Black TV Makes History In The UK With Premiere Of British Comedy ‘Venus Vs Mars’
YouTube Web Series Makes History As First Full Black Cast UK Television Comedy
What started as a YouTube web series back in 2012 has now evolved into a history making comedy in the UK.
‘Venus Vs Mars‘ debuted April 9th as the first all black cast show on the hit TV network Sky Living. Set in London, the warm and witty comedy drama follows dynamic single girl Venus in her catastrophically hilarious quest to find true love.
The 10-part comedy drama stems from critically acclaimed playwright Baby Isako (Love is a Losing Game, Bag Ladies). The show was also directed and produced by black production team called Purple Geko. Check out the preview below.
The show details Venus’ (played by Letitia Hector) run-ins with the ex, old flames, new crushes and double dates and comes on immediately after Scandal. This is something that has never been done on UK television!

R.I.P. Johnny Kemp, Famous For 80’s Jam “Just Got Paid” Dies…On A Friday Night
Johnny Kemp Dies At Age 55
Sad news. Singer Johnny Kemp, best known for his 1988 party classic “Just Got Paid.” passed away under mysterious circumstances on Friday evening. He was found face-down in the ocean, though it remains unclear exactly what happened. Via TMZ:
Johnny Kemp — the guy who sang the 80s party anthem “Just Got Paid” … died Thursday at the age of 55.
Originally from the Bahamas, Kemp died while vacationing in Jamaica. He was reportedly found floating on a beach in Montego Bay. It’s unclear at this point what caused his death.
Kemp released his biggest hit in 1988 — it reached #10 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the dance charts. It also got a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song.
R.I.P. Johnny. It’s Friday night …

Man Babysits Kidnapping Victim
A Washington man is being lauded as a hero after he alerted authorities when he realized the 2-year-old he was babysitting was actually a kidnapping victim.
Another strange kidnapping story is in the news, but the good part is that the 2-year-old at the center of it is safe and sound. Beyond that, things get weird—a man babysitting the boy called 911 to report his whereabouts after seeing an Amber Alert. The key developments:
The kidnapping: On Tuesday, police say that Alyssa Chang, 46, and Vien Nguyen, 65, kidnapped toddler Ronnie Tran and his mother from their home in Des Moines, Wash. Chang is the girlfriend of the boy’s father, and Nguyen is his paternal grandmother, reports ABC News.
The babysitter: After the boy’s mother was tasered and tied up in a garage (she would eventually escape on her own, the Seattle Times reports), police say Chang brought the boy to her brother’s home in Renton and innocently asked him to babysit.
The brother, John Truong, tells KOMO-TV that he didn’t know anything was amiss until the next morning when he saw the Amber Alert.
The surprise: “I’m eating my breakfast, I’m checking my Facebook, all of a sudden I see this Amber Alert for this child,” he says. “And it looks like this child in my bed, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God! What’s going on?'” He called police, who soon tracked down his sister and Nguyen. Both face felony charges.
The bottom line: “There’s a lot of family dynamics involved,” says a police official. “As far as why, we can only speculate.”

Suge Knight Victim Takes Responsibility For Accident In New Audio
He already stated that he “won’t send this man to prison” but Suge Knight’s hit and run victim Cle “Bone” Sloan is taking it to the next level — putting the full responsibility for the death of Terry Carter on himself in a newly released audio clip. The way he stated things, Suge Knight ran Terry down with his truck trying to escape an attack he initiated, so technically the death was his fault. Take a listen:

Suge Knight has got a powerful weapon … not a gun, and not a car. It’s the guy he ran over who lived and told cops he was responsible for the other victim’s death.
Cle Bone Sloan told LAPD officers the same day he was mowed down by Suge’s truck, “I was in a rage. I f***ed up. I get that ’cause a guy is dead behind this s**t.”
TMZ first posted the video of the accident, and you see Bone attack Suge almost the second he enters the Tam’s parking lot in Compton.
Suge claims it was all a set up and Bone as well as others were trying to do him in, and he gunned it to save his life. Suge ran over bone, critically injuring him. Another victim, Terry Carter, died.
Suge’s attorneys are going to use the audio to make the argument … how can a jury convict Suge if someone else confessed?
That’s a MAJOR help for Suge’s defense team. Do you think he’ll walk away from this one a free man??

Oklahoma introduced a law allowing it to use nitrogen gas to kill death row prisoners if lethal injections aren’t available.
Governor Mary Fallin signed into law a bill approving nitrogen as an alternative method of death, giving Oklahoma four different ways to enact its death penalty.
The method, which involves pumping a chamber full of nitrogen and leaving a prisoner’s body to die from lack of oxygen, has been touted as ‘foolproof’ by supporters, in the wake of the embarrassingly botched lethal injections.
Executions in the state are currently on hold while the Supreme Court ponders whether the three-drug mix now favored by Oklahoma is constitutional.
The pause follows an infamous execution last ear, which saw officials struggle to administer a the poison to an inmate, who writhed on the gurney in pain for some 43 minutes before finally dying.
Nitrogen – which has never been used to execute humans before – is now the state’s second choice.
Kinda hard to stay that something is “foolproof” when it’s never been used to execute humans before.

The man who recorded the fatal shooting of Walter Scott is now requesting money for his services.
The video that captured Officer Michael Slager shooting Scott while he was unarmed now carries a $10,000 per media outlet price tag.

The New York Times reports:
The video of a North Charleston police officer shooting an unarmed man in the back will now cost news outlets that want to run it $10,000, according to a publicist representing the man who shot it.
Cease-and-desist letters went out this week to news outlets around the world from Markson Sparks, a publicity and celebrity management company based in Sydney, Australia.
The video, taken April 4, showed a North Charleston police officer, Michael T. Slager, shooting a man who ran from him after a traffic stop. A bystander, Feidin Santana, took the video and then turned it over to the family of the man who was killed, Walter L. Scott.
The officer was charged with murder and remains jailed. The video, viewed more than one million times on YouTube alone, quickly came to represent the excessive use of force by the police.
The announcement about the fee seemed to come as a surprise to Mr. Santana.
He later recalled that his lawyer mentioned something about charging for it, but said he did not understand.
The lawyer, Todd Rutherford, said it was only fair for Mr. Santana to start getting paid for something that news outlets benefited from.
“The search for justice is served by turning the video over to law enforcement,” Mr. Rutherford said. The news media, he said, appeared to be in the “search for revenue.”
The Times has used the video with the family’s permission and not received a cease and desist letter.
Max Markson, chief executive of Markson Sparks, said by phone from Australia: “I think that the people who might be put off by this are the media outlets that had it for free. Now they will have to pay.”
He said the fee amount would be negotiable, although another person familiar with the negotiations who was not authorized to speak publicly said news media outlets were being charged a one-time fee of $10,000.
A lawyer for Mr. Scott’s family said the relatives remain grateful to Mr. Santana and have no problem with him receiving a financial benefit.
“Without the video, we would not be where we are right now,” said Justin Bamberg, one of the family’s lawyers.
Seriously???? Profiting off a video of a murder might be beyond sleazy…

Prisoner Carves 666 Into His Head…Backwards
Nebraska Inmate Makes Mistake While Self-Mutilating His Face
An Omaha inmate carved the number 666 into his forehead, using a mirror as his guide…but with a poor grasp of how reflections work, he ended up making a series of inverted 9’s instead. But it seems it may have been his latest stunt in a bid to avoid the death penalty for his crimes. Via Omaha.com:
Jenkins told a Douglas County judge during a recent telephone hearing that he “self-mutilated” by trying to carve “666” into his forehead.
The problem? Jenkins was looking in a mirror. So he carved the 6s backward — making them look more like upside-down 9s, according to court officials.
Jenkins reportedly told Douglas County District Judge Peter Bataillon that he carved the 666 — known in the biblical book of Revelation as the number of the Beast — because he is not receiving treatment for his purported mental illness. He asked the judge to order the Nebraska State Patrol to investigate. Bataillon declined.
It is not clear yet whether Jenkins will use the latest self-mutilation to try to get himself again declared incompetent before he can face a death-penalty hearing.
Jenkins mutilated himself last year, and Bataillon delayed his death-penalty hearing. It took a year before the judge declared him competent to stand trial. Jenkins’ disclosure of a Manson-style mark — the California killer has a swastika between his eyes — was just the latest antic in a case that has dragged on for 20 months.
Somehow we feel like living out your days in maximum security prison with a heavily mutilated face isn’t MUCH better than going ahead and facing the death penalty…
