Alteria Woods, 21, had a lot to look forward to. The young woman was expecting her first child and was four months pregnant. But her life was cut short on Sunday morning after she was shot and killed during a S.W.A.T. raid on the home of her boyfriend, the father of her unborn child. Her boyfriend is accused of causing her death. A Florida CBS affiliate reports that Andrew Coffee IV, 23, and his father, Andrew Coffee III, 38, were the targets during a raid carried out by Indian River County deputies. It was reportedly set up in response to recent shootings in the Gifford, Fla. area (including the shooting death of Deputy Garry Chambliss) and over the fact that the Coffee house is known as a drug house.

Police traveled to the home before 6 a.m. on Sunday, and when they got there, Coffee III was apprehended after stepping outside. He reportedly tussled with officers but was still arrested. As for his son, it was Coffee IV who allegedly started firing at police through a bedroom window, shooting a deputy who is expected to be fine. Woods found herself in the crossfire while in the home after Coffee allegedly hid behind her as the shootout took place. That’s the story according to Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar.

Renée Elise Goldsberry: Telling Stories People Should Know Puts “Actors On The Level Of Nurses And Doctors”

Next month, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” will debut on HBO, and the movie’s stars, Oprah and Renée Elise Goldsberry, will also make their debut on the cover of Essence magazine’s April issue.

In the television drama, Goldsberry portrays Henrietta, the African American woman whose cells from a cervical cancer diagnosis were taken without her knowledge and used in research that forever changed the course of cancer treatment. Lacks own family wasn’t made aware of the existence of Henrietta’s cell lines until 1975, with many others not learning of this story until Rebecca Skloot’s 2010 book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It’s for that reason, Goldsberry said her role as an actress in this film is so important.

“I love the opportunity to tell stories that people should know,” Goldsberry told Essence.“I think it puts what we do as actors on the level of nurses and doctors. It takes us out of this idea of entertainment into an act of service.”

LeBron James Salutes Man Who Broke Up A Viral Video Fight

LeBron James took time out of his busy professional basketball schedule to weigh in on a viral fight video that’s been making the rounds on the Internet. The Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star praised a gentleman in the street fight clip who broke up a fight between two young boys and gave them a lesson on life to boot.
“So dope!!! #Salute the homie who stepped in and spoke real to our young generation. We all need a word or 2 to help!” tweeted James late Monday (March 20) night to his 34.5 million followers.
In the video, originally posted by @DubOnDaBeatz, doesn’t identify what city the video was filmed. What is most notable is that the unidentified gentleman spit real life bars about how Black teens fighting in the streets isn’t a good look as they approach adulthood.
Of course, some of the kids thought the OG’s passionate concern was all jokes but they should be commended for stopping the fighting and actually standing at rapt attention when he spoke.

Chicago Teen Raped On Facebook Live

A Chicago teenager who spent the weekend with her uncle, left on Sunday after church to resume her weekly activities. Reginald King says that a day after his niece departed from him, he came across a her graphic Facebook Live stream where she was being raped by up to six guys. The Chicago Tribune reports that Reginald was shocked, “It was very, very graphic. She’s pulled toward the bed” he said. The teen was kidnapped on the way to the store and used the video to alert someone. 

“This is one of the bravest things I’ve ever seen a kid do. There were adults who saw this. None of them had the wherewithal to say, ‘Hey, I gotta call someone’ ” her uncle said of her decision. The High School Freshman wasn’t returned home safely until Tuesday morning, when cops found her walking a few blocks away from her home. Police say they are working on identifying who the thugs are in the video who forced themselves on the girl. The disturbing part it, that the video had up to 40 viewers at one point, and no one bothered to contact police and help identify any of the alleged attackers.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that investigators were “making good progress identifying persons of interest in 10th Dist assault. Interviews ongoing but no formal suspects named yet.”

SMH, wow.

Beyoncé Embracing Her Pregnancy Experience With Twins

Beysus isn’t having an easy pregnancy with Blueprint 1 and Blueprint 2 but word on the curb is she’s embracing it anyway.

According to E! Online reports, even though Beyoncé is “harder time this pregnancy with keeping up her energy,” she is still having a great experience.

“She loves being pregnant,” the insider says.

When it comes down to the Coachella cancellation — the source says Bey wanted to go through with her performance this year but because she “always” pushes herself — which is precisely what the doctor advised her not to do, she put the performance off until next year.

As probably to be expected, Mama Bey is following a pretty healthy diet, but the source says she’s not denying herself cravings:

“She splurges when she wants to and hasn’t taken her weight gain as a negative thing. She is a confident woman in her skin whatever size she is [and] embraces it.”

She’s not the only one embracing her skin either! The source says the coupled up Carters remain in a great place as they anticipate the birth of their twinsies.

Taraji P. Henson And Nia Long Allegedly Feud On The Set Of ‘Empire’

We’re not EVEN trying to believe this, but it might just be true…

Let TMZ tell it, Taraji P. Henson and Nia Long couldn’t even stand to be in the same room as one another while shooting the new season of Empire.

According to “multiple production assistants” have come out to throw Nia Long under a bus for being extremely rude to the folks in hair, make-up and wardrobe. None of which Taraji allegedly took too kindly.

Things allegedly got so contentious that the women would not speak to one another and their scenes had to be shot separately.

Nia will be playing one of Lucious Lyon’s old school ex-girlfriends in the upcoming season which premieres tonight.

It is also said that regardless of what happens this season, Nia has zero chance of returning for season 4.

Nia’s rep denies every single allegation against her:

“This story is complete nonsense. Throughout her long, established career, Nia has been nothing but a consummate professional treating all members of productions with respect.”

“This is nothing but another complete fabrication about a series that has been plagued by constant rumors of drama and misconduct.”

It’s a lil heartbreaking to consider that two of the women that we’ve loved for so long (no pun intended) could hate each other. While we doubt either woman would publicly slander the other, we got questions that need answering.

People are people and no one HAS to like anyone else, but division amongst Black women in Hollywood is the LAST thing we need. Especially right now.

London Suffers Vehicular Terrorist Attack Leaving Dozens Dead Or Injured

S#!t got real today in London as a reported terror attack left two dozen people dead or severely injured.

In a similar fashion to the terrorist attacks in both Nice, France and Berlin, a man drivign and SUV plowed through pedestrians who were walking the Westminster Bridge. According to DailyMail, the driver of the vehicle eventually crashed into a fence not far from Big Ben, but at that point he had injured or killed a significant number of people.

The crazed driver then fled the vehicle and pulled out a what has been described as a Bowie knives and began attacking police officers who were on patrol on the Parliament grounds.

One officer was killed after being stabbed with both weapons.

Before you get to assuming and judging the usual suspects, the man was described as “middle-aged” and “Asian”. He was shot multiple times by the armed police and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

In a eerie case of irony, or possibly not, this incident comes exactly one year to the day of the terrorist attack in Brussels, March 22, 2016.

R.I.P. to those who lost their lives, thoughts and prayers to those who are currently fighting to survive.

Spring Break Student Shot While In D.C.

Ayana Mccallister’s father says she was on a spring break from her North Carolina college when she was fatally shot on the set of music video in Washington. The 18 year old was a student at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh. She and another woman were hit with bullets on the music video location when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting according to The Grio. 

“That’s my baby. I just miss her warm smile. The close relationship that we have,” he said. “They were just spending time with him yesterday, several kids hanging out.” The other woman who was shot on the scene was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

Saint Augustine University expressed their condolences to the Callister family on social media. Smh, senselessness.

Kristi Yamaguchi Tells Nancy Kerrigan To “Break A Leg”

Kristi Yamaguchi is getting the BUSINESS on Twitter over a tweet she sent to a fellow figure skater.

Nancy Kerrigan, who was famously clubbed in the knee by someone allegedly working for skating rival Tonya Harding in ’94, is currently one of the contestants on season 24 of “Dancing With The Stars.”

And today, ’92 Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi decided to send her some good luck in a HORRENDOUSLY worded tweet.

“Break a leg,” wrote Yamaguchi on Twitter to her fellow figure skater.

TWD Actor Steve “Glenn” Yeun And Wife Give Birth To Baby Boy

The Walking Dead fans probably still miss Glenn, and he probably misses the show, but just know that he’s living a pretty good life.

The recently married actor, Steven Yeun, and his wife Joana, just brought home their very first child!

According to EOnline, Yeun’s son came into the world last week on March 17th. The couple was married in front of family, friends and many of The Walking Dead’s cast including Norman Reedus (Daryl), Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Melissa McBride (Carol), Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), Chandler Riggs (Carl), Emma Bell (Amy) and Alanna Masterson (Tara).

So here we are, folks. It’s time to talk about the midseason finale (that’s right, the season didn’t come to a complete end this time around). Still, as with all finales, things have to reach a climax, and they certainly do — as does Mary Jane with Justin’s help (literally). You know things are about to go left when someone is sitting with their man but thinking about another man. That’s exactly what is going on when the mid-season finale starts. While brainstorming plans for Mary Jane’s 40th birthday with Kara, Lee makes a poor cake recommendation and remarks that “I’m obviously out of my league” with such a suggestion (it was chocolate cake with white icing by the way). At that very moment, Justin walks into the room via a daydream and says to MJ, “He said it, not me.” She freezes for a moment before remembering where she’s at, and who she’s with.

Adrienne Talks About Moment She Knew Her Relationship With Lenny Wasn’t Right

The women of “The Real” are living up to the name of their show with this week’s topics of discussion. Earlier this week, Loni opened up about her miscarriage and now, Adrienne is speaking about the reason she called off her engagement to Lenny Santiago.

Tamera: “When did you know, because I think a woman always knows this, when did you know that it wasn’t right? But then you kept on in the relationship?”

Adrienne: “I think I knew when I moved across the country and we didn’t need each other in that way. And I think at some point it almost… can become almost a saving grace, like ‘Let’s try… Maybe if we do this…’
Does that make sense?”

If I’m being honest, it’s a little unclear. But if you watch the video, you can tell that Adrienne was doing her best to be as tactful and un-offending as possible. And while the second half got a little muddled for me, the first part was pretty clear. It seems that they thought their problem was distance. And then when they were in the same place together, they still found that the relationship wasn’t exactly right.

Sarah Palin Fried Online For Shot At Colin Kaepernick’s Meals On Wheels Donation

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and past Vice Presidential candidate, has entered the media fray once more but perhaps not in the way she probably appreciates. Palin took a swipe at NFL player Colin Kaepernick‘s recent Meals On Wheels donation and people on social media have been giving her the business.
Over on Sarah Palin’s website, which we won’t be linking to, she posted a link to an article by Mary Kate Knorr that labeled Kaepernick’s $50,000 donation to the meal delivery service a publicity stunt. Under President Donald Trump’s potential budget, the program could the federal grant it receives which makes up a significant portion of its operations budget.
Over on Palin’s Facebook page and Twitter, which again we won’t be linking, she took another jab at the current free agent quarterback writing, “And he wonders why he can’t find a job.”
Of course, Kaepernick is an enemy of conservatives and ultra-patriots over his refusal to stand for the National Anthem ahead of football games last season. The bold stance hasn’t just been criticized by those on the Right as liberals and others in the middle have taken shots at Kap as well.

Suge Knight Hospitalized For Blood Clots

As you probably know by now, Suge Knight has been having a rough go of it for the last couple years while he’s been in prison. Plagued by multiple health issues and even rumored blindness while facing the judge off and on in the criminal death of his former friend.

Now the former Death Row exec is back in the hospital for a chronic condition that has been plaguing him for 2 years.

According to TMZ, Suge has been taken to USC Medical Center for treatement for his blood clots.

Apparently, Suge’s been in solitary confinement and has frequently complained that the conditions are having a negative effect on his health. He’s been in and out of the hospital several times while his trial has dragged on over the last two years.

He’s in stable condition at the moment…but seeing as how he’ll likely be headed right back to solitary once he’s out of the doctors’ care, who knows how long his healthy streak will last?.

Sanaa Lathan Dishes On “Shots Fired” & More!

We caught up with stunning (and super sweet) A-list actress Sanaa Lathan at Lincoln’s extravagant “Luxury Is…” experience in L.A. where she opened up about her highly anticipated FOX mini-series Shots Fired, Best Man 3, staying 40-FINE and more with a beautifully breezy energy that made us fall in love with her all over again.

After a strong 20 years in the game, she’s done everything you can do as a talented Black actress in whitewashed Hollyweird and switched it up with a major mini-series that’s an absolute must-see.

“It’s created by the creator of Love & Basketball and it’s a 10-hour mini-series movie and it’s all set in the world of Black Lives Matter. And it’s a mystery thriller and it’s gonna be so hot and people are gonna be on the edge of their seats and it’s relevant and it’s topical to what’s going on in our country today… I play a woman named Ashe Akino and she’s an investigator and I have to go into this world and solve these crimes that have to do with what we’re dealing with today so I’m excited for the world to see that!”

She also exclusively dished on her upcoming blockbuster that sounds like an easy $500 milli at the box office.

“I just got back from London shooting a movie called American Assassin with Michael Keaton and a really amazing young actor named Dillon O’Brian and it’s similar to the Jason Bourne type of movies in that it’s based on a big book series that’s very popular…these books, there’s like, yanno…several…like, teens…like fifteens of books and one of the things that’s great about this is that my character–Irene Kennedy–is a white woman in the books so this is like a big franchise movie and they hired me, as a Black woman, to play a white woman character.”

Sanaa has played everything from a vampire superhero’s mother to the most hated female character in Tyler Perry movie history (The Family That Preys), but it’s her unappreciated role in Alien Vs. Predator that got us cackling like old friends.

“I’m an actress and I love playing all different types of characters… I don’t discriminate between genres so I love doing that, it was hard work regardless of what you thought of the movie… it was a grueling, challenging, FUN experience for me

-Bossip: And you survived!-

“*laughs* I survived as a Black woman…they slept on (Alien Vs. Predator) because, at that time, especially, every Black person in every scary movie was getting killed immediately and I not only survived, I was the last survivor and that’s part of the reason I wanted to do it. I was like ‘oh, I’m not gonna be another pawn in this movie that dies first or second…”

For months, there were loud whispers about the third and final chapter of the beloved Best Man franchise but, according to Sanaa, it’s…not a go just yet.

“We don’t have a start date for Best Man because everybody from Terrence to me, Nia, Taye we’re all doing…Regina…we’re all doing different things right now. The script is not quite finished. There’s been a lot of press which I love because it means people are excited but, no, we haven’t filmed it yet so who knows when that’s gonna happen. Fingers crossed.”

Of course she touched on how she deals with industry rumors and gossip (that we’ve sometimes posted).

“It goes with the territory you just gotta roll with it. I mean, sometimes it gets to you and, yanno, sometimes you laugh, sometimes it’s like UGH! It’s a kick in the stomach but, you know what, it’s part of the territory. I learned a loooong time ago from my mother if they’re not talkin about you then you aint doin nothin”

You know we couldn’t let Sanaa go without asking how she stays 40-FINE at 45.

“I think that beauty comes from inside and when you’re truly happy and you’re passionate about your life, it shines through. Period, end of story. And obviously we have to do things like take care of ourselves, the more you take care of yourself, the better you feel and the better you look.”

Erica Dixon Arrested After Traffic Stop

TMZ is reporting that Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’s Erika Dixon was arrested by police, after she allegedly “fled the scene” of  a traffic stop. In the video you can see police attempt to yank Erica out of the car after speeding off. She doesn’t exit the vehicle easily, before giving them a piece of  her mind.

Erica was allegedly stopped for speeding, initially. TMZ says she may have assumed cops were finish giving her a citation when she left the scene. Her actions however, landed her in jail. A police vehicle cuts her at a gas station and police surround the front and side of the car before she opens the door.

Reports say Erica was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to a nearby detention center where she  was cited and released.

Yikes.

Barack Obama Releases Statement Praising ACA On Act’s 7th Anniversary

Ain’t no American Health Care Act, bih. That’s pretty much what the House of Representatives said to Donald today as it was announced that they will NOT be holding the vote to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act today as initially scheduled.

According to CNN, Paul Ryan continuously postponed a planned press briefing in a desperate attempt to continue negotiations with the members of the House Freedom Caucus who aren’t exactly sold on burnt sienna POTUS’ proposal.

The Freedom Caucus has been delivered a “final offer,” said a member of House leadership, chief deputy whip Patrick McHenry. “It’s really in the hands of the members there to accept or reject the White House’s offer.”

“This is the final offer,” McHenry said. “We have a package, they have an offer, and‎ they can accept or reject it.”

Today marks the day that President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act that Donnie and his band of merry men are so desperate to disassemble.

The landmark date was not lost on the former POTUS, he released a timely statement touting the benefits of his signature Presidential legislation to effectively put a thumb in Don-Don’s eye:

When I took office, millions of Americans were locked out of our health care system. So, just as leaders in both parties had tried to do since the days of Teddy Roosevelt, we took up the cause of health reform. It was a long battle, carried out in Congressional hearings and in the public square for more than a year. But ultimately, after a century of talk, decades of trying, and a year of bipartisan debate, our generation was the one that succeeded. We finally declared that in America, health care is not a privilege for a few, but a right for everybody.

The result was the Affordable Care Act, which I signed into law seven years ago today. Thanks to this law, more than twenty million Americans have gained the security and peace of mind of health insurance. Thanks to this law, more than ninety percent of Americans are insured – the highest rate in our history. Thanks to this law, the days when women could be charged more than men and Americans with pre-existing conditions could be denied coverage altogether are relics of the past. Seniors have bigger discounts on their prescription drugs. Young people can stay on their parents’ plans until they turn 26 years old. And Americans who already had insurance received an upgrade as well – from free preventive care, like mammograms and vaccines, to improvements in the quality of care in hospitals that has averted nearly 100,000 deaths so far.
