Study Says Instagram Is Doing Some Work On Our Self Esteems

Instagram is THE WORST social media app for young people’s self-esteem according to a study reported by CNN. 1,500 young people, age 14 to 24 ,were tested on how certain social media platforms impacted their health and well-being. The study found that the participants dealt with issues of anxiety, depression and self-identity, as well as body image because of their profiles.

The most damaging social media platforms according to the study are Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Facebook. YouTube was shown to have positive effects on the youth’s mental health, unlike the other platforms.

Instagram draws young women to “compare themselves against unrealistic, largely curated, filtered and Photoshopped versions of reality,” Matt Keracher, author of the report, told CNN.

Well, between the stunts like the “Kylie Jenner lip challenge” across those platforms, and everyone trying to stunt on instagram like Bow wow, we could’ve guess this. We didn’t really need a study. But now that it’s confirmed, does this mean people are going to start monitoring their social media participation?

Huma Abedin Files For Divorce From Anthony Weiner

Ashy Twitter can’t use the tired and crusty “a strong woman is supposed to stand by her man” schtick with Huma Abedin. She’s stayed down with her pervert husband after MULTIPLE publicly embarrassing sex scandals. Today, that comes to an end.

The NYPost is reporting that Hillary Clinton’s former aide is finally filed dem papers to divorce her disgraced and estranged husband Anthony Weiner.

In an effort to avoid yet ANOTHER public embarrassment, Huma has filed “Anonymous vs. Anonymous” and asked that the court record be sealed. The uncontested filing should be easy, breezy and beautiful in regards to custody of their 5-year-old son, Jordan.

Because Weiner has to file with the state of New York as a sex offender, divorce lawyer Michael Stutman suggests she take all the necessary precautions:

“If Huma were my client, based upon what I have read, my advice to her would be she needs to be careful and able to demonstrate that she has acted reasonably to protect her child,” Stutman said. “You don’t leave him alone with the kid when you’re out of town. You have a nanny. You have Grandmom and Grandpa come over.”

She’s a lot better than we are for sticking around after the first scandal. Hopefully she and Jordan can find peace in Weiner’s absence.

Yara Shahidi Gets ‘Black-Ish’ Spinoff

Good news for “Black-ish” fans!

ABC has greenlit a spinoff of the top-rated show starring Yara Shahidi and Deon Cole. Yara’s new show, “College-ish” will follow Zoey as she journeys to college and figures out life after leaving home. The show will focus on issues facing students and administration in today’s higher learning settings.

The show will appear on FreeForm. Black-ish executive producer Kenya Barris tells Deadspin he couldn’t be happier about the new show:

“I never thought they’d let me put Black-ish on the air, let alone give me a spin-off. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to continue working with Yara and the rest of this talented young cast. To any aspiring writers struggling to make it out there, I highly advise adding an ‘-ish’ to any working title you might have. It seems to be the move.”

“It’s Friday. You ain’t got no job and you ain’t got s* to do!” Do you remember the first time you saw Chris Tucker cut up in Friday, Mike Epps act a fool in Next Friday or Katt Williams get his pimpin’ on in Friday After Next? Well the saga continues and ends with the final chapter coming soon. Ice Cube made an appearance on The Late Show and confirmed that a fourth Friday is coming to a theatre near us.

“We’re working on one right now,” Cube told James Corden, “We’re going to call it Last Friday.”

That’s a clever name, right? The original Friday debuted in 1995 and has been dubbed a classic ever since. John Witherspoon mentioned that there was a fourth film in the works during a radio interview last month, but it’s nice to hear it coming straight from the horse’s mouth. Hopefully, we’ll get to see cast members from all of the Friday’s. Will you be watching?

A few updates on "king Of NY" Mural: we just want everyone to know that Spread Art NYC, your humble community Art organization has been working real hard to keep this mural up for the past year! Landlord always calls us and Claims that the neighbors are complaining about the mural and the crowds it attracts. About 4 months ago, he told us about the construction he will be doing which will damage the mural in the process. He will be opening Windows on the wall to increase rent profit by $500 according to them. Today Spread Art NYC offered $5000 (which we planned to gather from the community and the fans) not to open the windows. Unfortunately, that offer was declined and it was answered by a counteroffer of $1250 a month. At this point, there is nothing Spread Art NYC can do to save this mural. We will continue to serve our neighborhoods regardless!! Community is our goal, we like to give back and we thought A biggie mural at the corner of #bedfordandquincy was needed to keep the culture alive, to keep Brooklyn Alive. Please Give Biggie One More Chance!

Two years ago, artists Naoufal “Rocko” Alaoui and Scott “Zimer” Zimmerman, created a luxuriorus mural of the late Notorious B.I.G. on the side of an apartment building located in Brooklyn. The mural depicts the “Juicy” rapper with a gold crown and chain. The words “King of NY” loom over his head. While some enjoy the mural, others have complained about their neighborhood’s property value being affected negatively. The building’s landlord, Samuel Berkowitz, has made plans to rid of the painting altogether.

“Why should I keep it?” Berkowitz said to DNAInfo, “I could demolish the building if I wanted to. I don’t need no permission from anyone except the DOB.”

A nonprofit, Spread Art NYC, offered Berkowitz $5,000 to keep the mural intact, but Brekowitz counter offered with $1,250 a month. Unfortunately, the organization could not meet Berkowitz’s high demands. Berkowitz plans on installing windows on the wall in order to increase rent by a measly $500.

Hmph. Is $500 worth destroying art meant to honor a legend?

Are The New Romphims Really That Bad? Tricky D Thinks So

The internet had a a field day with the new imaginary “Romphim” trend. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s basically a romper for males. The subject blew up when Young Dro appeared to have on a onesie in one of his Instagram posts. It turned out to just be his shirt tucked into his matching shorts on some Black boy/White boy swag, but the damage had already been done. Romphims are now the most anticipated fit of the summer.

There are males and females on both sides of the jumpsuit fence, but there’s one person who did not come to play. Trick Daddy posted a video on Instagram, threatening to put a hit out on anyone who stepped out in his romphim.

He Wants That Old Thing Back

Before Young Thug deleted everything off his Instagram page, he’d posted a video with a song that included a verse from Rich Homie Quan. The caption read, “E.B.B.T.G.,” which is an abbreviation for Thugger’s upcoming album, Easy Breezy Beautiful Thugger Girls. Naturally, fans were excited for the possibility of a Thug, Quan reunion, but during an interview with Fader, the “Flex” rapper set the record straight.

“The song old… I don’t remember the song… but the song’s been mixed and everything. I don’t know if its gonna be on there [E.B.B.T.G.] because I haven’t been called to clear it yet. I wouldn’t have no problem clearing it. But it’s probably his way of saying, ‘Yo what’s up Quan.’”

RHQ goes on to say that he wishes Thug the best and they have a lot of unreleased work.

You Know What They Say: All Publicity Is Good Publicity

Last weekend, Travis Scott spent a whole 12 minutes in an Arkansas jail for reportedly “inciting a riot, endangering the welfare of a minor and disorderly conduct” at his concert. After being released with no bail, Travis used his publicity to drop three new records, confirm a collab album with Quavo and turn his mugshot into money. For $45, you could own a “Free The Rage” T-shirt with a picture of Scott’s mugshot on the front.

A close friend of the “Goosebumps” rapper said Scott was just trying to get everyone to move closer to the stage since the general admission area hadn’t completely filled up. But officers claim Scott “encouraged” everyone to ignore security protocols which resulted in various injuries, including that of a security guard and officer.

Well the shirts are only on sale for 48 hours, so go ahead and cop one. The limited supply may cause the shirts to be worth a lot of money one day.

Cops Suspended Over Bodycam Footage

Two African American Dallas Fort Worth police officers are being disciplined for helping to expose the racist actions of one of their colleagues, NBC reports.

Cell phone footage of an officer responding to a Black woman’s call for assistance after a white neighbor assaulted her son. He instead arrived on the scene and insinuated to the the woman that the neighbor had a right to place his hands on her child, before aggressively arresting both her and her protesting daughter.

Shortly after that, the cop’s own bodycam footage leaked to the public, resulting in a 10-day suspension for the cop in question. Assistant Chief Abdul Pridgen and Deputy Chief Vance Keyes were each demoted to sergeant after their alleged roles in the leak were discovered. Keyes also faces a three-day suspension.

The files were discovered to have been downloaded from Pridgen’s computer. However, both Pridgen and Keyes have denied being the source of the leaks.

Dallas Fort Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald expressed his disappointment in the officers over exposing the questionable actions of their fellow officer, calling them “two men I trusted, called colleagues and called friends.”

Of course, the two women who called the police to assist them with an unruly neighbor expected fair treatment from the officer…but we suppose that accounts for little in the Police brotherhood.

Judge Rules 90s Rap Group No Longer Has To Work With Kedar Entertainment

A judge ordered a record label executive to pay more than $400,000 to Dru Hill after the group sued him for ruining what was supposed to be their comeback album.

Manhattan Federal Judge Victor Marrero recently issued a default judgment against Kedar Entertainment CEO Kedar Massenburg after the court found that the music mogul never responded to the lawsuit, according to court papers.

The singers said they signed deals with the company for two new albums, and Kedar promised to spend a minimum of $300,000 on promoting each one, 2010’s “InDRUpendence Day,” and Sisqo’s “Last Dragon,” which dropped in 2016.

But the suit said Kedar didn’t spend anywhere close to that amount, and in turn, Dru Hill lost millions in record sales, live shows and publishing profits. Dru Hill also complained that they never saw a dime of their advances and royalties from the records.

Judge Marrero ruled that the contract that the “We’re Not Making Love No More” singers were no longer bound to the contract that they signed with Kedar in 2009, and gave the group sole ownership of songs they made under Kedar’s management, including “Last Dragon,” “InDruPendence Day,” “She Wants Me,” and “Can’t Stop.”

The judge also ruled that Kedar has to pay Dru Hill $414,610 plus interest.

Dru Hill sued Kedar and his record label for bungling their comeback album and not paying them.

Steve Harvey Responds To Ex-Wife’s $60 Million Lawsuit

Steve “don’t look me in the eye” Harvey is not going to be giving up the green to his ex easily, if at all. He responded to his ex-wife Mary’ Sheckleford’s lawsuit through his lawyer, according to a Jasmine Brand report. His attorney released the following statement:

Mr. Harvey vehemently denies any allegations set forth in the lawsuit. The Complaint is meritless, frivolous and the allegations are completely false. We will vigorously defend/counterclaim against the Complaint.

Vigorously.

Yesterday, we reported that Mary filed a claim through her “civil rights activist” that says Steve  inflicted irreparable damage on her soul. She also claimed their breakup pushed her to the brink of suicide and into harmful self-medicating. She says Steve took her son, her businesses, and basically her will to live. The two parted ways back in 2005.

Trevor Ariza Robbed Of $50,000 Worth Of Jewelry At L.A. Home

L.A. ain’t safe. These celebrities better smarten up and figure out a way to secure their homes because the jack boys are NOT playin’.

According to TMZ, Houston Rockets hooper Trevor Ariza is the latest victim of Los Angeles home robberies. Thieves broke out with $50,000 of his finest jewels this past Wednesday.

Trevor joins Nick Young and Derek Fisher on a short list of Lakers who have become victims.

LAPD has created a special unit to help curb these robberies but so far, it doesn’t look like their doing too great a job.
