Garbine Muguruza Comes Out Victorious Over Venus Williams

Garbine Muguruza came out on top at Wimbledon, winning her second career Grand Slam title over Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 in the Wimbledon final on Saturday. In 2015, Muguruza reached her first Grand Slam, but then fell to Venus’ sister Serena Williams in straight sets. The next year, she won her first Grand Slam title in the French Open.

Williams held a 3-1 record against Muguruza heading into the match, but unfortunately did not come out on top this time around. The match between these two women lasted for 77-minutes, and ended with Spain’s Muguruza winning her second Grand Slam.

Venus delivered a message to Serena after the match saying, “I miss you, I tried my best to do the same things you do. I think there will be other opportunities. I do.” Her sister is at home awaiting the birth of her child and could not attend the match.

Hopefully things look up for Venus in the future, because the news has not been in her favor recently.  Congrats to Ms. Williams for making it so far, and better luck next year!

Childish Gambino’s Single Off His Latest Album Is Now Double Platinum

Memes ARE good for something, like taking a song all the way to the top. Childish Gambino’s song “Redbone” was not only popular in it’s own right, but was all over Twitter in the form of different remixes for what seems like forever. The album that the single is from, “Awaken, My Love!” was certified Gold earlier this month.

“Redbone” proves that you don’t have to be number one on the charts to be a hit, it’s now at it’s peak position at number 14; though it has been staying strong on the charts for 31 weeks now, which is an accomplishment of itself.

Not only was “Redbone’s” success undoubtedly catapulted and elongated by the internet’s obsession with “The Redbone Challenge,” but it also benefitted from being the opening track on one of this year’s biggest films, “Get Out.”

This is the first of Gambino’s singles to reach double platinum, though both “3005” and “Heartbeat” are both platinum as well. This new milestone comes after the news of Donald Glover announcing that his next album will be his last under the moniker. Talk about going out on a high note!

If we needed any more proof that Beyoncé “woke up like dis” friends are saying Beyonce’s one-month post-partum flat belly isn’t even the result of workouts.

A source close to Beyoncé tells PEOPLE the mother of three hasn’t hit the gym in the month since delivering twins — despite the trim figure she showed off on Thursday and Friday.

“Beyoncé hasn’t started to work out yet,” the source says. “She is all about recovering.”

Insane right? But most folks who are focused on weight loss know that bodies are made in the kitchen, not the gym and weight loss is 80% diet.

A Doctor In Memphis Called His Black Patient “Aunt Jemima”

And this dude got a PHD? Cuz he’s acting like a Pretty Huge D***

A woman in Memphis is filing a complaint against the state medical board after her doctor called her racially-charged names multiple times. Lexi Carter says she couldn’t believe that her dermatologist, Dr. James Turner, was calling her this, until he did it for a second time.

Carter said, “he had a young girl — physician’s assistant trainee, a student — with him, and he looked at me and he goes, ‘Hi, Aunt Jemima.’”

Here’s the kicker, the D-bag doctor even admitted to calling his patient this racially-charged reference, saying that it was all a misunderstanding. He issued this public apology: “Ms. Carter is one of our very dear patients and has been for years. She is one of many African American patients and I count it a privilege to be their doctor. Anything I said that tarnishes that image and my respect for her was a misspoken blunder on my part and was not intended to show disrespect for Ms. Carter. I am very sorry for that misunderstanding.”

We don’t accept your apology, Dr. Turner. The fact that this man felt comfortable enough to repeatedly call poor Miss Carter “Aunt Jemima” multiple times is a travesty. Hopefully his “many African american patients” take their Black dollars somewhere else and stop supporting this horrible excuse for a professional.

Donald Trump’s Administration Just Cut $200 Million From Teen Pregnancy Programs

In not so surprising news, Trump and his administration have cut a huge amount of money from funding for teen pregnancy programs, $213.6 Million to be exact. These budget cuts amount to two years’ worth of funding from five-year grants that were given to these same programs by the Obama administration two years ago, designed to help find scientifically proven ways to help teens avoid unwanted pregnancy.

The annual grant letter sent to the Federal Office of Adolescent Health this year began with the following sentence: “this award also shortens the project period to end June 30, 2018, at the end of this budget year,” though the initial end date when rewarded was said to be 2020.

Those affected by these cuts include the Chicago Department of Public Health, the University of Southern California, and the Healthy Teen Network in Baltimore.

Though teen pregnancy rates have been steadily declining since 1990, and were at a record low in 2016,  the U.S. teen pregnancy rate is still the highest among developed countries.

So shoutout to Trump and his administration for taking a step in the wrong direction and cutting spending when we really need it. Is his term over yet???

Doesn’t Add Up: Mother Shot By Minnesota Cops Under Mysterious Circumstances

A couple of Minnesota cops have A LOT of explaining to do after a woman called 911 for help and allegedly ended of being shot and killed at close range by police.

According to the Washington Post, Justine Damond, a yoga and meditation teacher from Australia and living in Minneapolis called 911 Saturday night, to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home.

The call for help came in just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. “At one point an officer fired their weapon, fatally striking a woman,” the statement said. The BCA offered few other details on what precipitated the shooting and, it said, neither of the responding officers had turned on their body cameras before the shooting. The squad car camera did not capture the incident either. Wow.

This is oddly convenient since, according to the report, all Minneapolis police officers have worn body cameras since the end of 2016. It’s policy after what happened to Philando Castile.

Three people “with knowledge of the incident” told the Star Tribune that the woman, wearing pajamas, approached the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat shot Damond through the driver’s side door, the three people told the newspaper. WOW.

Damond’s son, Zach, is now pleading on video for answer to why his mom, who was about to get married next month to her American fiance, was murdered so suddenly by police.

Sad.

Aaron Carter Said “You Won’t Catch Me Getting DUIs” Days Before Arrest

SMH… If you missed it, Aaron Carter was arrested in Habersham County, Georgia, Saturday July 15 on DUI charges. Carter, 29, reportedly refused to submit to a DUI test. Carter’s girlfriend, Madison Parker, was in the car at the time and was also arrested. On Sunday Carter posted his $4,610 bond and was released from jail. However, his girlfriend is still in jail, as she is still yet to pay her bail of $4,360. Carter is facing several misdemeanor charges including, DUI, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.
