Bobbi Kristina Not Taken Off Life Support, Family Still Praying

The Houston and Brown families are keeping hope alive. Despite previous reports that the family has gathered to say farewell to a mostly brain-dead Bobbi Kristina, and swirling rumors that she has been taken off life support, family reps, including Bobby himself, are speaking out to say that none of them have given up on Bobbi yet and they remain gathered in prayer. Contrary to reports, Bobbi Kristina Brown has not been taken off life support, Access Hollywood has learned.

While it has been widely reported that she is on a ventilator, and remains in a coma, there was never any official confirmation that Bobbi is — or has been — on life support since being hospitalized last week.

Meanwhile, another source told Access that reports that the Houston and Brown families are gathering to say goodbye to Bobbi is “a flat out lie.

On Thursday, Access Hollywood’s Stephanie Bauer exclusively spoke to Bobby in Atlanta.

“How is your daughter doing?” Bauer asked the singer.

“She’s good,” he said of his 21-year-old daughter, who he had with the late Whitney Houston.

“We’re praying,” Bobby added.

I think we can all agree that is the family’s best course of action with the situation looking as dire as it is. So sad.

Adrienne Bailon Engaged To Lenny Santiago

Study Shows Attraction To Parents’ Features

Turns out we all have a specific type whether we realize it or not — whatever our parents look like. Via BusinessInsider:

If your girlfriend looks a touch like your mom — or your husband resembles your dad — you’re not alone.

According to the research of University of St. Andrews psychologist David Perrett, we’re attracted to the features that our parents had when we were born.

He proved it out in a series of studies. In a 2002 paper, Perrett and his colleagues asked experiment participants to rate the attractiveness of faces of different ages.

“We found that women born to ‘old’ parents (over 30) were less impressed by youth, and more attracted to age cues in male faces than women with ‘young’ parents (under 30),” the authors wrote. “For men, preferences for female faces were influenced by their mother’s age and not their father’s age, but only for long-term relationships.”

It sounds disgusting, but when they break down the reason, it has a lot less to do with secretly wanting to smash your mama and a lot more with trust and comfort:

His two explanations for the reason people are attracted to partners that kind of look like their parents:

• Imprinting: As infants, our parents are the first humans we trust. They have certain hair and facial features, so we unconsciously take people with that same profile to be more trustworthy — and thus mateworthy — than others.

• Mere exposure effect: The more we’re around a person, the more we like them. It’s part of the reason that folks develop crushes in their schools, apartment buildings, and offices — you’re around those people all the time, so you prefer them to others.

Condom Prices Up To $750 In Venezuela Due To Shortage

Venezuela is running out of condoms.

The country is broke. Its economy is on track to shrink 7% in 2015 alone, in large part because oil prices are so low. Now its economic crisis is leading to a health crisis.

A lack of contraceptives doesn’t keep people from having sex, it just keeps them from having safe sex.

Bloomberg reports that the country started running out of condoms and other kinds of contraceptives in December. “The condom shortage, caused by a scarcity of dollars among importers, has prices on a website used to find scarce goods soaring and risks aggravating one of South America’s highest HIV infection and teenage pregnancy rates.”

A 36-pack of Trojan condoms is going for 4,760 bolivars (about $750) on Mercado Libre, a site where Venezuelan citizens bid for scarce goods. A three-pack is 399 bolivars (about $62).

Those with American dollars hold a huge advantage, according to Bloomberg. The same 36-pack is only $25 on the dollar-based black market.

Venezuela has one of the highest rates for both STDs and teenage pregnancies in South America, and a significant condom shortage will set the country back further.

It is incredibly bad for the country’s women. From Bloomberg:

In Venezuela, with abortion illegal, the disappearance of contraceptives will raise the number of female deaths by driving more pregnant women to clandestine clinics, said Carlos Cabrera, vice president of the local branch of London-based International Planned Parenthood Federation. A lack of condoms will also leave a long-lasting economic impact by taking girls and young women away from schools and the work force, he said.

Unarmed Black Carpenter Shot 8 Times By Police Awarded $2.5 Million In Settlement

The state of California agreed Tuesday to pay $2.5 million to settle an excessive-force lawsuit filed by an African-American carpenter who was shot at least eight times by a white CHP rookie during a traffic stop.

The state offered the settlement on the first day of trial in federal court, after the officer who shot James Henry Ligon Jr. in 2012 testified that Ligon stepped out of his car and charged directly at him, shouting threats. The problem with CHP officer Joe Lafauci’s account was it did not match the physical evidence in the case, said Ligon’s lawyers, Jaime Leanos and Nelson McElmurry. Ligon was shot four times in the back, suggesting he was not coming at the officer.

“Officer Lafauci immediately went for his gun, unlike his more experienced partner, who got out of the patrol car without even taking out his gun,” just his Taser, McElmurry said.

Lafauci had only 14 months on the job when he emptied his service pistol of 12 rounds, at least eight of which hit Ligon.

Ligon, now 37, said he had stepped out of his car after leading the CHP on a high-speed chase for three miles because he couldn’t hear what the officers were yelling and to show them he was unarmed.

Details surrounding what led to the high speed chase reveal that Mr. Ligon was suspected of drunk driving at the time of the incident.

According to Sunnyvale police, which investigated Ligon’s shooting, Lafauci and fellow CHP officer Cory Walczak tried to stop Ligon in a gold Toyota Corolla about 1:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Ellis Street, suspecting he was driving drunk. It was later determined he had an estimated blood-alcohol level of .25-.32, at least three times above the legal limit of .08. He was on probation at the time for possession of mushrooms for sale.

Ligon did not pull over and instead drove onto city streets in Sunnyvale for about three miles to the 200 block of Alturas Avenue, near where his mother lived. He was driving her car and did not want it to be impounded, Leanos said. Ligon pleaded no contest to felony evading and misdemeanor DUI charges, after prosecutors dropped a felony resisting arrest charge.

This case serves as a great example for how these types of incidents SHOULD be handled. No one is advocating that people breaking the law should get off scott-free (drunk driving and evading police is certainly a punishable offense) however, police officers shooting to kill should NEVER be the first course of action without consequence when a suspect makes it clear that he is unarmed.

Nick Gordon Targeted In Bobbi Kristina Foul Play Investigation

While the rest of Bobbi Kristina’s family remains by her side hoping and praying for a miracle…cops are starting to question the circumstances that led to her being discovered face down and unresponsive in the bathtub one week ago.

There is an active criminal investigation underway in Georgia in the Bobbi Kristina case … it centers on possible foul play and the target is her boyfriend … TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us … Bobbi Kristina had certain injuries that have piqued their interest. We do not know the nature of the injuries. Multiple sources tell TMZ there is a history of violence between Bobbi Kristina and boyfriend Nick Gordon.

We’re told police are looking into a possible altercation more than an hour before Bobbi Kristina was found submerged in a bathtub.

We’re told Max Lomas — the friend who discovered Bobbi Kristina in the tub — arrived at around 9 AM last Saturday. He says he hung out with Nick but did not see Bobbi Kristina. He was told she was in the bedroom. Nick wandered away and Max says he didn’t pay attention to his whereabouts.

The cable guy showed sometime after 10 AM and Max says he let him in — Nick was nowhere to be seen. The cable guy said he needed access to the bedroom so Max let him in and discovered Bobbi Kristina in the tub. He screamed for Nick, who ran in and administered CPR.

We’re told Max claims Nick allegedly cleaned up the home and removed blood stains.

Cops interviewed both Max and Nick and they want to debrief Max again, but our law enforcement sources say Max’s lawyer insisted on immunity before he spoke again. We’re told as of Friday morning Max hadn’t gotten immunity or talked to cops.

Our sources say Nick Gordon has also lawyered up. We could not reach Nick for comment.

Wow…blood? And Nick cleaned it up? This is starting to sound VERY suspicious. Our thought and prayers remain with Bobbi Kristina’s family during this time…but we’re definitely keeping track of these new developments.

Retired Cop Says White Officers See Black People As Something To Practice On

As police officers across the country continue to show little to no regard for black lives, one retired St. Louis police officer sat down with the Atlanta Blackstar to shed some light on the ugly truth behind the badge for many of his white former-peers.

It was frustration with the racism he felt from the police officers who frequently pulled him over in his late-model vehicle that compelled Glenn Rogers to become a police officer in the St. Louis area 25 years ago. And it is still racism in the police force that is pushing Rogers to speak out now in anger and frustration, seven years after his retirement.

Rogers, 64, is a former police officer and undercover detective for several municipalities in St. Louis County and was a police chief for a short time in southwestern Illinois and a police chaplain in three different departments. He has watched the events transpiring in Ferguson with the unique perspective of someone who understands what it’s like on both sides of the badge.

From the first days after he joined the police force of a town in St. Louis County in 1990—a place that, like Ferguson, had an overwhelmingly white police department in a majority Black town—Rogers was stunned by the obvious contempt his white colleagues had for the Black citizens they were paid to serve and protect.

“As I began to see how Black people got talked to, treated, grabbed, arrested, how they got dealt with when being incarcerated, to me it looked like something off a slave boat when you actually saw the booking process and the handcuffing process,” Rogers, 64, told Atlanta Blackstar in an exclusive interview. “It was just a long lineup of Black people. I don’t think in the first year I saw more than one or two white people arrested. And those were usually for failure to appear for tickets.”

Rogers also went on to describe the mentality that he observed first-hand for of many of his white counterparts during his time as an officer.

Over the next few years, Rogers said he could not believe how much heartlessness and hostility white officers brought into encounters with Black people. Rogers calls this the “human element”—the part of the job where officers get to use their discretion in deciding how to respond to any given situation.

These are the situations where Black people often met danger.

“The human element has got to be put in check,” said Rogers, who has served as a police advisor to six different mayors in the St. Louis area. “There is an area of discretion involved in every job and the same with law enforcement. The human element has to decipher and make a decision when it’s not clearcut by law or by what is apparent before you. When they say cops have split seconds to make decisions, it is not a lie. The main goal of a police officer—as I told the new officers I trained—is to go home at night. You can’t trust anybody on the street because you don’t know what they’re going to do. But with that, you also have an obligation to be humane, to only use what is necessary to accomplish your job and go home at night. I found that many times white officers do things knowing that Black people don’t stick together, knowing you can always do something to a Black person and 95 percent of the time you will come out unscathed and it will go away and you can continue as usual.”

Former officer Rogers later made a disturbing revelation about many white officers viewing black people as good to “practice on” to perfect their skillset because blacks often don’t stick together and don’t know the law.

Rogers said the white officers knew Black people weren’t likely to know how the system worked, or to understand their rights, so it was easy to make them run afoul of the law.

“They saw Black people in my opinion as the people you could practice on and get your skills straight,” he said. “They were the people who didn’t know how to deal with the system, so therefore they would make all the mistakes that needed to be made for officers to do to them the things they do to people who make those mistakes. This is why I saw it is intentional that the public is never taught the real mechanics of the law.

If you do so, you will eliminate hundreds of thousands if not millions of incidents where they encounter the police or are candidates for arrest.

James Robertson Gifted A New Car By Local Detroit Dealership

A Detroit factory worker who has walked more than 20 miles (32 km) during his daily commute to work for a decade was surprised on Friday with a brand new car, donated by a suburban car dealership.

The unexpected gift is the latest in an outpouring of donations from supporters across the globe who, touched by James Robertson’s plight, have raised more than $320,000 in an online campaign to help him buy a car.

Robertson had told the Detroit Free Press that his car broke down a decade ago and, making $10.55 an hour, he has been unable to save for a new one.

‘I don’t like it, I love it,’ said Robertson, 56, who appeared baffled as he sat behind the wheel of his 2015 red Ford Taurus. ‘If only my parents could see me now.’

Robertson thought he was going to look at cars to purchase with Evan Leedy and Blake Pollock, who both helped coordinate the gift, worth an estimated $37,000.

Instead Robertson was greeted by reporters and a team of supporters who first learned of his marathon commute this week in a story that ran in the Sunday Detroit Free Press.

Reggie Bush Implicated In Drugging Women By Darren Sharper’s Codefendant

The rape trial of former New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper has taken a strange turn.

A former sheriff’s deputy in Louisiana, who has been charged (along with Sharper) with helping to drug women in order to rape them, told investigators he witnessed former Saints and current Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush drop the party drug ecstasy into women’s drinks at a Las Vegas club a few years ago, according to a published report.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, Brandon Licciardi, the codefendent in the Sharper case, told authorities about seeing Bush doing this when Licciardi was interviewed last year by the Orleans Parish (La.) District Attorney. At the time, Licciardi was being questioned about two incidents in which Sharper allegedly was involved in rapes.

According to the federal indictment, Licciardi is named as a conspirator to Sharper in assisting with the rape. Asked if he had seen other women being drugged, Licciardi spilled on Bush’s involvement.

“OK, um, I was in Vegas about three years ago and um, Reggie Bush put Molly in Champagne. He was handing out ‘Molly’ on the dance floor to girls. Handing it out. Like giving it to them,” Licciardi said.

“And how do you know that?” asked James O’Hern, an investigator for the DA’s Office.

“[Because] I saw it with my own eyes,” Licciardi responded.

Says Reggie’s ubiquitous lawyer:

Bush has not been charged with anything by authorities, and he strongly denied any involvement through his Bush’s California-based attorney, Shawn Holley, to the Detroit Free Press.

“This is outrageous,” Holley said. “I can say to you on the record that Reggie adamantly, vehemently and unequivocally denies all of the statements in that article. We are demanding a retraction from The Advocate and Reggie is considering taking legal action.”

Holley questioned the credibility of the defendent, Licciardi, to the Free Press.

“There is no investigation, there’s never been any complaint made by any person of this happening,” Holley said. “It appears to be something that’s being stated by someone who is a criminal defendant in a serious case and looking for anything he can say to deflect from his own troubles. But there is not a shred of truth to any of this.”

Asked again later in court about Bush’s involvement, Licciardi started to backpedal a bit.

“Reggie, yeah. No, I didn’t see him put it in the drink. He told me. And he said he was handing it to people, in Vegas,” Licciardi said, adding, “He asked me if I wanted some. And I was like, ‘I don’t do that stuff.’ ”

Sounds like this thing is about to get SUPER ugly.

Everyone’s impressed with the stunning SoCal home. Curbed LA calls it “handsome,” and RumorFix said (the multi-sibling singer) has “amazing taste.”

The 3,175-square-foot house sits on a 7,070-square-foot lot in a cul-de-sac that’s on a high point of land and overlooks the Sunset Strip. According to Design & Trend, “The property features impeccable views of the Hollywood Hills and is surrounded by lush landscaping and a zen pool.”

The house has a lovely rustic feel to it, with wood floors throughout, a wood-beam ceiling in the living room, and a wood-plank ceiling in the library. Because the property is covered in trees, it feels very secluded.

Variety‘s eagle eyes point out that the kitchen hasn’t changed much since Jonas bought the property. He “kept the steely blue Shaker-style cabinetry, the marble counter tops, the high-grade stainless steel appliances and—somewhat curiously—a massive, antique-looking postmaster’s desk.”

Many media outlets are speculating that (he) is selling the house because he’s ready to settle down with former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, and that the two are looking for a more family-friendly home.

Nicki Minaj’s Ex Safaree Talks New EP And Their Current Relationship Status

Safaree Samuels is slowly but surely becoming a circulated name on the pop culture scene in light of his very publicized split from YMCMB first lady Nicki Minaj, but he’s now focused on moving forward with his music.

SB recently sat down with XXL Magazine for a quick chat about his upcoming EP, whether or not it will include songs about the break up and even commented on the real status of his current relationship with Nicki amidst all the rumors. Check out a few interview excerpts below.

So aside from “Burner” what else can we expect from your EP?
There’s definitely going to be some personal stuff on there. That’s another thing, too. People are going to really be able to hear where I’m coming from. It’s not just going to be your typical rapper, I’m going to have a couple of things in there that’s going to be personal.

When people hear [my next song], they’re going to be blown away. It’s a really dope song. It’s called “Bruce Wayne.”

What is it about?
It’s about a guy who’s talking to a girl; he’s just telling the girl how he wants to make her feel good, but it’s in a sarcastic, funny way. Also just letting a girl know, “Hey, I like you but don’t get it twisted.” It’s a fun record. It’ll make sense for the spring time.

Can you tell me a little bit about your new music?
I’m Jamaican, so there’s some things in there of the Jamaican culture. There’s a big Jamaican influence. I’m from Brooklyn, I’m from New York, so they’ll be feel good N.Y. music. There’s going to be down South music.

I’m not your typical New York artist. I’m not out here trying to act like I’m a thug who’s going to shoot you and kill you. Because people that are shooting are not free doing music, they’re in jail. I’m not even trying to portray that.

Do you want to touch on Nicki at all?
They’ll hear it in the music coming up.

I get the vibe that you’re trying to distance yourself from the Nicki stuff and focus on the music.
I’m just working on myself. You work on yourself everyday, right?
