Iman Shumpert In Legal Battle Stemming From Driving While high Arrest
Cleveland Cavilers star Iman Shumpert has been hit with more bad news.
A Georgia judge has shut down the NBA star in his legal battle over his DUI despite his pleas for his driver’s license back.
Last year, cops arrested Shumpert for driving under the influence of marijuana in Atlanta.
Police pulled Shumpert over for a lane change violation and for the taillights in his rental car not being on. Law enforcement claimed during the stop they saw his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled strongly of weed.
During the field sobriety test, the police determined the NBA star was high and he even admitted he smoked weed before leaving his “homegirl’s house”. They eventually searched his car and found a mason jar full of weed.
Shumpert refused to submit to a blood test claiming it would cause a scene due to his celebrity.
He was arrested for DUI marijuana and possession of weed of less than an ounce. He is awaiting sentencing in the criminal case.
The following month, the District Attorney official charged Shumpert with misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of drugs, marijuana possession and failure to maintain lane. He is facing up to a year in jail for the marijuana possession charge.
Here’s NBA star Iman Shumpert after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana in Fayette County, Georgia, on August 10. The 26-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers player was pulled over by cops for a lane violation and for having his tail lights out. He allegedly smelled of weed, and had bloodshot eyes, according to reports. A field sobriety test determined the athlete was impaired and cops say he admitted to smoking cannabis at a friend’s house that evening. Officers also found a small amount of the drug in the car, which was reportedly a rented Audi A3. Shumpert, who is engaged to Teyana Taylor, is charged with DUI marijuana and possession of weed (less than an ounce), as well as being cited for failure to maintain lane.Picture by: Splash News
Back in November, Shumpert filed suit against Bert Brantley, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Driver Services, demanding the decision to suspend his driver’s license over his arrest be overturned.
The NBA star explained that due to his refusal to submit to the blood test, the Commissioner suspended his license for one year. He demanded the decision to suspend his license be vacated. He accused the arresting officer of failing to inform him that by refusing the test his license would be automatically suspended for a year.
Then on June 5th, the judge came back with his final order in the case and shut down Shumpert’s demands.
The order stated that after reviewing the evidence and testimony, the decision to suspend Shumpert’s license was affirmed, meaning he won’t be driving around anytime soon. The case was closed the same day.
