MTV’s Sway Given A 90-Inch TV By Sharp Following Kanye Comments

While taking part in a rare interview last week, noted Chi-Town rapper Kanye West made it a point to inform fans that he gave MTV personality Sway Calloway his first ever television. Thanks to Kanye’s comments, the radio host was recently gifted with a 90-inch, AQUOS flat screen TV courtesy of Sharp.
The impressive Sharp television, “the largest LED TV on the planet,” is a far cry from the throwback television Sway received from Kanye.
“I didn’t want to even call to talk about this #7 list, I just wanted to tell everybody I gave Sway his first TV — and he need to remember that,” Kanye shared during an interview earlier in the month.
As a bonus, Sway also received a remote control that will work with the 36-inch, Kanye-gifted television he’s dubbed “Sharpeezy.”

Lil Wayne‘s YMCMB family weren’t the only ones to come his defense against the reports that he was near-death last night while in the Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

Head Start To Kick 70,000 Low Income Children Out Of The Program
Recent budget cuts and sequestration will be forcing thousands of low-income, pre-school-aged children out of the popular “Head Start” schooling program and many parents and school administrators are being left to figure out what to do next.

The early childhood education program Head Start provides educational opportunities specifically to low-income kids. But 70,000 of those students will lose the opportunity to be in the program as a result of the drastic reductions in funding triggered by sequestration.
Reports are beginning to roll in about how children will bear the brunt of Congressional inaction. In several states, programs have to decide where they will make the cuts. In some cases, that means picking which students will be kept in the program, and which will be forced to leave:
INDIANA: “At least two Indiana Head Start programs have resorted to a random drawing to determine which three-dozen preschool students will be removed from the education program for low-income families, a move officials said was necessary to limit the impact of mandatory across-the-board federal spending cuts. [Programs] in Columbus and Franklin are losing two classrooms, meaning 36 children won’t be able to return after Friday. [Indiana Journal Gazette, March 13, 2013.]
TENNESSEE: “A letter went out recently to parents and guardians with children in the program stating that the cuts have affected the Head Start program in several ways. One, and perhaps the move that hurts more families than any, is that all bus transportation will discontinue on March 18. The letter was sent out shortly after the sequestration took place on March 1 to give the parents a couple of weeks to try to find alternate means of transportation. WASHINGTON: ‘We’ll [lose] money for the child care food program. And there may be dollars lost from our partnership with the Spokane School District for serving kids with disabilities,’ said [The Director of Program Services, David Colburn] Colburn.[...] Spokane Head Start currently serves 900 families and there are a thousand more on the waiting list. It’s so unfortunate that essential programs like these are some of the first to take the biggest hits every year as a result of federal and/or state budget cuts. Hopefully something can be worked out to minimize this trend ASAP.

SMH: Pastor Demands Apology After Chubby Lumpkins Gov. Chris Christie Calls Black NJ State Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver Out Of Her Name!
C’mon son. If a black politician said “our fat white governor…” it would have been a problem. New Jersey governor Chris Christie is under fire again, this time for referring to New Jersey’s first black female leader of the state Assembly using her race and gender instead of her name!

Republican Gov. Chris Christie has been asked to apologize for referring to the first black female leader of the state Assembly by race and gender, not by name, during a church-hosted meeting.
Christie, who’s white, told an audience Tuesday that an “African-American female speaker of the Assembly” is blocking a vote on a school voucher bill that would let children in failing districts attend classes elsewhere.
Democratic Speaker Sheila Oliver later said she was “appalled” that Christie injected race into the discussion on education. Oliver, who represents a district with some failing schools, has said she believes the state should make a larger investment in public education.
On Thursday, the pastor whose church hosted the meeting asked Christie to apologize. He said the governor was disrespectful to the speaker and missed a chance to unite the community.
“I was and am saddened by the governor’s blatant attack (on the speaker),” said Kenneth Clayton, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Paterson. “The words that the governor chose to use in speaking of Oliver, while not even respecting her enough to call her by name, defy his earlier assertion that political leaders, himself included, need to learn to respect all views and work together.”
A Christie spokesman said the governor’s comments were misinterpreted.
The flap comes at an inopportune time for Christie, who has been courting the black and Latino vote for his re-election bid in November.
It’s definitely disrespectful, but do you think the pastor made too big of a deal out of this? Or was Christie merely trying to point out that Oliver wasn’t protecting her own?

A letter written from a dad to his gay son Nate is going viral on the Internet because of its simple, hopeful message of love.
“I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me,” it reads. “The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I’ve known you were gay since you were six, I’ve loved you since you were born.”
He signs it “Dad” and finishes with a post script: “Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.”
The letter was posted on the Facebook page of FCKH8.com, an organization aimed at empowering youth through its snarky, gay-positive T-shirts, videos and activist campaigns. Fans often send in photos of inspiring items, from cakes topped with “I’m gay!” to jack o’lanterns carved with “FCKH8.”
“We get a lot of crazy stuff, so I almost didn’t look at it,” FCKH8.com founder Luke Montgomery told Yahoo! Shine about the letter, which was emailed to them by Nate, a Michigan high-school student. But when he did read it, he said, “I cried.”
Pretty touching, but could you have known about your gay son or daughter from such a young age without ever bringing it up? Or even asking??

Women Shot By LAPD Only Get Money To Replace Truck

The two women shot and wounded by Los Angeles police during the manhunt for renegade ex-officer Christopher Dorner are “not doing well,” their attorney said Thursday at a news conference to announce a resolution to the loss of their bullet-riddled pickup truck.
Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, will receive $40,000 to replace the truck, Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said.
Carranza and Hernandez were shot as police searched for Dorner, a former police officer who was wanted for killing several people in early February.The two women were in a truck similar to the one authorities said Dorner was driving.
“They’re not doing well,” attorney Glen Jonas said. “Margie is still very emotionally impacted by what happened. Emma is suffering as far as her injuries are concerned.”
Hernandez was shot twice in the back, and Carranza suffered injuries from broken glass, CNN affiliate KTLA reported.
Trutanich told reporters that now that the issues with the truck are settled, lawyers can turn their attention to the personal injury issues.
The lawyers said they had to find a creative solution to get the women a new truck because of tax laws. Essentially the $40,000 is for the value of the truck, Jonas’ fees, compensation for the time the women have gone without a truck and other matters.
Jonas waived his fees, which would have amounted to about $25,000, he said.
“We wanted to get this issue resolved because it is draining a lot of energy,” Jonas said.

Assemblyman Steve Katz was charged after a Thursday morning traffic stop, according to a report by the Albany Times Union.
Police said the 59-year-old Katz was driving 80 mph on a toll road near Coeymans, N.Y.
State troopers said they smelled marijuana and found a small bag of the drug.
Katz serves on the Assembly’s Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee and its Higher Education Committee.
The Times Union reported that Katz voted against a bill that would have legalized medical marijuana last year.
Katz ran unsuccessfully for state Senate last year.
SMH!! Wait a minute, we find it hard to believe he was stoned and driving 80MPH. Now, if they popped him for under the minimum speed limit…

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) — who is spending millions of taxpayer dollars opposing marriage equality — told ABC’s This Week that he could never see himself supporting same-sex unions, despite the growing evolution towards marriage for all within the Republican Party.
Responding to Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) change of heart on the issue, Boehner said that he “appreciates” his friend’s new position, but insisted that “I believe that marriage is a union of a man and a woman” and predicted that he would not change his mind even if he found out that his own son is gay:
Martha Raddatz asked Bohenher: “Can you imagine yourself in a situation where you reversed your decision as Portman has on gay marriage if a child of yours or someone you love told you they were gay.”
Boehner: “Listen, I believe marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It’s what I grew up with, it’s what i belive, it’s what my church teaches me and I can’t imagine that position would ever change.”
