Rest In Peace Dahlink! Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor passed away Sunday.
Her friend and former publicist, Edward Lozzi, told USA TODAY that she died around 1 p.m. PT Sunday. The news was first reported by TMZ.
“She did not suffer fools well,” said a statement from Lozzi, who had represented her “on and off” since 1989. “Zsa Zsa Gabor was one tough cookie. Her beautiful lips and mouth would also be her worst enemy when and if she turned on the verbal machine gun. Most of her problems originated from that beautiful mouth.
“Zsa Zsa Gabor will always be an American icon and the klieg in the Gabor-Hilton dynasty.”
Yup, Hilton dynasty. In case you forgot, one of Gabor’s nine marriages was to Paris Hilton’s great-grandfather Conrad from 1942-1947.
Gabor was born Sari Gabor in Budapest, Hungary in 1917. She came to the U.S. during World War II with her mother and sisters Magda and Eva. Eva starred on the TV hit “Green Acres.” Eva died in 1995 while Magda passed away two years later in 1997. Zsa Zsa actually got her name from her first film role, in the 1952 musical ‘Lovely To Look At.’ While she also had memorable roles in ‘Moulin Rouge’ and other films, Gabor was best known for playing herself in countless TV and film appearances over a career that spanned more than five decades. In fact, many people consider Zsa Zsa the original “celebutante” and say Kim Kardashian wouldn’t have a career without her having paved the way.
A fall in July 2010 which resulted in hospitalization marked the beginning of years of ill health. A hip replacement surgery resulted in her having to return to the hospital multiple times for treatment of swelling and clots and most of her right leg had to be amputated after infection turned to gangrene.
In June 2005, Gabor and her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt sued her only daughter Francesca Hilton for larceny and fraud.
It probably goes without saying that she had a very full life.
