Thandie Newton Blasts Retailers For Not Carrying Darker Shades Of Make Up

English actress Thandie Newton is calling out a certain cosmetics retailer in her home country as well as retailers in general who don’t carry make up products for black skin.

Actress Thandie Newton has criticized high street store Boots for its lack of make-up suitable for black skin.

The actress, who is also the face of skincare brand Olay, spoke out at an event last week about the lack of beauty products available for darker skin.

She claimed that the popular UK high street chain will often stock darker make-up shades when a new product launches, but will take them off the shelves earlier than lighter versions.

“If the make-up was in there longer, the girls would go and get it and then the stores would get more, and they’d realize that everybody wants it, and then they would stock it,” she told the Mail Online.

“There’s this ghettoisation of make-up right now. The right shade is there for everybody but you can only get it at specialised shops.

“So you don’t go to Boots. As a result we are all being physically separated when we go and buy make-up,” she said.

“We’re starting to think they don’t want us there and it’s not that, it’s just that six-month time lapse where the shops are waiting to be able to say it’s not selling so let’s stop stocking it. We’ve got to encourage them.”

The 41-year-old also criticized the chemist chain for not using more pictures of black models in its stores.

“I’ll go into Boots at Heathrow Airport if I’ve forgotten my make-up bag or something and there isn’t even a picture of a black woman. I hate that,” she sighed.

Malia Obama Working As Production Assistant On Halle Berry Show

It seems an Obama is going Hollywood, and it’s not the president.

Malia Obama, oldest daughter of the most powerful man in the world, has reportedly been working as a production assistant on the Los Angeles set of Halle Berry‘s sci-fi TV series “Extant” (produced by Steven Spielberg).

According to The Wrap, the President’s eldest daughter “helped with computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take,” a set source told the website.

The President and the First Lady visited their daughter in California over the weekend.

Their youngest daughter, 13-year-old Sasha, didn’t make the trip.

In a New Yorker profile earlier this year, Mr Obama outed Malia as an aspiring filmmaker, and a fan of HBO’s “Girls.”

Obama insisted he and his wife were not “particularly conservative” and “not prudes” when it came to the entertainment they allow their teenage girls to view, but he said he did want them to have some boundaries.

“Kids with structure have an easier time of it,” he said.

Lil’ on the job training never hurt.

Casey Kasem Dead At 82, Remembered By Ryan Seacrest

Casey Kasem’s replacement Ryan Seacrest recently made a classy move by issuing a statement on the radio legend’s death.

CNN reports:

Word of Casey Kasem’s death hit Sunday morning — the same time of day that millions of people listened to his “American Top 40″ radio show each week for four decades.
Ryan Seacrest, who took over hosting duties from Kasem 10 years ago, called it “a sad day for the broadcasting community and for radio listeners around the world.”

“When I was a kid, I would listen to Casey Kasem’s “AT40″ show every weekend, and dream about someday becoming a radio DJ,” Seacrest said in a statement. “So when decades later I took over his AT40 countdown show, it was a surreal moment. Casey had a distinctive friendly on-air voice, and he was just as affable and nice if you had the privilege to be in his company. He’ll be greatly missed by all of us.”

Seacrest will expand on that in next weekend’s AT40 show, which will be dedicated to the “King of Countdowns.” The show’s website posted an audio tribute to Kasem Sunday so fans could hear his voice.

DJ Rick Dees, whose own syndicated music countdown competed with Kasem’s, told CNN that their “friendly competition led to years of friendship and respect. We will all miss his style, his voice, and his ability to communicate. Casey was an original who can’t be replaced.”

Well, rumors have it that the eternal opportunist former songstress has been getting breezy with Weezy as of late…and possibly even left Jas Prince for the “Best Rapper Alive.” Miss Milian hasn’t been seen flicking it up on the Rap-A-Lot Ranch with (former?) fiancee Jas Prince recently…and her rock has been noticeably absent from her Instagram snaps for several weeks.

Matters weren’t made any better when Wayne released his latest track, “Tina Turn Up Needs A Tune Up,” apparently calling out Christina Milian and Jas Prince directly by name in extremely thinly veiled references. Take a listen:

In addition, the only public “Happy Father’s Day” wish that Christina sent out was to her own daddy. Even after Jas has so diligently caped up to take care of Terius’ child over the past year or so.

A quick scan on Jas’ Instagram reveals that despite the social media separation from his boo, his been simpin’ like Robin Thicke in an effort to prove his love. The public display of pathetic posts began about three weeks ago, right around the time that Lil Wayne released his song “Tina Turner Needs A Tune Up”.

We can’t say for sure if Christina is sucking d*** for Trukfit, but one thing is certain, it’s curtains for Jas Prince.

Justine Sacco, the PR exec who became a Twitter cause célèbre in December when her provocative tweet about Africa made the rounds, is back promoting the relaunch of Hot or Not.

Sacco, formerly of IAC, will help with the app’s promotion and relaunch, according to BuzzFeed. The app, based on the once-hot website that rates people on their perceived comeliness, has been repurposed to use location-based data to point out the most attractive people in your vicinity. The app, which is now owned by the UK-based Badoo, will also curate customized Hot Lists based on how each user votes on profiles of celebrities that have been created by the Hot or Not team.

On Dec. 20, Sacco tweeted “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” which, judging by some of her previous tweets, was an attempt at edgy humor. Since Sacco had relatively few followers, the tweet went largely unnoticed until Valleywag picked it up. That set off a Twitter firestorm, which was exacerbated by the fact that Sacco was on a plane and couldn’t defend herself. Impatient journalists started the hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet.

Since IAC’s firing of Sacco, she kept a very low profile. Sacco’s LinkedIn profile says she joined Badoo in April and is now head of public relations for Hot or Not.

Kanye West Blasts Annie Liebovitz For Pulling Out Of Wedding Last Minute

Speaking on a Cannes Lions panel Tuesday, West explained how he and newlywed wife Kim Kardashian pretty much had their honeymoon ruined because they spent four days toiling over their famous Instagram flick to get the flowers to look like Liebovitz (who ditched photog duties at the last minute) had taken the photo.

Kanye explained, “Let me tell you something about that kiss photo that my girl put up … this was pissing my girl off during the honeymoon, she was exhausted because we worked on the photo so much because Annie Leibovitz pulled out right before the wedding. I think that she was, like, scared of the idea of celebrity.”

“Because Annie pulled out, I was like, ‘Okay, I still want my wedding photos to look like Annie Leibovitz,’ and we sat there and worked on that photo for, like, four days because the flowers were off-color.

“Can you imagine telling someone who wants to just Instagram a photo, who’s the No. 1 person on Instagram, ‘We need to work on the color of the flower wall,’ or the idea that it’s a Givenchy dress, and it’s not about the name Givenchy, it’s about the talent that is Riccardo Tisci — and how important Kim is to the Internet.

“And the fact the No. 1 most-liked photo [on Instagram] has a kind of aesthetic was a win for what the mission is, which is raising the palette.

9-Year-Old Jaden Newman Getting Recruited By The University Of Miami

If you’re unfamiliar with little Jaden Newman, you should quickly get familiar! The future WNBA star is a prodigy who plays for a Varsity basketball team and is getting recruited by the University of Miami at just 9-years-old.

USA Today reports: 

Jaden Newman isn’t a normal girls basketball player. The 9-year-old earned national headlines in January for playing on her school’s varsity high school basketball team while still in fourth grade. Yet she’s now getting attention of a more formal kind that raises even more eyebrows: She’s being formally recruited by a major collegiate program.

Earlier in June, Newman received an official recruiting letter from the University of Miami’s girls basketball program. The Miami recruiting efforts have been led by assistant coach Derrick Gibbs, beginning with a phone call to the Newman family through Jaden Newman’s Downey Christian School. Given that she is coached by her father, it wasn’t too hard to get in touch with the youngster’s family, and shortly thereafter she was sent the recruiting packet that you see in the photo below by the Miami coaching staff. All of these recruiting contacts and timeline were confirmed by Newman’s father, Jamie Newman, in an email exchange and interview with USA Today.

On June 10, Jaden Newman took an unofficial recruiting visit to Miami, where she toured the program’s facilities and got to mug inside the Miami “U”, among other experiences.

Keep in mind, Newman is just 9-years-old. Most 9-year-olds are thrilled spending summers at various camps; Newman is visiting potential college locations. She may just be the youngest athlete to ever be formally recruited by a major college program.

Michigan Man Arrested After Throwing Contraband-Stuffed Football Over Prison Wall

Putting those HS Football skills to good use…a 22-year-old man successfully threw a little prison care package – a football stuffed with heroin, weed, and cell phones – over the wall at a Michigan correctional facility. Unfortunately he didn’t get to crank a celebratory end-zone dance, as his little stunt was immediately spotted by prison guards and he was taken into custody. Via The Smoking Gun:

A Detroit man with a suspect throwing arm is facing felony charges for attempting to toss a football stuffed with narcotics and cell phones over a fence and into the exercise yard of a Michigan state prison, investigators report.

The alleged smuggling bid literally fell short Sunday morning when the football landed between two fences at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson, a city about 40 miles west of Ann Arbor.

According to police, a corrections officer spotted Christen Deon-Sterling Moore exit a vehicle and toss the football toward the yard. Moore, 22, was then taken into custody by the prison officer.

A subsequent examination of the football revealed that it contained marijuana, heroin, tobacco and three cell phones with chargers. As seen in the above Michigan Department of Corrections evidence photo, the football landed on a pathway adjacent to the prison yard.

Moore, pictured at right, was charged with three counts of furnishing contraband to inmates. It is unclear who was the intended recipient of the football’s illegal contents.

Arraigned today on the felony charges, Moore is locked up in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Well at least he can hang out with his friends now. Maybe they’ll call him “Johnny Football” in the clink?
