Director Lee Daniels Tells Gotham Awards Audience “Shut The Fawk Up,” Admits He Became “Very Angry At White People” While Researching ‘The Butler’

Lee Daniels don’t hold no cut cards! “The Butler” director went off on the noisy audience at Monday night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards and later admitted he’d felt some anger toward white folks after doing research for his latest film project.

According to Deadline reports:

The Coen brothers‘ Inside Llewyn Davis won Best Feature tonight at the fourth annual IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards but lost some of the spotlight to presenter Lee Daniels, who made some eyebrow-raising remarks. Kicking off awards season in NYC, the trophy show propelled the CBS period folk music drama and Fruitvale Station, Dallas Buyers Club, and docu The Act of Killing toward the Oscars. The raucous audience at Cipriani Wall Street chattered so loudly during Daniels’ tribute speech to his The Butler star Forest Whitaker that he tried to shush them with a few f-bombs. Gotham Awards 2013 “Forest would like to hear all you talking through my speech, so shut the f*ck up,” admonished Daniels.

Sounds like a little cussing was in order.

It still managed to be a great night for black films with Fruitvale Station taking Best Breakthrough Director for Ryan Coogler and Best Breakthrough Actor for Michael B. Jordan.

Lee Daniels also credited Forest Whitaker with helping him deal with his “angry black man” issue:

After telling the Gothams crowd to STFU, Daniels shared high praise for friend and collaborator Whitaker. “When I did research for The Butler I became very angry at white people. That shit ain’t funny because it’s not funny what happened. … The lesson I learned when I did The Butler was that Forest told me to keep my anger in, to not be a stereotypical angry black man. Because if I were angry and I saw racism, then it became real. I had to step above it and pretend it wasn’t there. How do you tell your 17-year-old son that you can’t go into a 7-Eleven because you’re African-American and a dude? But Forest helped me through that. He taught me a lot.”

Yeah we can definitely relate to everything Lee is talking about, how about you?

An East St. Louis woman predicted her own death on Facebook five days before she was stabbed to death.

“SOOOOOOOO IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ME TONIGHT JUST LET MY KIDS KNOW I LOVED THEM DEARLY AND TELL MY MOMMA I LOVE HER,” Michelle Rowling, 25, wrote on Facebook on Nov. 25.

The following Saturday cops found her dead in her apartment, stabbed multiple times.

FB warning

Police are searching for Rowling’s ex-boyfriend, Montrell Cooper, 25, who threatened to kill her while he was behind bars, Fox 2 in St. Louis reported.

East St. Louis Chief of Police Michael Floore told the Daily News that the day of the ominous post Rowling had learned Cooper had just been released from jail for assaulting her in August.

“It’s been an ongoing situation between them,” said Floores. “He stabbed her in the neck in 2012. Then he jumped on her again in August. Then he got out of jail.”

Melissa De Sousa Covers Rolling Out Magazine

Best Man Holiday actress Melissa De Sousa is glad to be back in the limelight and enjoying the success of the much anticipated Best Man film sequel since it’s release last month.  Melissa recently sat down with Rolling Out Magazine for a quick chat about the state of black films today, her experiences as a minority actress in Hollywood and more.

Check out a few interview excerpts below.

via Rolling Out

What’s the difference — positive or negative — in black cinema now and 15 years ago?
I think it’s positive. We had to start somewhere. Those stories in the past needed to be told. Everything gets better with time. I feel like now it’s getting back to those great [director] Spike Lee days, more diverse, more intelligent [films].

You shouldn’t underestimate your audience. I feel like it’s changing for the better. There are roles for all types of movies.  I mean you still want to watch the urban movies and they need to be told. You still want to see something you haven’t seen before. Like everyday movies like The Best Man. The movie didn’t have to be played by African American people; it is a movie that everyone can relate to.

You have a unique look. Have there been any advantages or disadvantages in getting parts and dealing with Hollywood?
Tons of rejection … [so] much I can’t even count. I mean most of the time [I get] more “nos” than “yeses.” I never really had anyone say anything real horrible to me. I had to prove myself.

I remember when I auditioned for Hustle & Flow, which is the one [movie] Terrence got his nomination for. You know they thought I was “too pretty” and I wouldn’t be able to play a down-on-her luck s*ripper. But I begged them to see me. You know I went in and did my thing. I ended up screen-testing. The person who got it was Paula Jai Parker. I think Regina Hall also screen-tested. You know I had to fight for them to even look at me in that way, because they thought I was too nice and would not be able to get gritty and dirty.

You have to prove yourself because people always want to put you in a box. I am just the one not to do that to.

Melissa also opened up about the low points in her career after the first Best Man film and even admitted to collecting unemployment at one point. Hit the flip to read about that and check out a few more pics from her Rolling Out spread.

Former NBA player Keon Clark has received an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to two charges.

Clark has been in the Vermilion County jail since Aug. 4. He faced weapon, drug and traffic-related charges. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to weapons and driving under the influence charges in two separate cases. Edgar County Circuit Judge Matthew Sullivan signed off on Clark’s plea agreement with prosecutors.

The 38-year-old Danville native and UNLV alum was 23 when he became the 13th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft. The News-Gazette in Champaign reported he tearfully said in court that he has to own up to his past.

Defense attorneys requested that the judge recommend Clark serve time at a state Department of Corrections drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility outside Chicago.

Keon was no hall or famer or anything, but to go from the NBA to prison is

What would you do with an extra $47 million?

Woman Loses Lotto Ticket But Finds Out It’s Worth $47 Million

Via Gawker reports:

Man, if I had $47 million for every time I lost a lottery ticket, I’d be Kathryn Jones.

Jones, of Hamilton, Ontario, purchased a Lotto Max ticket over a year ago, and then promptly lost it.

She had completely forgotten about it until last week, when lottery officials showed up at her door just two days before the claim cutoff to tell her she’d won the jackpot: $50 million (~US$47 million).

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) spent many long months waiting for the winning ticket holder to come forward until, one day, a false claim inadvertently led them to the convenience store where Jones bought her ticket.

A lengthy investigation was launched involving surveillance footage, time stamps, and credit card receipts that ultimately led OLG investigators to Jones’s house.

“We weren’t sure we wanted to let them in the house,” Jones told CBC News. “Then they showed us their ID, so they came in and sat down and started asking a number of questions.”

After confirming Jones’s identity, OLG’s agents informed her she had just spent the past year being an unwitting millionaire.

“I feel almost as though I have been struck by lightning twice because first to win is pretty incredible, but then to lose a ticket and then to have OLG find me and take the initiative to actually contact me is also pretty incredible,” Jones told reporters at a Tuesday press conference.

Jones will have to wait another 30 days in order to collect her prize, but what’s another 30 days.

Must be nice!!

Hackers Steal 2 Million Facebook And Gmail Passwords

Hide ya kids, hide ya wife…..and change ya passwords. Hackers are on the loose.

via CNN

Hackers have stolen usernames and passwords for nearly two million accounts at Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo and others, according to a report released this week.

The massive data breach was a result of keylogging software maliciously installed on an untold number of computers around the world, researchers at cybersecurity firm Trustwave said. The virus was capturing log-in credentials for key websites over the past month and sending those usernames and passwords to a server controlled by the hackers.

On Nov. 24, Trustwave researchers tracked that server, located in the Netherlands. They discovered compromised credentials for more than 93,000 websites.

Sounds like everybody better get to changing their passwords quick fast and in a hurry..

Nelson Mandela’s Family Says He’s “Not Doing Well”

Nelson Mandela has been battling a serious illness since earlier this year and his family says that while he continues to stay strong, he’s not doing too well.

via Fox News

Ailing former South African President Nelson Mandela is not “doing well” but is continuing to put up a courageous fight from his “deathbed,” members of his family have told the South African Broadcasting Corporation in an interview.

His daughter, Makaziwe Mandela, told SABC television news: “Tata is still with us, strong, courageous. Even for a lack of a better word …. on his ‘deathbed’ he is teaching us lessons; lessons in patience, in love, lessons of tolerance.

“Every moment I get with him I’m amazed. There are times where I have to pinch myself that I come from this man who is a fighter even though you can see he is struggling, but fighting spirit is still there with him.”

Mandela spent almost three months in a Pretoria hospital after being admitted in June with a recurring lung infection. The 95-year-old liberation struggle icon was discharged in September and has been receiving home-based medical attention since then.

We will continue to keep Nelson Mandela and his family in our prayers.
