In case you’ve never been to Times Square in New York, it’s a filthy yet magical place full of frustrated, rushing New Yorkers, pushing their way through tourists, scalpers, international shoppers and mixtape pushers. Needless to say, Times Square is the place millions of tourists visit to experience the “city that never sleeps” vibe they’ve always dreamed of. Due to the extreme amount of foot traffic, Times Square just so happens to be an enormous – and very expensive – advertisement space full of billboards and video screens. Racist Student Popped After Calling Student Protest A “Slave Auction” And Much Worse

Students who are protesting the defacing of an African American History Banner at Clemson University were met with threats instead of support from one white student and now that student has been arrested.

21-year-old Jamie Reece Moore was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a cellphone after posting threatening messages on the app “Yik Yak” according to The Root.

Here is what happened to spark student protests, as reported by the Associate Press.

In four years at Clemson University, the rotting bananas hanging from an African-American history banner on campus weren’t the most racially offensive thing biology major Brendan Standifer has seen. They were just the latest.

Standifer said a quiet racial schism runs through the campus.

“The only time you see true unity is on game day,” he said of the university’s football team which made it to the national championship game in January, but lost.

Standifer, who is black, joined a few dozen other students Monday on the steps of Sikes Hall, Clemson’s administrative building, for the sixth day of a protest demanding more diversity at South Carolina’s second largest university. The protest was still underway Wednesday.

 Just 6 percent of Clemson students are black in a state where nearly a third of the people are African-American. None of South Carolina’s 13 public four-year colleges and universities has a smaller percentage of black students, and Clemson’s African-American enrollment is behind most major Southern universities. The University of Mississippi is 13 percent black. University of South Carolina students are 10 percent African-American, while Auburn University, founded in circumstances to Clemson by agricultural interests unhappy with their state’s flagship university, has 7 percent black enrollment.

The Root reports that Jamie Reece Moore, 21, who was fed up with the protests decided to post the following racist massages for other student to see on Yik Yak according to a police report.

* “Let’s do to the Clemson protesters what Ohio did to the Kent State student protesters 40 years ago.”

* “Drive by at Sikes?”

* Slave auction tomorrow morning at 8am @ Sikes Hall. Lots of good protest workers. Get them while they’re mad!!!”

* “So have they started lynching protesters yet?”

Virginia Governor Signs Executive Order That Allows Felons To Vote Again

Rather than having Republicans shut down the idea of restoring felons their voting rights, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe used his executive power and restored voting rights to hundreds of thousands of felons on Friday.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia used his executive power on Friday to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 convicted felons, circumventing the Republican-run legislature. The action effectively overturns a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution aimed, he said, at disenfranchising African-Americans.

The sweeping order, in a swing state that could play a role in deciding the November presidential election, will enable all felons who have served their prison time and finished parole or probation to register to vote. Most are African-Americans, a core constituency of Democrats, Mr. McAuliffe’s political party.

Amid intensifying national attention over harsh sentencing policies that have disproportionately affected African-Americans, governors and legislatures around the nation have been debating — and often fighting over — moves to restore voting rights for convicted felons. Virginia imposes especially harsh restrictions, barring felons from voting for life.

“There’s no question that we’ve had a horrible history in voting rights as relates to African-Americans — we should remedy it,” Mr. McAuliffe said in an interview Thursday, previewing the announcement he made on the steps of Virginia’s Capitol, just yards from where President Abraham Lincoln once addressed freed slaves. “We should do it as soon as we possibly can.”

It’s said that an estimated 5.84 million Americans are denied the right to vote because of felony convictions.

President Obama Responds To Boris Johnson’s “Dog-Whistle Racist” Comments About His Kenyan Ancestry

London Mayor Boris Johnson is being branded a racist after claiming Obama has an “ancestral dislike” for Britain as a result of his “part-Kenyan” heritage. In case you missed it, Obama is currently visiting London, but not everyone has been welcoming.

According to Al Jazeera reports:

In an opinion essay published in the right-leaning tabloid The Sun, the mayor criticized Obama’s eagerness to urge British voters to remain in the EU and argued that the president may be “anti- British”.

Johnson, who is seen as the unofficial leader of the campaign for the UK to leave the EU, claimed in his article that Obama removed a bust of Britain’s war-time prime minister Sir Winston Churchill from the Oval Office shortly after he took office in 2009.

“Some said it was a snub to Britain. Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan president’s ancestral dislike of the British empire – of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender” wrote the London mayor.

Sheesh… This guy is a piece of work. Fortunately not all Brits are buying his line of reasoning:

Tory MP Sir Nicholas Soames, who is the grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, said Johnson’s comments were “appalling” and “totally wrong on almost everything”.

“Time and time again, his judgment is awry and he shows in this article a remarkable disregard for the facts, the truth and for all judgment,” he told LBC radio. “I don’t think Boris has the stature to be leader.”

Sir Nicholas also said it was inconceivable that Churchill would not have welcomed the views of Obama.

John McDonnell, Labour Party’s shadow chancellor, suggested that Johnson’s remarks were “racist”.

“Mask slips again,” he tweeted. “Boris part-Kenyan Obama comment is yet another example of dog-whistle racism from senior Tories. He should withdraw it.”

Obama responded to Johnson’s comments in a press conference revealing he still keeps a bust of Churchill, but moved it in favor of one of MLK:

Talking next to British Prime Minister David Cameron, Obama said he loved Churchill and still had a bust of the British leader in his White House private residence.

“Right outside the door of the Treaty Room, so that I see it every day – including on weekends when I’m going into that office to watch a basketball game – the primary image I see is a bust of Winston Churchill,” he said.

“It’s there voluntarily because I can do anything on the second floor. I love Winston Churchill. Love the guy.”

Obama said there was a bust of Churchill in the Oval Office during the presidency of his predecessor George W Bush but he decided that he would have a bust of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King in his office instead.

“I thought it was appropriate – and I think most people in the United Kingdom might agree – that as the first African-American president, it might be appropriate to have a bust of Dr Martin Luther King in my office,” he said.

Barry-O told him! Gotta love Obama for always staying cool no matter how ugly his critics get. And this guy is super UGLY.

Somali-British Writer Warsan Shire Who Helped Pen Beyonce’s Lemonade

When Beyonce wasn’t busy planning a world tour, filming a full length visual album and dominating everything else, the singer took time out to read the world’s finest African writers and spoken word artists.

Warsan Shire just happens to be one of the those poets according to The Fader reports:

With her fifth studio album, released in December 2013, Beyoncé introduced her fanbase to the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Bey’s been studying up since then: in her HBO special LEMONADE, which premiered tonight, the singer quoted the Somali-British poet Warsan Shire.

Words and adaptations from some of Shire’s poems, including “For Women Who Are Difficult To Love,” “The unbearable weight of staying (the end of the relationship),” and “Nail Technician As Palm Reader,” serve as interludes between songs. In the production credits for LEMONADE Warsan Shire is noted as having worked on “Film Adaptation and Poetry.”

NYC Election Official Suspended Over Blocking 100k Voters

An election official apparently flubbed her job so badly that nearly ten percent of NY’s voters weren’t able to make their voices heard during last week’s primaries… Via MailOnline:

A New York City Board of Elections official has been suspended after reports of voters being turned away and polling sites opening late in Brooklyn during Tuesday’s presidential primary election.

The Board of Elections office announced that Brooklyn Chief Clerk Diane Haslet-Rudiano has been suspended without pay pending an internal probe into ‘the administration of the voter rolls’ in Brooklyn.

‘The administration of the voter rolls in Brooklyn is of major concern to our office and is a focus of our investigation,’ New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said. Schneiderman’s office launched the investigation after a state voter hotline received more than 1,000 complaints from voters.

New York City’s Comptroller Scott Stringer said that the largest issue appeared to be that some voters who were eligible were removed from voter-registration roll, while others had their party affiliation changed.

In conducting a normal procedure that prevents the removal of eligible voters during a periodical purge for those who died or moved away, Haslett-Rudiano reportedly skipped a step.

Her error caused roughly eight per cent of Brooklyn’s registered voters to be removed.

Wow…EIGHT PERCENT of Bernie supporters voters?? She’s definitely getting fired…

Still, no word on how those extra 100K people will get an opportunity to vote.

Father Busted Cooking Crack In Kitchen While His 10 Children Were Present

A Florida man was arrested while cooking crack cocaine in his home while his 10 kids were present according to Local 10 News:

Lawayne Bostick, 33, was charged after police discovered crack cocaine, cocaine and other drug paraphernalia within reach of the children in his home.

Police were serving a search warrant on probable cause when they found bags of uncut cocaine, Xanax bars and crack cocaine in a bedroom.

In the kitchen, the search turned up a silver fork used to cook crack cocaine, along with a glass bowl and plastic bag with cocaine.

As the glass bowl was on the kitchen stove and in reach of children, Bostick was charged with child abuse. Bostick, who has 10 children with another one on the way, told police that he is unemployed and makes a living selling drugs.

Well, at least he was trying to earn a living to support his kids…..

Remember that EPIC video of Birdman going off on “all tree” of The Breakfast Club hosts for not “respecking” his name???

Well shortly after his ridiculous rant, the Cash Money head issued Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee an apology.

In an updated video from the group titled “What Happened After Birdman Walks Out Of The Breakfast Club?” Envy revealed that Birdman issued a mea culpa and asked to come back again for an interview another day.

Teenage Boy Shoots Two People At Prom Before Cops Kill Him

Imagine enjoying your prom night and then someone walks in with a rifle ready to pop off! That’s what happened to a High Class in Wisconsin this week where 2 students were wounded and the shooter was killed by police. Here is the scoop according to the New York Post.

An 18-year-old gunman opened fire outside of a high school prom in northern Wisconsin, wounding two students before a police officer who was in the parking lot fatally shot him, authorities said Sunday.

The attack happened late Saturday outside the Antigo High School prom, said Eric Roller, the chief of police in Antigo, a community of about 8,000 people roughly 150 miles north of Milwaukee.

Roller told reporters that the gunman shot the two students as they exited the building, though he didn’t say if investigators believe they were specifically targeted or discuss a possible motive for the attack.

“Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shots and an officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat,” he said. He said the gunman was then taken into custody.

Authorities said the two students and the attacker were taken to a hospital and that investigators don’t believe there is a further threat to the community.

Langlade County Coroner Larry Shadick told The Associated Press that the attacker died shortly after 1 a.m. in the intensive care unit of a Wausau hospital. He said further details would have to come from police.

Authorities haven’t disclosed the identities of the wounded students or the attacker, but he said the victims’ families had been contacted. Roller didn’t respond to repeated requests for further information.

After the attack, students were escorted from the prom to safety and the victims’ families were notified.
