Unilever Popsicle Brand Sues Over Bomb Pop Copying Firecracker Ices
According to NY Post reports:
Consumer-goods giant Unilever alleges that family-owned Wells Enterprises is trying to peddle its familiar, red-white-and-blue frozen treats by tricking people into thinking they’re part of Unilever’s family of Popsicles, Creamsicles and Fudgsicles.
Unilever markets its own rival brand of tri-colored ices under the name “Firecracker,” and says it’s rung up “many millions of dollars in sales in the United States since 1989.”
According to Unilever, Wells — which also sells “Blue Bunny”-brand ice cream — recently began producing new boxes of Bomb Pops that lift “inherently distinctive” elements from the Firecracker boxes, including a red-and-blue oval that “was clearly designed to emulate plaintiff’s Popsicle logo.”
“To further promote consumer confusion, defendant has also removed its Wells’ ‘Blue Bunny’ house mark from the new packaging of its Bomb Pop products, thereby increasing the likelihood that consumers will confuse Bomb Pops products with Unilever’s products,” court papers charge.
The Manhattan federal court suit, which was made public Monday, accuses Iowa-based Wells of unfair competition, deceptive trade practices and “trade dress” infringement.
It seeks a court order barring Wells from imitating any of the Firecracker box designs, a recall of all the allegedly copycat packaging and promotional materials, and unspecified damages.
Dang… Does this seem petty or legit to you? We guess the ripping off of the logo definitely seems shady but it seems like “grocery store brands” follow this methodology all the time with all sorts of products.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed Engaged To Longtime Girlfriend Sarah-Elizabeth Langford
According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is engaged to developer Sarah-Elizabeth Langford and the couple is expecting their first child, a spokeswoman for the mayor announced Monday.
Reed, 44, proposed to Langford, 35, while vacationing in the Bahamas last weekend, officials said.
“I could not feel more blessed that she agreed to marry me, and we look forward to building a family together in the greatest city in America,” Reed said in a statement Monday morning. “I am honored to have our friends and family share this special moment with us and I ask that our privacy is respected as we celebrate this personal occasion.”
Monday’s news comes after months of speculation that Reed, elected to his second term as mayor last fall, and Langford are expecting a child and planning to wed.
Langford is the daughter of two prominent Atlantans: former City Attorney Susan Pease Langford and the late State Sen. Arthur Langford, for whom several Atlanta landmarks are named.
A former Miss District of Columbia, Langford is also a graduate of the University of Michigan and Howard University School of Law, Reed’s alma mater.
She’s now employed by National Church Residences, a senior housing nonprofit, and through NCR has worked with the City of Atlanta on housing developments, according to documents obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution through an open records request.
Just three months ago, Ambassador Andrew Young publicly urged Reed to propose to his long-time public girlfriend. It’s unknown when the couple plans to wed. The marriage will be the first for both.

A terminally ill California man who is dying from stage 4 Cancer went the extra mile to grant his 11-year-old daughter’s wish of having him walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

A dying California man staged a wedding for his 11-year-old daughter so he would have the chance to walk her down the aisle, the Press-Enterprise reported.
Jim Zetz, 62, has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and won’t live long enough to see his daughter Josie’s real wedding. So for Josie’s birthday, Zetz staged a wedding in their backyard with the help of friends and family, who came together to plan the event in just 72 hours.
Lindsey Villatoro, a photographer, helped coordinate the ceremony.
“I have an 11-year-old daughter and knew Josie’s birthday was coming up,” Villatoro told the Press Enterprise. “I also knew it would be the last birthday with her dad. If I was Josie, this would be the best gift anyone could give.”
Gary Galbraith, a pastor, officiated the ceremony, during which Zetz walked his daughter down the aisle and gave her a promise ring.
“Your dad may not get to see you get married, but he is here to walk you down the aisle today,” Galbraith said. “The daddy and daughter relationship is one of the most special relationships in life.”
Though the ceremony was emotional, Zetz said he was happy he was able to create a special memory for his daughter.
“Down the road this will mean a lot to her,” Zetz said. “She will always remember it.”
What an awesome memory this little girl will have of her father.

Seen On The Scene: August Alsina, J. Cole And Wiz Khalifa Hit Supper Club In LA
August Alsina got support from some of your fave rappers at Supper Club last evening. Leading promotion team, Supreme Team LA, brought R&B’s newest sensation, August Alsina to host Supperclub Tuesdays in Hollywood. The ladies were excited as August hit the stage to perform his certified gold hit single, “I Love This Sh*t”.
August has been taking over the South with his slow, seductive sound but he brought his charm to LA for one night only! It seems the newcomer has some big fans as Wiz Khalifa and J Cole both hit the club to just to turn up with August.

Popular ATL Scripper Angela Rabotte AKA “Climax” Missing! Alleged Kidnapper Arrested On Instagram! [Video]
Gwinnett police are looking for a 26-year-old woman who hasn’t been seen since early Saturday morning.
Police said Angela Rabotte was last seen in the parking lot of the Steeplechase Apartments in unincorporated Norcross about 6 a.m. Rabotte hasn’t been seen or heard from since that time, and authorities said foul play has not been ruled out.
Rabotte dropped off her 3-year-old daughter with a friend Friday before heading to a party in Atlanta later that evening, police said.
Friends and authorities searched the wooded area around the apartments but found nothing of note, according to a news release from the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Rabotte is described as 4-foot-11 and approximately 120 pounds, with long hair that is black with blonde tips.
Anyone with information about Rabotte should call Gwinnett County police at 770-513-5300.

You Mad? Bitter White Columnist Pens Pathetic Op-Ed Criticizing Celebration Of Black Teen Who Got Accepted To All 8 Ivy League Schools
White Columnist Criticizes Public Celebration Of Black Teen’s Ivy League Acceptance
Earlier this week, we reported on the remarkable story of Ghanian Long Island high school student Kwasi Enin who has been making headlines non-stop since recently being accepted into all 8 of the top Ivy League schools in the United States.
Naturally, the story drew much media attention and plenty of well-deserved congratulatory sentiments from the public as they joined in to celebrate this extraordinary young man for his outstanding academic achievement. However, in the midst of all the celebrating, one white female Washington Post education reporter by the name of Valerie Strauss decided put on her best editorial troll hat and pen a bitter, anti-progressive article about why communities should refrain from boasting about scholarly students who gain acceptance into prestigious schools out of respect for those students who aspire to attend such institutions but don’t get accepted.
And no, this is not a late April fools joke. This bitter, babbling shady lady is absolutely serious.
As if downplaying Kwasi’s noteworthy achievement while failing to recognize the significance of young black men being nationally recognized for excelling academically weren’t enough, Strauss also took a shot at 17-year-old Avery Coffey, another young black male student from Washington, D.C. who was recently accepted into 5 of the 8 Ivy League schools.
In addition to overly saturating her article with statistics and lame justifications for why the public should move on and “stop talking about” the achievements of these two young black scholars, Strauss later went on to emphasize how “admission to a school doesn’t mean that a particular student is “better” than other applicants but that he/she fits into a particular spot in the college’s overall demographics scheme.” Translation: Kwasi and Avery should attribute their overwhelming Ivy League welcome to the fact that they’re black and not much else because there’s a slim chance that they’re actually smarter, more qualified or better students than “those” around them.
We seriously couldn’t add anymore more foolery or less logic to this woman’s train of thought if we tried.
Congratulations again to both Kwasi and Avery on their monumental achievements that we hope will be celebrated for YEARS to come.
