Beauty Products Aimed At Black Women Contain More Harmful Chemicals

A new report by the nonprofit organization Researchers at the Environmental Working Group, shows that beauty products marketed to Black women are more likely to contain potentially hazardous chemicals and ingredients reports TIME Magazine:

Researchers at the Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzed 1,177 beauty and personal care products marketed to black women and compared the ingredients to a scoring system used for the EWG’s Skin Deep database of over 64,000 personal care products. The database ranks the safety of cosmetics and similar products on a scale of one to 10 (highest hazard), based on a methodology that is outlined here.

Only 25% of the products that the EWG looked at fell into the “low hazard” category, compared to 40% of products that are marketed to the general public. “As a black woman myself, I was disheartened that black women have fewer options for healthier products when they are choosing from products specifically targeted to them,” says co-author Nneka Leiba, deputy director for research at EWG.

The report also showed that the worst-scoring products marketed at black women were hair relaxers and bleaching products, as well as some lipsticks and makeup products. Read the entire report HERE.

Man Dies Of Emotional Distress After Forced To Clean Walgreens Bathroom

Maria Elizarraras, the widow of an elderly Florida man, has sued an Orlando Walgreens store, accusing them of allegedly holding her husband captive until he cleaned the store’s dirty bathroom.

The widow claims that the humiliation of cleaning the disgusting bathroom caused her late husband emotional distress so severe that it killed him reports AJC:

The employees insisted the 69-year-old man clean the facility because, “You left a mess, (expletive) all over the bathroom,” the suit says.

For 20 minutes, Fernando was threatened and forced to clean and mop the bathroom before he was allowed to leave the store, his wife claims in the suit.

Maria Elizarraras was suing Walgreen for an undetermined amount, but documents reveal she is willing to settle the lawsuit for $500K.

The incident caused Fernando to be “humiliated, disgraced and injured in his feelings, emotionally and mentally,” the lawsuit says.

The emotional distress caused by the situation was so severe that it “resulted in the death of Fernando,” the suit says.The lawsuit does not say how much time passed between the incident and Fernando’s death.

New Study Claims Shaving Pubes Can Increase Chances Of Catching STD

A University of California-San Francisco study might just alter your waxing and manscaping habits forever. A report on NYDailyNews says the school’s research shows that shaving your pubic hair could increase your chances of you having that not-so-fresh feeling around your genitals in the form of STDs.

By “increase” they mean 75% more likely!

The act of shaving may create “epidermal microtears” that might allow transmission of bacteria or viruses like HPV.

The study defined extreme grooming as removal of all pubic hair more than 11 times a year and high-frequency grooming as daily/weekly trimming; extreme groomers were found to be 28% more likely to report STIs than high frequency groomers.

“A better understanding of the relation between pubic hair grooming and STI risk,” the study says, “could lead to improved STI-reduction strategies.”

The study notes that an increase in grooming can simply indicate an increase in sexual partners — which increases the possibility of sexually transmitted infections — as it can be a preparation activity.

This is no excuse to be walking around with your peen or punanny looking like a blaxploitation character, but still, be mindful.

Are Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Calling It Quits

Is this the end? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been the subject of divorce rumors almost since right after they exchanged “I Do’s” but this year the murmurs have been at an all time high, especially after Kim was robbed at gunpoint in Paris this October.

But now a “Kardashian friend” is claiming “she wants a divorce,” in the latest issue of US Weekly.

“It will take some time before she can do anything,” claims the friend, alleging that she’s trying to build a case for full custody of kids North, 3, and Saint, 12 months, “but she doesn’t want to stay married.”

According to this source, Kim is waiting for Kanye to make a full recovery before making any decisions but it’s really not looking good for the couple.

“She cares about Kanye and feels relieved he’s getting the help he needs,” continues the friend, “but she’s felt trapped for a while.”

Yikes! This isn’t good… But we wonder how good their sources are. We looked into matters a little more and discovered that People has sources who confirm Kanye’s breakdown has indeed put a strain on the West’s marriage, but she is glad he’s gotten help.

“Kanye and Kim had a stressful few months,” says the insider. “It’s been a tense time. But Kim is happy he’s getting help.”

According to People reports, Kim is “very focused on being supportive and managing the crisis that is going on” as he addresses his health issues.

“She is super focused on him,” says the source, who says Kardashian West has been “the dutiful, responsible, loving spouse that one would expect.”

The source adds that in addition to his wife, the rapper has a “huge support group” of people including family, friends and associates.

“They are incredibly loyal to him and have been around him since day one,” says the insider. “He has their support. It’s not isolated to just him and Kim.”

Yesterday we wondered whether Saint and North have been allowed to spend time with their dad since he returned to their Bel-Air home Sunday — and it appears they have.

“Being a father completely changed Kanye’s life and who he was,” says the source of West’s relationship with his children. “He’s an incredibly proud, doting, involved and loving father. He loves playing with his kids, he loves talking to his kids, he loves teaching his kids. He and North have an amazing relationship. She’s very attached to him.”

The source says West, who “talks about his kids constantly,” is determined to provide them with the best life he can.

In the end, his wife and kids are his motivation, says the source.

“He lives his life in a political way and his family obviously informs all of those decisions,” says the source. “They’re the reasons he does what he does and thinks what he thinks.”

That’s all well and good but if Kim feels trapped and wants a divorce, we all know what’s going to happen. Doesn’t seem like anyone is saying that it’s absolutely not true. Hmmmmm.

$170 Million Approved For Flint Water Crisis

After months of being subjected to contaminated water, the people of Flint are moving closer to getting some relief.

On Tuesday the Senate approved $170 million in aid to Flint, Michigan to end their water crisis under the Water Resources Development Act. The House will now need to approve it.

Raw Story reports:

The bill provides $100 million to help fix Flint’s drinking water system, contaminated by lead leached from aging pipes when the water supply was switched from Lake Huron to the highly polluted Flint River.

It also provides $50 million for healthcare for children who suffered lead poisoning and $20 million to forgive Flint’s old drinking water loans. The bill also provides $70 million to activate a $1 billion fund for low-interest loans to finance upgrades to water infrastructure.

“Today’s passage is an important reminder to the nation that the crisis in Flint is far from over. Today families still cannot drink the unfiltered water that comes out of their faucets! Now, our colleagues in the House need to act as quickly as possible. It’s also essential that the State of Michigan fully meet their responsibilities to solve the water crisis,” Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., said in a statement.

This is an important step forward for the people of Flint but it’s still not over. Flint, Michigan has been without uncontaminated water for nearly 960 days.

Kanye West Is Creating New Music Following His Hospitalization

Kanye West is free from the confines of the hospital and according to TMZ his creativity is free from the confines of his depressed and paranoid brain.

We previously reported that ‘Ye had brought studio equipment to his hospital room because he wanted to continue working while he was in his manic state. Sources close to him say he believes that these traumatic episodes bring out the best in him musically. It’s said that he’s even comparing this latest episode to his infamous car accident and his mother passing.

Now that Kanye is back to taking his proper medication he’s been much more stable and may be well on his way to finishing a new album much sooner than later.

We know Kanye had announced that he and Drake were recording a joint album, but hope for that project was somewhat dashed when he was hospitalized. Maybe that project will regain some of it’s momentum now.

Cops Shoot 14-Year-Old With Knife At Reno High School

Police shot an out-of-control teenager who was waving a knife and threatening people at a Reno, Nevada high school according to NYDailyNews.

The above video has taken during the incident at Hug High School. You can clearly see that the boy was holding a huge knife and taking swipes at students who had gathered around to watch.

Reports say that the unidentified student was involved in some sort of fight prior to recording.

A teacher tried to step in and stop the young man before police intervened.

After being shot the boy was taken to the local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Omarosa Defends Donald Trump

Omarosa Manigault is continuing to ‘Tom it up, this time by once again defending Donald Trump.

As previously reported Omarosa signed on as Trump’s Director of African-American Outreach, a move that apparently cost her several friendships, and now she’s penning a letter Via The Hollywood Reporter to try to assure people that her p***y grabbing President-elect is a good guy.

“I am aware of the perceptions but the’s open-minded,” said Omarosa. “He does not judge people on their gender or race.”

Okay girl.

“I am black, female, and Donald Trump is my friend. I’ve known him since 2003, when we taped the first season of NBC’s The Apprentice.

I’ve had four seasons of TV with him: the original show, Celebrity Apprentice, and I’m the only apprentice to have had a spinoff, The Ultimate Merger. I’ve worked with him for a lot of that time, and I never observed any of the behaviors attributed to him.
In my experiences with him, he has only been professional. I am aware of the perceptions. But he is open-minded: He does not judge people on their gender or race. He judges them on their ability to do the job.”

She also doubled-down on her claims that Trump’s not racist. “It’s very difficult to make the argument that Donald Trump doesn’t like black people and black women,” said Omarosa.

Israel Houghton’s Ex-Mistress Said Texas’ Top Cop Closed The Case Because Of “Misleading Information”

Newlywed Israel Houghton can breathe a little easier over his legal situation with the two children he fathered while married to his first wife.

The Texas Attorney General’s Office has abandoned its case against the gospel singer over paternity for one son and child support determination for both boys, a four-year-old and a two-year-old, BOSSIP has learned.

Reps for the state’s highest law enforcement office appeared in Harris County Family Court in Texas Dec. 6 for a child support hearing, known as “Title IV-D,” where they asked a judge to list the case as “nonsuited,” which meant the state no longer wanted to pursue the case. A judge later signed off on stopping the case from moving forward and effectively terminated it, a rep from the Harris County Superior Court told us. Houghton did not appear.

And Houghton’s sons’ mother, DeVawn Moreno, told us that that the case was halted because the facts weren’t straight from the start.

“The suit was dropped because of misleading information,” Moreno told BOSSIP in an email. “Our children are well taken care of as it always has been.”

A spokeswoman for the AG’s office declined to comment about Houghton’s case.

Kodak Black Banned From South Carolina Over Sexual Assault Charges

While many have been ridin’ ’round and gettin’ it to Kodak Black’s street banger “Skrt”, the state of South Carolina will not allow Mr. Black to ride around their state and get anything.

A WYFF4 report states that the Florida-born rapper has officially been banned from the state except to attend court hearings.

For those of you who don’t know, Kodak was released from a South Carolina detention center last week following his arrest for sexual assault.

According to the arrest warrant, released to the public on Tuesday, Kodak Black, real name Dieuson Octave, “forced the victim onto the bed in the room and then onto the floor of the room,” the warrant continues. The “victim repeatedly told the defendant no and to stop. The defendant did not stop.”

Officials also say that the 19-year-old bit the victim on the neck and chest. The arrest warrant states that a sexual assault kit performed after the incident confirms the injuries, and the victim identified Octave as her attacker.

Can’t lie, we didn’t even know you could be banned from a state for a crime.

Blac Chyna’s Lawyer Confident They’ll Win Trademark Case For Angela Renée Kardashian Name

That Kardashian money may be long but in the case of Angela Renée Kardashian, Blac Chyna’s lawyer says they’re dead a$$ wrong. As BOSSIP reported earier this week, Kim, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian’s companies have opposed Chyna’s request to legally trademark her name as Angela Renée Kardashian.

Considering Chyna’s real name is Angela Renée White and she’s engaged to marry Robert Kardashian, Chyna’s lawyer Walter Mosley tells People the opposition comes as a surprise.

“Everything has been fantastic between her and the family to the best of my knowledge, so this is a shock. Thus, I’m under the belief that it’s a misunderstanding. I don’t know how this plays out any other way,” says Mosley, who adds, “There’s a whole process that went on like anyone else does. So again, I’m hoping this just goes away once they see what it is. Angela, Rob and Dream are doing amazing, wonderful and things couldn’t be better.”

Well that’s good news. Mosley also believes that Chyna will have her way at the end of the day:

“The Kardashians, like Angela and my other clients are very protective of our marks, I think for us this is going to be a clear case win, because it’s actually her name, it’s not a poaching. I would hope that this is just a junior lawyer’s error, who’s just responding to everything and not really looking at who it’s from or why it was filed. There’s a softer side of this where Angela has to have a conversation with her family. But until I hear otherwise, I’m just going to proceed as I normally would with a lawsuit. I have 40 days to respond,” Mosley tells PEOPLE of the suit.

“I have to respond to the notice of opposition, so the way this works is we filed the mark, it was initially unopposed, it was published and then the representatives of the sisters’ companies filed an opposition to Angela owning her name. Sure, it’s not her legal name now, but it is certainly her stage name — her next stage name and her legal name once the wedding is done. In the complaint they are not short or shy as to how they feel about Angela using the trademark. I’m hoping that it’s just a big misunderstanding but I’m just proceeding as if it’s not and am going to do the best work I can for my client,” Mosley says.

Mosley also revealed that of the many trademarks he’s filed for Chyna in the past, this will count as the first to ever be opposed. Is it weird that they didn’t discuss this amongst themselves? Just seems kinda odd that one minute they’re calling Chyna up and inviting her to come get pampered and the next they’re like “sorry boo you can’t use our name.”

There aren’t a lot of winters in Africa. In case you didn’t know: it’s pretty hot over there. Which is why it’s remarkable that these three women are taking a bobsled team to the Winter Olympics. Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere, and Akuoma Omeoga make up the team and they’re magic.
