South Carolina has been arrested and charged for kidnapping Kamiyah Mobley 18 years ago from a Florida hospital. The abduction sparked a nationwide manhunt, with the case even being featured on “America’s Most Wanted.” Still, the kidnapping went unsolved for over a decade, until a breakthrough came from a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children lead authorities to South Carolina, where Mobley, who has been living as Alexis Manigo, was found and DNA testing confirmed she was the missing Kamiyah.
Kamiyah’s biological parents traveled from Florida to meet her this weekend:

Kamiyah was raised by Williams as her own daughter and even after learning her birth story she’s continued to support the only mother she’s ever known, even defending her in a recent court hearing saying “my mom’s no felon”.
Williams is accused of posing as a nurse and stealing the baby girl, wrapped in a pink and blue blanket in 1998. She reportedly suffered a miscarriage a week before the crime. In addition to raising Kamiyah Mobley as her own, Williams also has two younger biological children. She faces life in prison if convicted.

Will You Be Watching? Charlie Murphy Joins The Cast Of ‘Power’
Charlie Murphy Featured On New Season Of “Power”
Charlie Murphy is getting an acting stint on a popular show.
The comedian is joining the cast of “Power” as a correctional officer for season 4. Murphy’s character will interact closely with Ghost (Omari Hardwick) who’s currently behind bars.
EW has learned exclusively that Charlie Murphy, best known for his work in Meet the Blacks, Chappelle’s Show, and oh, being related to Eddie Murphy, will join the fourth season of Power on Starz.
Murphy will play Marshal Williams opposite James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a wealthy nightclub owner-cum-drug lord who will start season 4 behind bars. Power, which is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Courtney A. Kemp (The Good Wife) returns this summer on the heels of Ghost’s highly publicized arrest for the murder of FBI Agent Greg Knox — a crime he did not commit.
His fight for redemption brings him face-to-face with the Feds, the media, new allies, and old foes.

Tears For The Clowns: After 146 Years, It’s A Wrap For Ringling Bros. Circus!
Circus Owners Announce Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus To Close In May
After 146 years, “The Greatest Show on Earth” will come to a close this May. The owners of The owner of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus told The Associated Press the decision to close was due to a number of factors, including dwindling attendance, operating costs and ongoing issues with animal rights groups.
“There isn’t any one thing,” said Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment. “This has been a very difficult decision for me and for the entire family.”
The company broke the news to circus employees Saturday night after shows in Orlando and Miami.
Ringling Bros. has two touring circuses this season and will perform 30 shows between now and May. Major stops include Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston and Brooklyn. The final shows will be in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 7 and in Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau County Coliseum on May 21.
The circus, with its exotic animals, flashy costumes and death-defying acrobats, has been a staple of entertainment in the United States since the mid-1800s. Phineas Taylor Barnum made a traveling spectacle of animals and human oddities popular, while the five Ringling brothers performed juggling acts and skits from their home base in Wisconsin. Eventually, they merged and the modern circus was born. The sprawling troupes traveled around America by train, wowing audiences with the sheer scale of entertainment and exotic animals.
“The competitor in many ways is time,” said Feld, adding that transporting the show by rail and other circus quirks — such as providing a traveling school for performers’ children— are throwbacks to another era. “It’s a different model that we can’t see how it works in today’s world to justify and maintain an affordable ticket price. So you’ve got all these things working against it.”
Hard times for real… This is sad for so many reasons, but the silver lining is that the animals can look forward to retirement.
“After 36 years of PETA protests, which have awoken the world to the plight of animals in captivity, PETA heralds the end of what has been the saddest show on earth for wild animals, and asks all other animal circuses to follow suit, as this is a sign of changing times,” Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wrote in a statement.
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, acknowledged the move was “bittersweet” for the Felds but said: “I applaud their decision to move away from an institution grounded on inherently inhumane wild animal acts.”
The Felds say their existing animals — lions, tigers, camels, donkeys, alpacas, kangaroos and llamas — will go to suitable homes. Juliette Feld says the company will continue operating the Center for Elephant Conservation.

Young Men Who Sued Bishop Eddie Long For Sexual Misconduct Speak Out
We reported yesterday that Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church had passed away. The Pastor who made headlines last year for his scarily skinny appearance died, according to church parishioners.
Four young men who accused Bishop Eddie Long of sexual coercion more than 5 years ago are now speaking out about the controversial religious leader’s death reports AJC.
We’ve been hearing from people from all walks of life — the media, celebrities, gospel singers — wanting to hear what we think,” said Spencer LeGrande, one of four former New Birth Missionary Baptist Church members who filed suit against Long in 2010. A fifth accuser, Centino Kemp, came forward as the lawsuit entered a mediation process. An undisclosed financial settlement was reached soon after.
LeGrande, has since moved to Charlotte where he is a successful business owner. Maurice Robinson and Anthony Flagg, two other accusers, told The AJC Sunday that they will eventually release an official statement in their new book.
“As much as we’d like to make a statement about the passing of Bishop Eddie Long, we’ve all decided to remain silent, for now,” Long’s accusers said in a joint response given exclusively to The AJC. They said Jamal Parris, the fourth former New Birth member to sue Long, also consented to the statement.
“We’re all brothers in this,” LeGrande said.
Their statement concluded, “Our perspectives will be addressed in our book, Foursaken, which we hope to release soon.”
Church parishioners have also come out to claim Bishop Eddie Long died of cancer but other religious figures are saying otherwise. Even Kim Burrell who clearly doesn’t know when or how to STFU…

Spelman Alums’ Grassroots Effort Sparks “Thanks Obama” Event On Last Day Of His Presidency
“Thanks Obama” Will Celebrate POTUS’s Legacy With Art, Performances & Standing Ovation
Ordinary citizens are rallying to give America’s first black president a rousing sendoff.
A “Thanks Obama” celebration will be held Jan. 19 – the last official day in office for the 44th President – at the SW Arts Club in Washington, DC, and will feature an Obama-themed art installation, performances, guest speakers, and a standing ovation for the outgoing president.
The event is the brainchild of Spelman College alums Bejidé Davis and Amanda Washington Lockett, who started the idea by putting out a call on Facebook. To date, more than 170,000 people have voiced their support, and more than 45,000 people said they planned to attend.
“He completely turned around the country with style and grace, and I think we should be thankful for that,” Lockett said. “He’s a man who represents makes impossible possible. That symbolism for our children and adults is amazing.”
The event will also feature a “clap out” where participants will give President Obama a rousing round of applause for the work he did on behalf of America and the world during his tenure in the White House.
“It’s a moment of appreciating,” Davis said. “Everyone will be just celebrating, clapping – just showing appreciation for him.”
“People are going to really miss him,” Lockett added. “They’re going to miss his charisma. He ran on a platform of hope and change and I think he delivered that.”
The women said the event would be the first time in recent memory and possibly ever that regular citizens had ever publicly lauded an outgoing president at a public event. Lockett said that the celebration was also about honoring his legacy, which she said some have already tried to taint.
“I don’t care of people don’t remember our names,” she said, “I want people to know that people did this for him. I think that there may be attempts to damage his legacy, and if we write the history ourselves, people can’t take that away from us.”
