African School Poses Offense Test Question About The Rape of A Baby

In a country that that has one of the world’s highest rates of sexual violence, South Africans were angered by a drama school exam that asked 12th-graders how they would stage the rape of a baby using a loaf of bread and a broomstick.

Parents and students said they were repelled by the question. Rape counselors said the query was insensitive and inappropriate. Eureka Olivier, of the child rights advocacy group Bobbi Bear, said she was “absolutely disgusted.”

Author Lara Foot Newton, whose play “Baby Tshepang,” was the genesis of the drama question, called the exam entry “insensitive” and said, “It’s inappropriate for a drama student to have to answer that kind of question at that (grade) level,” the BBC reported Wednesday.

Her award-winning play was about the real-life rape of a 9-month-old baby by the mother’s boyfriend.

South Africa’s Education Department defended the exam, saying the question was solely intended to be symbolic, and to illustrate the country’s longstanding problem of rape and child molestation. One in four men admit to committing rape, according to the Medical Research Council of the South African Police Service.

“Nowhere is it expected of the candidate to have to literally describe the actual act of raping a 9-month-old baby,” the department said in a statement.

Regardless of how you slice it, it was still a pretty sick question to ask.

Yale Professor Found Dead In Jail Cell

This is sad.

According to NBC Connecticut:

New Haven detectives are investigating the sudden death of a Yale professor who was being held in a cell at the Union Avenue Detention Facility.

Police said Samuel See, 34, of New Haven was arrested on Saturday night. On Sunday, he was found unresponsive in his cell and later pronounced deceased.

Police went to See’s home after receiving a complaint of a domestic dispute at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, See’s husband, Saunder Ganglani, 32, of New Haven, had gone to See’s home to retrieve his belongings despite a protective order that was in place.

Ganglani told officers that he’d spent about two and a half hours at the house on Saturday before police responded.

Officers charged Ganglani with violating the protective order and spoke with See, who told police to remove Ganglani from the home, police said.

As officers were speaking with See, they mentioned there is also a protective order filed for See to stay away from Ganglani and See “became enraged,” police said.

He yelled that it was his house, said he shouldn’t be arrested and fought with the officers when they tried handcuffing him.

As he was being brought to the cruiser, he yelled “I will kill you. … I will destroy you,” to one of the officers, police said.

See had suffered a cut over his eye and police called for EMS to evaluate him, police said.

An ambulance transported See to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was treated.

After being released, he was placed in police custody, taken to the detention facility and charged with violating a protective order, interfering with Police and threatening in the second degree.

Detectives from the New Haven Police Department are investigating the death.

“Mr. Samuel See was delivered to the detention center on Nov. 23 at approximately 9:10 p.m. by New Haven Police and was alert and communicating with Judicial Marshals throughout his detainment until Marshals assigned to the detention center found him non-responsive in his cell at approximately 6 a.m. on Nov. 24. Marshals immediately provided CPR and other lifesaving efforts, until relieved by New Haven Fire and Rescue,” Rhonda Stearley-Hebert, program manager of communications for the Connecticut Judicial Branch, said in an e-mailed statement.

See was an assistant professor of English and American Studies who was on leave this semester.

“The University community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Samuel See. Our condolences go out to his family, faculty colleagues, and students, and his friends at Yale and elsewhere,” a statement from Yale says.

The situation seems a little fishy. If he was found unresponsive in his cell, he either committed suicide or someone put hands on him.

The now single housewife states that she’s keeping Stewart’s name despite the fact that he chose to divorce her. But in her co-star NeNe Leakes’ eyes, Stewart is holding on too much and she needs to let go of Kordell’s name to be free of him.

During a recent interview on “The Wendy Williams Show,” Porsha explained that she was keeping the name because she felt it represented the woman she’d become.

“I’m going to keep Stewart. It’s not his name. It’s my name. I was Porsha Williams and I was at one point in my life before I got married. Marriage has taught me so much. I’m a whole ‘nother woman now,” she told Wendy Williams earlier in November. “So, I’m going to own that last name. It belongs to me.”

But in Leakes’ most recent Bravo TV blog, she addressed Porsha’s divorce drama and advised the younger housewife to drop Kordell’s name and reclaim her own name and life.

“This situation with Porsha and Kordell has totally gotten out of hand! I hate when a couple breaks up and they just sling dirt on each other. When we met Porsha, she claimed to be living a fabulous, loving life with Kordell and now it’s all a lie. I’m not involved in their relationship, but I can say it’s sad to hear all the negativity.

If you are so done with Kordell, be done with his last name as well. You guys don’t have children together, so why hold on to something that was negative for you?” Leakes asked in the post.

Hopefully, after Porsha meets some new men she will follow Nene’s advice.

Student Accused Of Setting Teacher On Fire

Poor teacher was already underpaid and then she got set on fire. Dayum.

According to WBIR:

A Knox County student is accused of trying to set his teacher on fire.

According to Knoxville Police, officers were called to West High School around 10:45 Monday morning. Investigators said teacher Gabriela Penalba, 23, had turned her back to the class while teaching when a 15-year-old male student used a cigarette lighter to set her shirt and hair on fire.

Other students helped extinguish the fire, and Penalba was not burned. When she left the classroom, the student tried to dispose of the lighter by throwing it out a window.

The student tried to run from police, but was caught on a nearby greenway. He was charged in juvenile court with aggravated assault and evading arrest.

Girl Will Not Face Expulsion Over Natural Hair

Kids come to school to learn. The focus shouldn’t be on hair, but on preparing these students to be productive members in society.

According to Click Orlando:

A Central Florida teen told Local 6 on Monday she faced expulsion because administrators at her private school wanted her to cut and shape her hair. But a day later, administrators appeared to have changed their mind, saying she will not be expelled.

Vanessa VanDyke said she was given one week to decide to whether cut her hair or leave Faith Christian Academy in Orlando, a school she’s been going to since the third grade.

But for now, she and her mother do not plan to change her hair because it is part of the 12-year-old’s identity. But her natural hair style comes with a cost.

“It says that I’m unique,” said VanDyke. “First of all, it’s puffy and I like it that way. I know people will tease me about it because it’s not straight. I don’t fit in.”

VanDyke said that first the teasing came from other students, but now, school leaders seem to be singling her out for her appearance.

Faith Christian Academy has a dress code and rules against how students can wear their hair. The student handbook reads: “Hair must be a natural color and must not be a distraction,” and goes on to state examples that include, but are not limited to, mohawks, shaved designs and rat tails.

Doesn’t make any sense.

“A distraction to one person is not a distraction to another,” said VanDyke’s mother, Sabrina Kent. “You can have a kid come in with pimples on his face. Are you going to call that a distraction?”

VanDyke said she’s had her large, natural hair all year long, but it only became an issue after the family complained about students teasing her about her hair.

“There have been bullies in the school,” said Kent. “There have been people teasing her about her hair, and it seems to me that they’re blaming her.”

“I’m depressed about leaving my friends and people that I’ve known for a while, but I’d rather have that than the principals and administrators picking on me and saying that I should change my hair,” said VanDyke.

“I’m going to fight for my daughter,” Kent said. “If she wants her hair like that, she will keep her hair like that. There are people out there who may think that natural hair is not appropriate. She is beautiful the way she is.”

School administrators told Local 6 in a statement on Tuesday, “we’re not asking her to put products in her hair or cut her hair. We’re asking her to style her hair within the guidelines according to the school handbook.”

Vanessa and her mother will be discussing her hairstyle over Thanksgiving as school is in recess until Monday.

Brooke Mueller Accuses Denise Richards Of Child Abuse

Denise said Brooke’s kids were the ones who were abusive. Something is not adding up.

According to TMZ:

Brooke Mueller has just declared nuclear war in her child custody dispute with Charlie Sheen — she’s accused Denise Richards of abusing her twins and the 2 other daughters Denise had with Charlie … sources tell TMZ.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … cops came to Denise’s door Tuesday night and told her they were there to question her about a child abuse claim lodged by Brooke. Denise did not let them inside because her daughters were there.

We’re told Denise walked outside and told cops the claim was “ridiculous” and “vindictive” — that the L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services was already handling the dispute … a dispute that started after Brooke was stripped of custody after a raging drug problem flared up yet again.

Sources say Brooke’s latest claim will have dire consequences, especially if it’s false, because Denise’s daughters and the twins will be grilled about the allegations — something that is ALWAYS emotionally traumatizing.

We’re told Richards made it clear — she hasn’t even seen the twins for 2 weeks, so if Brooke really had a gripe why didn’t she lodge it earlier. Also, Brooke has not had contact with Denise’s daughters, so the claim is suspicious.

Th adults in this situation need to get it together because the children deserve better.

A woman who served as a special counsel for NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly [pictured above] claims she was terminated from the position at a leading security firm for standing up for a Black colleague in lawsuit filed on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports.

Katherine Lemire, who counseled security management team Michael Stapleton Associates, says she spoke up for Chanissa Green, an HR assistant reportedly told to not wear braids by MSA VP Of Operations Joe Atherall.

“When someone like me … sees someone with a style like that, we think ghetto – not professional,” the suit quotes Atherall as having told Green, an African-American. He also allegedly promoted an Eurocentric standard of beauty.

“I’ll tell you what’s beautiful: my daughter, with blond hair and blue eyes,” he allegedly said.

Just plain ridiculous. SMH.

Sivohaugn Wade Rejects Divorce Agreement

Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade‘s ex-wife just fired her 12th lawyer — and filed an appeal in Chicago to declare the former lovebirds’ divorce agreement null and void!

It’s another Gossip Extra Heat exclusive: Siovaughn Funches, the ex-Mrs. Wade, filed her intention to appeal a family court’s ratification of a deal allegedly reached by Wade’s lawyers and her attorney in July.

Funches says she never agreed to the highly-publicized settlement and never even signed it.

And actually, she just fired Brian Hurst, the high-profile Chicago lawyer who worked on the deal that already paid her $5 million cash, among other goodies.

Hurst just said he was “terminated” but didn’t elaborate other than to say: “I’m in a result oriented business.”

In the end, Funches could conceivably be awarded more money from Wade, or she might have to return some of Wade’s millions back to him.

Funches’ remaining attorney, Boca Raton legal eagle Lisa Macci, said Funches disagreed for several items in the settlement and it was adopted by the court over her objections.

Among the items Funches disagreed with was a schedule of fines in case she were to criticize Wade in public.
