Vanity Fair Uses White Woman As Example Of Curves And Bronzed Skin

Vanity Fair magazine drew praises from across the United States last month when they rightfully diversified the cover of their annual “Hollywood Issue” to include actors and actresses of color after catching backlash for the lack of in previous years, but a spread in their latest issue seems to all-but counteract last month’s progress.

The March issue of Vanity Fair drew headlines for the right reasons last month, when it featured prominent black actors on the cover of its annual Hollywood issue. For many, the cover signified a shift in attitudes about media representation, since the magazine, one of many in the Conde Nast empire, previously attracted negative attention for its exclusion of people of color. However, a two-page story in its latest issue shows that Vanity Fair is still stuck in the past.

On the surface, the publication (you can find it on pages 164 and 165) applauds female sexuality and self-empowerment, but a closer look reveals deeply-ingrained biases against women of color.

In an article comically entitled “Rear Admirable,” Vanity Fair showcases social media sensation Jen Selter, who skyrocketed to fame after posting photos of her butt on Instagram. The pictures used in the spread include a backside shot of Selter in a black corset, and another of the model in 1940s-inspired, fishnet lingerie. The accompanying text describes Selter as a “member of a rapidly rising subset of Instagram stars: young women unfraid to share their deeply bronzed, sculpted figures.”

The takeaway message is that showing off curves in a public way is not only a new phenomenon, but looking darker, “or bronzed,” is the new way to be beautiful. It’s a breath of fresh air to see curves and darker skin tones applauded by a world-renowned publication, but disappointing that Vanity Fair used a white Jewish woman to convey a newly-accepted norm.

We cannot and should not conclude that women of color have a monopoly on curves. Yet, Vanity Fair overlooked a number of women with naturally bronze skin and voluptuous bodies who were out there way before Selter.

It seems like Vanity Fair has a long way to go.

There’s certainly no shortage of curvy African-American and Latino women with naturally “bronzed” skin in Hollywood….yet Vanity Fair choose to go with Jen Selter. So much for progress.

What the hell??? A Catholic priest has been caught breaking his vows by stealing from nuns and chopping down boy backs!

According to NY Daily News reports:

An Italian priest stole cash from a group of nuns to pay a young Moroccan man for sex, police said.

The holy man, who has not been named, allegedly swiped money entrusted to him by the local convent in Feltre, Belluno.

He then reportedly used it to pay his lover — with whom it is believed he had a “long-standing relationship.”

The amount of money he is accused of stealing has not yet been revealed, but some sources suggest it was into the thousands of euros.

Il Gazzetino reports that the priest was suspended by the Bishop of Belluno-Feltre for “health reasons.”

A “full investigation” into his alleged antics is now underway.

They say that no sin is greater than another but… we wanna know which one you think is worse, stealing from nuns or having same sex relations outside of wedlock and celibacy vows????

Dipset reunited on this track for the first time in 3 years, and BOSSIP was on set for the action. We told you about newcomer Avian and her hot new ode to same-sex groupie-loving “Billboard Chick” a few weeks back. Now, Avian got together with the recently reunited members of Dipset Cam’ron, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana to shoot a visual for this wild track.

We caught up with Avian and Jim Jones to get more details on the track and Dipset’s support of this new artist.

BOSSIP: So, we obviously noticed that you name-dropped quite a few of your industry girl-crushes on the track…

Avian: When we were making this song, I was like “Yo, I wanna make a song about some hot b***hes!” So, obviously we name-dropped the hottest b***hes in the game right now. It’s all about having fun…

This song is clearly like a ratchet, crazy song, so I definitely want people to know that I don’t hold anything back. This is me, this is who I am. I’m fun, I’m outgoing, I have a million different crazy sides, so I want people to hear the record and have fun with it. Love it for what it is, because that’s who I am.

BOSSIP: So who is Avian?

Avian: I am born and raised in New York and I’ve been singing my entire life. I’ve been signed with my independent production label MBAM for about three years now, and when Jim heard the record, he recognized the talent and I’m really fortunate that they all hopped on the track with me. They made this record what it is.

BOSSIP: Speaking of which, how does it feel to be the one that was able to get these guys back together on a record?

Avian: Amazing! I’m totally blessed to have Dipset on this track with me. It’s so cool since they haven’t done a track together in mad long, and they chose to have this reunion with me. I’m totally honored and it’s been so fun! The whole team is awesome and this record is gonna pop, for sure.

Jim Jones had nothing but nice things to say about Avian, this track, and her talent:

BOSSIP: What made Dipset decide to reconnect on a track with Avian in particular?

Jim Jones: Avian is a talented girl. I got to hear a bunch of her music. I did the song a minute ago, but the opportunity presented itself to put my brothers on the record. Business is business and good music is good music. I f*ck with her. I’ll be executive producing her project soon, should be some good music to come out of that.

Naya Rivera Calls Off Wedding With Big Sean After He Admits Cheating

Word on the curb is that wedding bells have ceased ringing for “Glee” star Naya Rivera and her G.O.O.D. music rapper boo Big Sean.

According to Star Magazine reports:

They got engaged after just six months of dating, and now, Naya Rivera and Big Sean are rethinking their fast track to the altar. In fact, the Glee star has put all wedding plans on hold because her rapper beau has admitted to being unfaithful.

Insiders tell Star that after the 26-year-old popped the question in October, his playboy ways did not subside, and he suddenly got cold feet. “It was too much, too fast for him,” a source spills.

Now, Naya’s inner circle is urging her to break things off for good, but the actress refuses to give up so easily. “She’s already picked out a wedding dress and doesn’t want it all to be for nothing,” a pal says. “She’s in denial.”

Naya you might want to save that wedding dress for a more deserving dude.

Update: Ironically the couple who met on Twitter are no longer following each other there any more and there’s a shady tweet going around that is supposedly from Naya (we haven’t been able to confirm if she actually tweeted and deleted it or if it’s doctored) paints a pretty ugly picture of Sean as being shady in all kinds of other ways.

Toyota Announces Worldwide Recall Of 6 Million Vehicles

The Toyota Motor Corporation has been reporting issues with several of their car models over in recent months and now the company has officially announced plans to recall 6 million vehicles worldwide.

Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 6.39 million vehicles globally for a variety of problems spanning nearly 30 models in Japan, the U.S., Europe and other places.

No injuries or crashes have been reported related to the recalls announced Wednesday. But two fires have been reported related to one of the problems, a defective engine starter that can keep the motor running.

Some vehicles were recalled for more than one problem. The recall cases total 6.76 million vehicles for 27 Toyota models, the Pontiac Vibe and the Subaru Trezia, produced from April 2004 through August 2013.

The Pontiac Vibe, which is a General Motors Co. model, is also involved because Toyota and GM made cars at the same plant in California and the recalled model is the same as the Toyota Matrix. It was recalled for a problem with a spiral cable attached to an air-bag. It is unrelated to a separate GM recall over ignition switches linked to at least 13 deaths.

Subaru is partly owned by Toyota, and the model was the same as the Toyota Vitz.

For the recall, Toyota also reported problems with seat rails, the bracket holding the steering column in place, the windshield-wiper motor and a cable attached to the air-bag module.

The recalls affect a large range of models, including the Corolla, RAV4, Matrix, Yaris, Highlander, and Tacoma.

Toyota is definitely popular car brand in the U.S.. so this recall is sure to hit home for a lot of people.

Man Facese $5,000 Fine For Peeing In Co-Worker’s Coffee

A trifling Virgina man will now be responsible for coughing up $5,000 as a consequence for his disgusting decision to urinate in his co-worker’s coffee pot.

If you were thinking of pissing in a co-workers drink, here’s something that should give you pause: A man who admitted spiking his colleague’s coffee with urine was ordered to pay $5,001 in damages. And that fine was in addition to the year-long prison sentence he’d already received.

According to the Daily Progress, on March 16, 2009, James Carroll Butler used an empty soda can to scoop urine from a toilet into his co-worker Michael Utz’s personal coffee pot at the water treatment plant in Culpepper, Va. He returned the pot to the coffee maker “hoping [his co-worker Michael] Utz was the person who would get the urine-tainted coffee.”

Sure enough, Utz tried to brew coffee but stopped when “he was hit with a strong smell of urine, observing fluid already inside his coffee pot that he had not put in there.”

Utz told his supervisor, who suggested testing the liquid at a lab. The results came back positive for urine and feces. Butler confessed to the crime the next day.

“I done something I am very much ashamed of to a co-worker for [reasons, which are] stress-related [and] things going on in my life on and off the job. I am very much ashamed of my stupid and childlike behavior,” Butler wrote in a letter.

Lupita Nyong’o Covers Marie Claire Magazine

Hollyweird ‘IT’ girl Lupita Nyong’o is everywhere these days and she’s landed yet another magazine feature as the cover girl for Marie Claire’s 2014 “Fresh Faces” issue.

In addition to striking a few poses for the camera, Lupita also spoke briefly about being known for her beauty, not being a fashionista before fame and more.  Check out a few excerpts from the interview below.

On being called ‘gorgeous:’
“Being called gorgeous is not a bad thing!” says Lupita Nyong’o, blushing over an omelet, berries, and tea (she doesn’t like coffee) at The Carlyle hotel in New York City. “But at the same time, I don’t want to thrive on people’s opinions of me.”

On her fashion sense:
I wasn’t a follower of fashion. It was a world unknown. Then I met my stylist, Micaela Erlanger and we came to interpret my style: clean lines, strong color. I don’t dress to impress; I don’t feel that pressure.”

On how she’d describe the feeling of waiting to see if she’s won at award shows:
I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It’s an internally loud moment. It’s not even about the outcome; it’s about the agony of the unknown. It’s like waiting for test results in a hospital.

On the perks of fame:
I met Sidney Poitier, who has been someone I’ve looked up to and a blessing from afar. It was an incredible thing and something that I hold very dear to my heart.
