Lupita Nyong’o Exposes Harvey Weinstein For Coming On To Her
Man, is there any Hollywood actress that Harvey Weinstein HASN’T tried?
Amid a swarm of starlets coming out with their stories of sexual harassment, misconduct, and even assault at the hands of the Hollywood bigwig…Lupita Nyong’o has now shared a story of her own run-in with Harvey to the New York Times.
The incident(s) she speaks about came while she was still an acting student at Yale School of Drama looking for her big break, and thought that she was fortunate to cross paths with “the most powerful producer in Hollywood” at an awards ceremony in Berlin.
After meeting him in the daytime at a busy restaurant — where he repeatedly tried to pressure her into drinking alcohol, even though she declined multiple times — she was invited to his home to view a film in his theater, alongside multiple members of his staff and family, including his wife and small children. Things seemed completely professional and on the up-and-up, but only for a short while.
About 15 minutes into the movie, Harvey pulled Lupita aside and said he wanted to show her something. Wary of the situation, she told him she would rather finish the movie, but he insisted they would be right back.
Harvey led me into a bedroom — his bedroom — and announced that he wanted to give me a massage. I thought he was joking at first. He was not. For the first time since I met him, I felt unsafe. I panicked a little and thought quickly to offer to give him one instead: It would allow me to be in control physically, to know exactly where his hands were at all times.
Part of our drama school curriculum at Yale included body work, using massage techniques on one another to understand the connection between body, mind and emotion, and so I felt I could rationalize giving him one and keep a semblance of professionalism in spite of the bizarre circumstance. He agreed to this and lay on the bed. I began to massage his back to buy myself time to figure out how to extricate myself from this undesirable situation. Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants. I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that. “If we’re not going to watch the film, I really should head back to school,” I said.
Thankfully, Lupita was able to assert herself and wiggle out of that one…but she had two more run-ins with Harvey over the years, culminating in him flat out asking her to come to his room and get down in the interest of securing guaranteed significant roles in big films. She, of course, declined, and has refused to accept a role in any Weinstein production ever since — despite multiple offers.
Sheesh! Good for Lupita for making it to the big time without Harvey’s “help.”
