New Orleans To Pay $13.3 For Hurricane Katrina Brutality Cases
After 11 years of waiting, families of people victimized by police following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina will now get some relief.
New Orleans MayorMitch Landrieu announced this week that the city has reached settlements totaling $13.3 million in lawsuits over the deadly police shootings that followed the storm and a fatal beating just before it.
He’s since apologized on behalf of the city and at least one victim’s family is receptive to it.
“I am hoping that in some sense the strength of these families will help the city find peace in our future,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said at an afternoon news conference after a private prayer service attended by some relatives of the victims.
Landrieu said the settlements with 17 plaintiffs end all civil litigation involving those cases. It took more than 11 years because criminal cases had to be dealt with first, he said.
Sherrel Johnson, the mother of 17-year-old James Brissette, who died in the Sept. 4, 2005, shootings on the Danziger Bridge, was among the victims’ relatives on hand for Landrieu’s announcement. She said she “wholeheartedly” accepts his apology.
“Since that time, it has been an awful long and rough road. But me and my family got through it,” she said. Later, she added, “Now this is closure for me, and I can go forward … because I know the old New Orleans does not exist anymore.”
A total of 20 current or former New Orleans police officers were charged in a series of Justice Department civil rights investigations following the August 2005 storm. All but one of the cases centered on alleged police misconduct during the chaos that gripped the flooded city.

A story in ActionNewsJax reveals just that. A man named Issac Geiger was arrested for intent to distribute methamphetamine, marijuana and resisting arrest.
Cops got a tip about drug activity, they responded and saw Geiger standing near a suspicious looking truck…
Once he saw police, Geiger ran from the parking lot. The suspect tripped over his Santa pants running and fell to the ground. Detectives tried to take the suspect into custody but he rolled onto his belly and put his hands under his body. The suspect refused to comply and continued to resist police for some time, JSO said.
Detectives were finally able to put Geiger in handcuffs. Police found a plastic baggie in Geiger’s left shorts pocket, which he was wearing under the Santa suit, and cash in his right shorts pocket. The detectives stood Geiger up to finish searching him and he attempted to run again and was tackled back to the ground by the detectives. He continued to resist and reach for his waistline and was held on the ground until more police could arrive.
In the U-Haul, police found marijuana, a scale with marijuana residue, and a black pouch containing MDMA on the front driver seat. Inside a five-gallon orange bucket with a white lid on the driver’s floorboard was additional marijuana, a yellow substance known to contain THC, Molly, Ecstasy pills, money and a digital scale with residue and a box of plastic baggies.

Fired Professors Suing Clark Atlanta For Millions
HBCU Clark Atlanta University is facing some major legal trouble brought on by several ex-professors. The professors have sued the school claiming they were wrongfully terminated. And they have already won part of their legal fight. The group of professors are seeking additional losses from another jury after a first found their case to have merit.
Five tenured professors are involved in the suit against the school which came about after police escorted 54 faculty members off of the property on February 6, 2009. “The school claimed that they were engulfed in an “enrollment emergency” at the time. The professors sued back in 2013 for breach of a tenured contract. They won,” reported The Grio.

A video of online comedian Adam Saleh getting kicked off a Delta flight for speaking Arabic is making the rounds. People want to believe him, but he pranks for a living.
Saleh posted a video of himself being asked to get off of a Delta flight after other passengers claimed to feel uncomfortable after hearing him speak Arabic on the phone.
The footage looks very troubling as Saleh insists that Delta and the White people who called him out are racists for assuming that just because he is speaking Arabic, he’s up to something terrible.
Saleh eventually got off the plane and booked a flight with another airline. The video has since shared all over social media and has caused many to scream “boycott” or start sharing their own personal stories of racist treatment by Delta.

Matt Barnes Pays $10K A Month To Gloria Govan In Child Support
Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan are officially a wrap!
The NBA baller and reality star Gloria Govan called it quits back 2014 after only 1 year and 11 months of marriage after popping out twin boys together. According to TMZ, divorce court documents show Matt and Gloria are officially divorced and agreed to a child support settlement.
For the kids, Matt paid $5,000 per month in child support in 2016 … but that number goes to $10k per kid per month moving forward until the kids are 18.
For Gloria, Matt paid her $20k per month in spousal support from Jan. 2016 to Dec. 2016, totaling $240,000. And that’s it. No more spousal support from 2017 on.
Now Derek Fisher and Gloria can live in peace!

Tami Roman Says She Regrets Her Plastic Surgery
Tami Roman is admitting to hating her new look.
The Basketball Wife who’s still with her boo thang that’s 17-years her junior, recently appeared on The Doctors and spoke openly on regretting getting butt injections. According to Tami, they were NOT what she was expecting.
“Like I got the booty injections you know and I hate it,” said Tami. “I thought it would do some good. I thought I was plumping it, now I just want to dump it.”
She also revealed that she’s having fertility issues and only has SIX eggs left. This comes after she’s already had three miscarriages while trying to conceive with her fiancé Reggie Youngblood…
“After doing the exam and realizing that I still have six eggs. I have six eggs you know I was happy… So I feel good about the process now
and noted that she’s willing to give up her young boo if she can’t conceive.
“I love Reggie today, I’ll love him 20 years from today. But my love for him wants him to be happy and if we can’t have a child, I don’t think he’ll be happy somewhere down the road and so I would have to let him go,” she explains, fighting back tears.
Poor Tami, wishing her the best with her fertility struggles!
