As is often said, rap is a competitive sport. The essence of rap music and MC’ing is showing others how much more clever, witty and observant you are then the next rapper. Often times that can lead to insults and not-so-subtle jabs. Other times, a battle can ensue over personal matters and sometimes the “battle” isn’t even between two rappers.
2015 had it’s fair share of them all and today, we round up some of the best and most noteworthy.

Lesbian WNBA baller Brittney Griner is NOT going for the banana in the tailpipe. No pun intended.
According to TMZ, Britt wants her estranged wife, Glory Johnson, to release her medical records to prove that the twin girls born back in October are the product of infidelity and NOT the fertility clinic that the two had agreed to use.
Brittney has a sneaking suspicion that Glory had been cheating on her with a man, specifically, Glory’s ex-boyfriend. Ya know, back when she was “delivert”.
The two ladies are in the middle of an ugly divorce battle and Brittney does not want to pay a dime in child support if the babies were actually fathered by Glory’s previous peen provider and not an unknown sperm donor.
We can’t blame her, who the hell wants to pay out money to the person who cheated on you??

Looks like Lam Lam’s recovery is going just as great as we reported last month. Just two weeks ago Lamar was taking his first steps without the help of a walker and now he’s well enough for selfies. Won’t He do it?!
The sweet selfie comes courtesy of Lamar’s son, who posted the Christmas Day snap on New Year’s Eve.
Doesn’t he look good for a guy who was damn near dead just three months ago?
Don Lemon should be drunk more often because Drunk Don is infinitely times better than Sober Don.
One of the oldest public spectacles in America, Philadelphia‘s Mummers Parade, is in hot water for mocking the country’s newest transgender “hero” Caitlyn Jenner. As damn near everyone knows, Caitlyn used to be Bruce Jenner, olympic gold medalist and champion.
Well, in Philly, Caitlyn, Bruce and whoever else are just the butts of a joke.
Newly elected mayor Jim Kenney had this to say about the bigotry in his city according to TMZ:
“Our trans citizens do not deserve this type of satire/insult.”
What do you think? Funny or foul?

A Canadian man is speaking out after being charged more than $1,100 for a 60-minute ride home on New Year’s Eve using Uber according to CTV News:
“We use Uber all the time, so it was the first choice for me,” said Matthew Lindsay. “I’ve taken a similar route at peak time before and it cost me about $77.”
Lindsay and a group of friends were celebrating a wedding at the Southwood Community League in Mill Woods.
The driver headed to Summerside first to drop off friends. Lindsay was then dropped off in the Castle Downs neighbourhood, before the Uber driver continued on to drop off two more people in St. Albert.
“It was a long trip. A total of 63 kilometres.”
Lindsay didn’t realize how much had been charged to his account until after he had been dropped off.
“A 60 minute ride for a thousand dollars,” he said. “I could fly across the world for this price. Instead, I went from one end of the city to another.”The normal fare for the ride was $125, which was multiplied by 8.9.
“It’s a long trip, that’s an understandable rate. But once you tack on 8.9 times it definitely surges right up there.”
In an emailed statement, an Uber spokesperson told CTV News that ‘surge pricing’ is put in place during busy times and is used as an incentive for drivers to offer rides.“They just haven’t acknowledged the fact that this is an unfathomable price. It’s a ridiculous, outrageous price.”
Lindsay said he’s speaking out to warn other Uber riders.“Definitely do your research. Make sure that you get the estimate, and know what you’re getting into.”
One Twitter user even joked about the surge on NYE…
Thx for the #NYE ride last night @Uber! Look, if you can't afford #surge, just drink and drive like a normal person. pic.twitter.com/b2EK2cJUMw

If you agree to the surge price, can you really get mad at Uber for taking all your coins??
For 11 years, a North Carolina woman slept comfortably, secure in the knowledge that she had put the man who raped her in prison for life. And for 11 years, that man endured the endless days of confinement praying that someday, somehow, his innocence would be proved.
On Tuesday, Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and the man she mistakenly put in prison, Ronald Cotton, shared a couch on the TODAY show as they told co-host Meredith Vieira a tale about pain and redemption — and the tricks that memory can play on people with the best intentions.
“This can happen to anyone. And hopefully it does not happen to them,” Cotton told Vieira.
We reported last week that RHOA hopeful Amiyah Scott reportedly walked away from the show because of “contractual conflicts” but according to TMZ the transgender model was just too boring the reality show…
Scott — who would have been the first transgender female cast member — got a trial run and claims she walked off the set because they were trying to sexually exploit her.
But our production sources say Amiyah never walked off … she just didn’t make the cut because she brought nothing interesting to the table … being transgender doesn’t make you automatically interesting.
As for claims she was forced to wear lingerie … producers say that’s ridiculous. Porsha Williams — who has a lingerie line — thought Amiyah was beautiful and made the offer and Amiyah declined … simple as that.
Amiyah posted this message saying that she wanted to “maintain her dignity” by not being on the hit Bravo show…
Must be 2 sides!!!!

The tiny town of Bal Harbour, on the northern tip of Miami Beach, but its police department was recently busted for taking in a few million dollars from international drug cartels according to Raw Story reports:
The Bal Harbour PD and the Glades County Sheriff’s Office set up a giant money laundering scheme with the purported goal of busting drug cartels and stemming the surge of drug dealing going on in the area. But it all fell apart when federal investigators and the Miami-Herald found strange things going on.
The two-year operation, which took in more than $55 million from criminal groups, resulted in zero arrests but netted $2.4 million for the police posing as money launderers. Members of the 12-person task force traveled far and wide to carry out their deals, from Los Angeles to New York to Puerto Rico.
Along the way, the small-town cops got a taste of luxury as they used the money for first-class flights, luxury hotels, Mac computers and submachine guns. Meanwhile, the Bal Harbour PD and Glades County Sheriffs were buying all sorts of fancy new equipment.
Besides these “official” uses of the money, confidential records obtained by the Miami-Herald show that officers withdrew hundreds of thousands of dollars with no record of where the money went.
“They were like bank robbers with badges,” said Dennis Fitzgerald, an attorney and former Drug Enforcement Administration agent who taught undercover tactics for the U.S. State Department. “It had no law enforcement objective. The objective was to make money.”
The operation, which was not fully reported to federal authorities, funneled millions of dollars to overseas criminals and interfered with investigations being carried out on known money launderers.
After the Department of Justice busted the Bal Harbour PD for misspending seized money to pay police salaries, the Miami-Herald began deeper investigations and found a much bigger pool of money that was never noticed by the feds. Soon after that, the ambitious sting operation—which was really just a money-making scheme—began to fall apart.

The author of the controversial “The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors” essays has died.
The family of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing confirmed that she passed away this weekend in Washington D.C. after being hospitalized.
Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, a psychiatrist whose ideas about racism and society sparked years of debate and controversy, has died at age 80, according to the Washington Informer, which cites confirmation from her relatives.
Welsing had been hospitalized in Washington, D.C., this week after suffering a stroke.
Announcing her death Saturday morning, activist and radio host Harry Allen wrote, “The void she leaves has no boundary.”
As news of Welsing’s death emerged, she was mourned by many – including musician Chuck D, who credits her with the intellectual inspiration for the 1990 Public Enemy album Fear of a Black Planet.
Civil rights leader Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. was also among those mourning Welsing today.
According to the Informer, Welsing was kept on life-support systems until her sister, Loren Cress Love, could travel from Chicago to be with her.
Condolences to the family.

A rapper formerly in the group Slum Village may be facing jail time for scamming Kickstarter fans.
Back in September of 2013, Elzhi promised backers of his project that he would deliver a full album to them if they sent donations. Just a few week later he raised over $37,ooo. According to his kickstarter page, he made promises to send album artwork, singles and merchandise to them, which they never received.
It’s been over a year and a half and angry people who have sent donation have left angry comments. This comment was directed to backers only by another person who donated funds and never received anything from Elzhi :
Dear fellow backers: I’m preparing a class action lawsuit against Jason Powers aka Elzhi for failure to deliver the album we funded, rewards and failure to refund. If you want to be plaintiff, please email your full legal name and the city and state in which you reside to [redacted]. You can find information about my legal background [linkedin link redacted]. I will post updates regarding the lawsuit to this comment thread. Thank you — now let’s get our money back!
Here’s a quick update on the class action that’s in the works: You don’t have to be a plaintiff in the case to recover. If we’re able to establish a class and recover, backers will be eligible to recover as class members without being named plaintiffs and in the same manner as the named plaintiffs. However, the court may give “incentive awards” (i.e. extra cash) to the named plaintiffs for their service as class representatives. (I’ll fill you in on what that entails.)
If you want to consider being a named plaintiff, please email your full legal name and the city and state in which you reside to [redacted]. I won’t do anything with that information without your further approval.
Do you think it’s fair for backers to sue Elzhi for not fulfilling his kickstarter promise? Or should they just chuck it up?
