Atria Publishing “Gone With The Wind Prequel Based On Mammy’s Life
According to NY Daily News reports:
On Thursday, Simon & Schuster imprint Atria Publishing announced that it had acquired rights to “Ruth’s Journey,” a novel that tells the story of servant Mammy, one of the key character’s in Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel.
Mammy was played in the film version of the book by actress Hattie McDaniel, who won an Academy Award for the role.
The Mitchell estate authorized the book, which was written by Donald McCaig. He is no stranger to the world of Mitchell’s characters, having already written two other “Gone With the Wind” spin-offs.
Mitchell’s book on the civil war South is often criticized for its one-dimensional portraits of African-American characters.
“What’s really remarkable about what Donald has done is it’s a book that respects and honors its source material, but it also provides a necessary correction to what is one of the more troubling aspects of the book, which is how the black characters are portrayed,” Peter Borland, the editorial director of Atria, told the New York Times.

Being on the outskirts of fame has taught Lorde‘s boyfriend a lot. In a new blog posted on his site titled “everybody returns someday,” James K. Lowe talks about how his life has changed since Lorde became a huge celebrity.

“Since originally sitting down to write this post, Ella has become a two time Grammy winner. She has taken home a Brit too. Currently she is on the opposite side of the world on tour,” he writes of the 17-year-old pop phenom. “As much as I miss her I couldn’t be prouder of what she has achieved so far. If you are lucky enough to attend one of her shows on this current tour, you’ll experience more than just her voice.”
Lowe, an Auckland, New Zealand-based photographer, continues: “Jared Leto said that fame doesn’t change you, it changes everyone around you. While I’m not the centre of attention here (and f—k, the times I have, it’s never been fun), I do become aware of the people around me and their transparency. They fail to hide it. I’ve experienced being a target of the tabloids, finding moments I thought I was in safe hands splattered all over the internet, being pushed and shoved, or watching others get pushed and shoved by paparazzi just to get what they think they’re entitled to.”
But the 24-year-old, who was the target of online bullying earlier this year, maintains a positive outlook despite being somewhat unwillingly thrust into the public eye.
“While I’m dragging on about the negative aspects, they are only a smart part of my world now. There is a bright, shining silver lining to this thing … I’ve been able to tell tales of the many amazing people I’ve met along the way – from fellow photographers, to artists I’ve always admired and never thought I’d get to meet, let alone have a simple thing like coffee with… People who seem to scramble the words within your brain and the only thing you end up doing is blurting out ‘HILSKDFLKWELK’ (at some point it’s a verbal greeting, but ends up a flurry of sweat mixed with spit). More importantly, I’ve found a little inspiration from new faces. People I look up to. People whose work I admire so much,” he says.
“For all of this I have to thank the one I look up to the most. Who I admire the most. Who still fills the little voids I try to avoid.”

Florida Mother Arrested For Her Children’s Deplorable Living Conditions

Authorities described the scene as “horrific” — a foul-smelling home filled with ankle-deep garbage and animal waste where five children lived with their mother.
The scene was so bad that one of the children asked Orlando police and a child-protection worker to take him to a foster home and said he wanted a new family. The boy had broken, rotting teeth and said he could not chew without pain.
All of the children were “unkempt” and obviously had not bathed recently, officers wrote. They ate cold food out of cans and were “parenting themselves,” according to the report.
“The severe medical and overall neglect was horrendous,” officers wrote.
The children were removed from the Orlando home and their mother, Yolander Lasane, was arrested Tuesday after child-protection workers contacted police.
The garbage, which had to be shoveled out before workers could go inside, filled a large city trash can, according to an arrest report.
“It was evident that no part of this residence had been properly cleaned or maintained in years,” officers wrote in the report.
Lasane, 45, was being held Wednesday at the Orange County Jail on five counts of child neglect causing great bodily harm. Her children are 5, 9, 12, 15 and 17. Another child is grown and lives elsewhere.

On Monday, police and investigators from the Florida Department of Children and Families found animal feces all over the floor, doors and walls. There was black mold, rotting food, filth and garbage in the kitchen and an insect-filled bathroom with a broken toilet, sink and tub, the report states.
The front doorknob was hanging down and couldn’t be locked.
Animal-control workers removed pets that had been neglected and were suffering, the report shows.
In three of the children’s bedrooms, the floors were strewn with dirty clothes and trash, the lights and air conditioning did not work and the mattresses were “crawling with various bugs,” according to the report.
They need sit this filthy broad down for a LONG time behind this isht!

Ho Sit Down: Jackie Christie Aired Out Over Fake “GLAAD” Event — Event Planner Says She Still Owes Funds To Him And His Vendors!

BBWLA Star Jackie Christie Accused Of Faking Relationship With GLAAD, Failing To Pay Invoices
BOSSIP has exclusively obtained a series of emails between Jackie Christie and her former publicist — the same one many of you may remember her beefing with on camera during her “GLADD event” on an episode of “Basketball Wives” that aired two weeks ago.
If you were already raising an eyebrow over the “fundraiser” when Jackie and her lackeys demonstrated their inability to correctly spell GLAAD, these emails should clear things up.
In the first email, dated March 8, Jackie claims her relationship with the gay rights organization has been jeopardized by her publicist:
“This email is at best a huge misrepresentation of facts and it saddens me that somehow my very new relationship with Gladd as well as the Sofitel hotel is at risk because you deem it necessary to wave threats around, and yes, I also have documentation that states what impression I was under… I was only trying to do something for an organization me and my family hold near and dear to our hearts, and that is all…never ever would I use anyone for that matter as collateral damage as you put it.”
We also obtained a response from Jackie’s former publicist dated March 10 which refutes her relationship with GLAAD:
“To clarify, you have never had a “relationship” w/ GLAAD — as our client is their National Spokesperson, my office leveraged our alliance on your behalf and secured the approval of their name/likeness for the event feat in tonite’s episode. If the preview is an indication of how Ep 4 plays out, “huge misrepresentation” is the only explanation for all that transpired that evening compared to the “classy fundraiser” you promised during pre-production w/ Shed Media. Perhaps it is your definition of “classy” that GLAAD and our office should have asked for you to elaborate further.
As for The Sofitel, once again you have never had a relationship w/ that venue and our office faciliated multiple days of filming on-site on behalf of Shed Media and yourself. You are well aware of their unhappiness to all that transpired during filming — Shed Media received their written response. Among their objections was the hiring of strippers by yourself which jeopardized their brand and their demand that none of that footage be incl in Ep 4. Your initial misrepresentation of the caliber of event to all parties that incl your personal guarantee that The Sofitel would be opening their doors for a “classy fundraiser” is the source of their post-event concerns.
By no means have any alleged “threats” been made by my office and we are not liable for the absence of any viable relationship btwn GLAAD and/or The Sofitel and yourself. It is reasonable to conclude that the alarming, violent, embarrassing, unstable and disruptive behavior that you displayed during filming also played a major factor.
In the last email from her publicist, which is dated March 25, Jackie is accused of bailing on several bills including the one for his services and her motives for using GLAADs name are questioned:
Ms. Christie:
In an effort to minimize misperception re: the event feat in tonite’s episode, pls refrain from referring to it as a “fundraiser” for GLAAD and the gay community. Sadly, GLAAD has not received any monies allegedly “raised” on their behalf via your September 2013 event — should this be an accounting error, pls provide documentation of your donation so that this oversight can be corrected immediately. As it stands, GLAAD and the entire gay community have every reason to question your true motive and intent for making them part of your event in September.
In addition, you have ignored multiple e-mails (10/04/13, 10/17/13, etc) regarding your unpaid invoice ($675.00) from Zing Graphics which produced the step/repeat for your event. As you have made absolutely no effort to rectify this matter, Kristina has indicated that she will be taking legal action to collect the delinquent payment.
Lastly, as was the case during Season 2, you have an outstanding balance with our office that is severely delinquent. We can no longer allow you to ignore this obligation and have no other option than to also seek legal action.
