Dartmouth College Announces #BlackLivesMatter Courses On Racial Inequality In America

Darmouth College is taking a step in the right direction by planning to offer courses centered around educating students in racial inequality and violence in America.

Dartmouth College will offer its students a spring semester course borne of the events surrounding the fatal shooting last year of an unarmed black man by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

The course, titled, “10 Weeks, 10 Professors: #BlackLivesMatter” is “dedicated to considering race, structural inequality and violence in both a historical and modern context,” The Dartmouth student newspaper reported.

The lessons in the Ivy League school’s pilot course will be divided into 15 sections and involve more than 10 academic departments, including anthropology, history, mathematics, English and women’s studies, according to the paper. About 15 Dartmouth professors are expected to teach the individual sections of the class.

“We hope students will be able to understand that Ferguson is not just an event in 2014, but something that’s tethered in time to a long history and still-emerging ideas about race in the U.S. and how policing works in an age of social media and distributed surveillance,” said English professor Aimee Bahng, according to The Dartmouth paper.

Kudos to Dartmouth College! Hopefully other institutions will soon follow in their footsteps.

Trouble must have a GPS signal on Chris Breezy…

According to TMZ reports:

Chris Brown has cops on high alert these days … and an anonymous tip that the passenger in his car had a gun was enough for L.A.’s finest to spring into action.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … the LAPD got a call from someone saying Chris’ passenger was carrying a gun. Chris was already inside Sayer nightclub in Hollywood, but the cops were able to coral the friend, detain him and search Chris’ Lambo. They found nothing.

Chris was attending TI’s pre-Grammy party when it went down. Cops are well aware trouble sometimes finds him. You’ll recall he was performing at a VMA party at 1OAK last Summer when shots rang out and Suge Knight was hit 6 times. Last month 5 people were shot when Brown was performing in San Jose.

On the bright side, Brown tweeted Friday he’s completed his community service in the Rihanna case.

“Anonymous tip” sounds like cop-speak for “We know Chris Brown is around, let’s f*** with him.”.

A 16-year-old Pennsylvania boy is behind bars after authorities say he killed a fellow teen and then took a snapchat of himself with the body.

Post-Gazette reports:

Maxwell Marion Morton, 16, of Jeannette was charged with murder Friday night in the death of Ryan Mangan, 16, also of Jeannette. Westmoreland County detectives and Jeannette police charged Maxwell with criminal homicide, first-degree murder and illegally possessing a 9 mm handgun. He was arraigned before District Judge Joseph R. DeMarchis of Jeannette, was denied bail and is being held in the county jail. A preliminary hearing is set before before Mr. DeMarchis Feb. 19.

Rebecca Murtland, Ryan’s mother, first contacted police at about 6 p.m. Wednesday saying she had found her son dead, with a gunshot wound in the face.

On Thursday, a woman told police her son had a copy of a Snapchat photo sent from the accused. Jeannette Sgt. Donald Johnston saw the photo, depicting the wounded victim in the chair as found by his mother. It also depicted a young man taking a “selfie” with the victim in the background. The photo had the name “MAXWELL” across the top and the young man was identified by Sgt. Johnston as Maxwell Morton.

The woman also said her son received messages from Maxwell, stating, “Told you I cleaned up the shells” and “Ryan was not the last one.” The investigating officers said the photo depicts the victim as he was found at the crime scene.

After a search warrant was served at Morton’s home, a 9 mm handgun was found in the basement under the steps. Police said after being advised of his rights with his parents present, the young man confessed to using that gun to shoot Ryan Mangan, “leaving the victim dead in his room.”

Bruce Jenner Causes Fatal Car Crash

In the midst of all his “transitioning” drama, Bruce Jenner now has to deal with a major accident it seems he caused yesterday afternoon while driving out in Malibu, California. A woman is dead after the reality star rear-ended her vehicle, pushing her into oncoming traffic.

Via TMZ:

Bruce Jenner was involved in a horrific car accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu at around noon Saturday, one person is dead, and it looks like Bruce caused the accident … TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us … there were 4 vehicles involved in the crash. We’re told there were 8 people involved and all sustained some sort of injury … but one person died at the scene.

Eyewitnesses say Bruce rear ended the white car and that car went into oncoming traffic and was struck by the Hummer.

One law enforcement source said Bruce seems to be ok, but again, we’re told the 7 survivors sustained some injuries, ranging from minor to moderate.

Jenner family sources tell TMZ Bruce was being chased by as many as 5 paparazzi at the time of the crash. Bruce told cops he wasn’t drinking and passed a field sobriety test.

We’re told Bruce had picked up his Polaris UTV after loaning it to a wounded veterans group.

Bruce volunteered to go to the hospital to have his blood drawn for blood alcohol testing. He was taken in a Sheriff’s cruiser. We’ve also learned the woman who was killed in the white car was coming to a stop at a red light when Bruce hit her. We’re told law enforcement has already determined Bruce was not speeding.

So sad. As it turns out, the woman who ultimately died at the scene is a neighbor of the Kardashians — according to MailOnline, she has a home in the same community that Kourtney and Rob live in. The 7 others injured include five children and two adults.

In addition, police have a somewhat different version of events. They say that though media photographers were at the scene, no paparazzi were chasing anyone and did not cause the accident. The LAPD is looking into other possibilities for the cause of the tragic crash — including checking phone records to determine if Bruce was actually texting at the time of the incident.

Principal Uses School Money To Build Private Gym

Wait, is the principal in a bikini???

The NY Post reports:

The principal is in much better shape than her school.

Principal Jazmine Santiago used school funds to install her own private gym with a bench press, pull-up bar, treadmill, elliptical machine and thigh exerciser on the third floor of PS 269 in Flatbush, sources told The Post.

When some staffers questioned the expenditure, Santiago claimed she shares the equipment with older students, according to one source.

But the underperforming school only goes through Grade 5, which would make the oldest students 11 years old and an average 4-foot-10 — not tall enough to reach some of the heavy-duty equipment.
“Their bodies are not ready for a treadmill,” one teacher said.
Staffers fumed that Santiago converted a storage room into her own private workout space in June 2014 with no consultation.

“She comes in early, she goes to the gym. Even when class is in session, she’s still in the gym,” said another teacher.

Teachers say the room is always locked and not accessible to other staff, much less students.

Santiago, who makes $124,319 a year, refused to meet a Post reporter on school grounds and didn’t return calls.

The elementary school has struggled during her four-year reign. Only 16 percent of students passed state English tests and only 12 percent passed math exams last year.

SMH…she’s got some explaining to do.

Brazilian Inmates Escape From Jail

28 inmates escaped from a Brazilian jail after authorities say they seduced guards with kinky lingerie and spiked whiskey, before tying them up and breaking out.

The Daily Mail reports:

Twenty-eight inmates escaped from a Brazilian jail after three women in sexy police costumes ‘seduced’ the prison wardens.

Police found three wardens naked and handcuffed inside the morning after the mass breakout at Nova Mutum public jail near Cuiaba.
Investigators say the women drugged the guards with spiked whisky after convincing them to take part in an orgy.

They arrived at around 3am on Thursday morning and asked if they could come inside to ‘chat and drink’, police say.
The prison guards obliged and were soon persuaded to leave their posts, before heading to the sleeping quarters with the scantily clad women.

After drugging and handcuffing the wardens, they took their keys and unlocked all the prison’s cells according to police chief Angelina de Andrades Ferreira.

‘Whoever wanted to escape left by the front door. From the moment they drank the whisky the agents don’t remember a thing.

‘One was found dizzy, trying to wake up. Another slept for the whole afternoon and couldn’t even be questioned.’

Dozens of prisoners walked straight out the main door carrying guns and ammunition they took from the prison caches.
The inmates took three 12-calibre rifles, shotguns, two 38-calibre revolvers and munition, she said.

Police later discovered a bag of lingerie and skimpy leather police uniforms which they believe the temptresses wore to distract the wardens.

Drew Peterson Charged Trying To Hire Hit Man To Kill Prosecutor

Former Bolingbrook, Illinois, cop Drew Peterson, who is serving 38 years in state prison for the murder of his third wife, has been charged after he allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor for that case.

“The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014, the defendant solicited an individual to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow,” according to a press release from the Illinois attorney general’s office, which is handling the case with the Randolph County state’s attorney’s office.

Peterson, 61, who is incarcerated at the Menard Correctional Center in Menard, Illinois, was charged with one count of solicitation of murder for hire and one of solicitation of murder at a hearing at the Randolph County Courthouse Monday morning, the press release said. His preliminary hearing will be March 3.

Peterson’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, who is handling the appeal of his conviction, did not have an immediate comment on the arrest.

Will County State’s Attorney Glasgow is expected to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. CT to address the charges.

Peterson’s former defense attorney, Joel Brodsky, who represented him at trial, had harsh words for how Greenberg is representing his former client.

“If the current allegations against Mr. Peterson are true, in my opinion, the actions are a result of attorney Steve Greenberg’s failure to control his client, and his failure to keep him informed and focused on his legal opinions, his appeal and other post-conviction remedies,” Brodsky tells PEOPLE.

Greenberg’s appeal argues, in part, that Brodsky was an ineffective counsel.

Those allegations are “baseless and totally without merit,” Brodsky says.

“If Drew committed the acts he is currently charged with, why would he have done so if he had confidence in his appeal?” he tells PEOPLE. “Drew’s alleged actions speak volumes on that issue.”

In September 2012, Peterson was convicted of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, 40, who was found dead in a waterless bathtub in March 2004. He is still a suspect in the October 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, who was 23 when she vanished.
