The Former Eagles star and his mother could face up to 10 years each, yikes!

Former Philadelphia Eagles player Irving Fryar and his mother, Allene McGhee, were found guilty Friday of charges of conspiracy and theft by deception stemming from a $1.2 million mortgage scheme that prosecutors said victimized seven lending institutions in South Jersey and Philadelphia in 2009.

Fryar, a Pro Bowl wide receiver who retired from the NFL in 2001 after playing for 17 years with four teams, and his mother, a retired school bus driver from Willingboro, showed no emotion as a jury in Mount Holly announced the verdict after more than 11 hours of deliberation.

After the jury of nine women and three men was ushered out, McGhee sobbed softly and stayed in her seat for several minutes in apparent shock, as Fryar and two supporters went to hug and console her.

Fryar, 52, and McGhee, 74, face a maximum of 10 years in prison when they are sentenced by Superior Court Judge Jeanne T. Covert on Oct. 2.

Seems like Philly has taken a lot of losses this week! We hope their luck turns around.

According to NY Daily News reports:

The Ferguson, Mo., court clerk fired over racist emails that surfaced during a Justice Department investigation following the death of Michael Brown has a new job with another Missouri court, according to reports.

Mary Ann Twitty is now working part time at a court in Vinita Park, a city of 1,880 people about six miles from Ferguson, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday.

“I don’t understand why anyone would allow her to work in the halls of justice,” Ferguson Township Democratic committeewoman Patricia Bynes told the paper.

The Justice Department cited the questioned emails involving Twitty and two Ferguson police officers in a scathing March report criticizing Ferguson’s police and court operations.

One email included a photograph of Ronald Reagan feeding a baby chimpanzee with the caption, “Rare photo of Ronald Reagan babysitting Barack Obama in early 1962.”

A 20-year-old woman whose parents entered her into a marriage when she just 11 months old has now rejected that marriage and is fighting to have it annulled.

According to an interview with Gulf News published last month, Santadevi Meghwal discovered at the age of 16 that she had been entered into an arranged marriage when she was not yet a toddler. When her would-be husband and in-laws showed up at her home in the western state of Rajasthan, she refused to leave her house.

Meghwal, a college student studying to become a teacher, was disenchanted at the sight of her “husband,” who she described as crude and aggressive to the Sydney Morning Herald. Further, his family wanted her to abandon her education and become a housewife, which is not the life Meghwal has in mind.

Her “husband” went on to stalk her when she went to college and threaten her, actions that eventually led her parents to support her decision to reject the marriage, even after her village’s council, called a caste panchayat, urged her family to pay a lofty fine of 1.6 million rupees (over $25,000) and banished them from the village in lieu of sending her to live with the man, who is now 28.

Meghwal then turned to Kriti Bharti, a child rights activist with the Saarthi Trust NGO, for help. According to NDTV, they are working to have the marriage annulled by mutual consent and planned to pursue legal action concerning the fine threatened by the village council.

An annulment could take as long as a year or more to process and her “husband’s” family could still present challenges, but Meghwal is undeterred.

“I am not bothered,” Meghwal told Gulf News. “Let them drag the case. I know the law is on my side and I will win the case.”

The smarty pants gang on the internets have been referring to him as “Rahmeek” and thusly felt the need to constantly correct the Pink Print rapper in her comments.

Mom And Daughter Arrested Shooting Up Heroin With Baby

A mother and daughter were arrested after police say they were caught shooting up heroin outside of a Sheetz in Greensburg with a 6-month-old baby in the back seat.

Via Pittsburgh CBS:

Police say a CYS worker who just happened to be stopping at the Sheetz on Harvey Street noticed someone parked at the pumps injecting themselves.

“The daughter was shooting heroin into the mother’s arm while at the gas pumps,” said Capt. Chad Zucco, of Greensburg Police.
Inside the car were 43-year-old Karen Gillespie and her daughter 23-year-old Courtney Jording, as well as a 6-month-old baby girl. Police say the baby had a dirty diaper and the car seat wasn’t secured.

“The car seat was not secured,” Capt. Zucco said. “It was just sitting in the back seat; further, the child had a wet diaper. They looked in the car to find diapers for the baby and there were none.”

Police say they also found 41 stamp bags of heroin, 16 empty bags, four syringes and two spoons.

Both women were charged on multiple drug counts, criminal conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child.

They were taken to the Westmoreland County Jail and are being held on $10,000 straight cash bond.

Runner Completes Marathon While Menstruating Without A Tampon

A musician in the UK decided she wasn’t going to let her period stop her from completing the London marathon.

But to make a statement…the woman decided to take on the course without a tampon or any other sort of sanitary protection — in light colored pants to boot.

After training for a year to run her first marathon in April, Kiran Gandhi certainly wasn’t going to let her period stop her. The 26-year old, who has played drums for singer M.I.A. and Thievery Corporation, decided that running the London Marathon with a tampon in would not be comfortable — so she instead decided to embrace her womanhood and bleed freely during the race.

“I ran the whole marathon with my period blood running down my legs,” Kiran, a Harvard Business School graduate, wrote of the 26.2 mile-long race on her personal website. “I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don’t have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn’t exist. I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it everyday.”

After hard work and training, the drummer ended up finishing the race in four hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds. She posed for pics where she confidently showed the blood running freely down her legs. “I felt kind of like, Yeah! F–k you! I felt very empowered by that. I did, ” Kiran told Cosmopolitan of her decision to run without a tampon. In fact, she believes by doing something like this, sexism can be overcome.

“If there’s one way to transcend oppression, it’s to run a marathon in whatever way you want,” Kiran wrote. “Where the stigma of a woman’s period is irrelevant, and we can re-write the rules as we choose.”

Hey — we’re all for erasing stigmas and whatnot…but we’re not quite sure how making bleeding all over the place the new wave will help women out in the long run.

Black Unemployment Falls Below 10% Yet Still Higher Than Whites

We know that the economic recovery’s effects have been unevenly felt. The recovery has been kind to those who invested in certain stocks or whose title begins with the word “chief.” It’s been less charitable to certain groups, like African American workers, whose unemployment rates have lingered in the double-digits for most of the past eight years.

Wall Street Journal:

For the first time since 2007, the national unemployment rate for African Americans dipped below 10 percent in the second quarter of 2015, according to the Labor Department. Despite that improvement, at 9.5 percent, it’s still nearly twice the national average of 5.3%, and more than double the 4.6% rate for whites.

Overall, only 11 states had African American unemployment rates below 10%, according to an analysis by Valerie Wilson, director of the Economic Policy Institute’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy. Only eight states have seen unemployment rates for black workers fall below pre-recession levels. In Alabama, the African unemployment rate is more than twice what it was pre-recession: 10.9%, compared with less than 5% throughout 2007.

The nationwide average masks wide variations between states and between races. For example, Tennessee has the lowest unemployment rate for black workers, at 6.9%. But that’s about the same rate as the state with the highest unemployment rate for whites, West Virginia, where unemployment stood at around 7% for the quarter.

Similarly, the ratio of unemployment rates for black and white workers swings from the low end in Tennessee, where the black unemployment is 1.2 times that of whites, to a ratio of 5.1 in Washington, D.C. Dr. Wilson attributes the especially high rate of black unemployment to the District’s concentrated urban population, which she said is not entirely comparable to state populations.

Why the gap? Dr. Wilson points to education and work experience as two major factors. Twenty-two percent of blacks had completed four years of college in 2014, versus 32% of whites, according to the Census Bureau.

However, as researchers at the Center for Economic Policy Research have pointed out, that piece of paper is no hedge against unemployment: a 2014 analysis found that 12.4% of black college graduates aged 22 to 27 were unemployed, compared with 5.6% of all college graduates in the same age group.

White Supremacist Blows Off His Own Leg While Making Bombs

An upstate New York man who blew his leg off in his garage making improvised explosive devices will be held in federal custody without bail because law enforcement found white supremacist paraphernalia and believe he’s dangerous.

Michael O’Neill, 45, a former Niagara County corrections officer, is accused of making seven bombs and was arrested two weeks ago after one of the devices accidentally went off. O’Neill was rushed to a hospital where his leg had to be amputated. He was the only one injured, WGRZ reports.

“Luckily, he is detained,” Assistant U.S. Attorney John Alsup told Time Warner Cable News. “He is no longer at large in the community with or without some of the physical disabilities he’s going to have going forward, but luckily for the community, he only hurt himself.”

Pictures of the KKK, Nazi imagery and the Confederate flag were found inside his home, which he lives in with his stepfather, William Ross, who chairs the Niagara County Legislature, WGRZ reports.

Even with his leg now missing, prosecutors believed it would be too risky for the public if O’Neill was released from custody.

The explosives he created contained nails and BB pellets, according to reports. One was labeled “powder with nails.”

His attorney said O’Neill was just planning to blow up some tree stumps.

“The fact that there were some items that we described in court as consistent with, white supremacists, to include the Ku Klux Klan, and the Nazi imagery, some of the verbiage which was particularly on the Nazi picture, also the Confederate battle flag, means that law enforcement has more work to go,” U.S. Attorney William Hochul told TWC News.

O’Neill will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshalls while he recuperates, then will be transferred to a detention facility.

After the explosion, a neighbor told local WKBW that O’Neill spend hours on end

“We only know that we see him at night, in the middle of the night, all hours of the night, all seasons, just out in the garage, out in the back yard,” the neighbor told the station.

Peaceful Protesters Gather On Anniversary Of Mike Brown’s Death

Today we remember Ferguson, MO teen Mike Brown who was gunned down by Officer Darren Wilson and shook the nation.

On the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, Ferguson, Mo. looks a little different today than it did a year ago. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the father of Brown, Michael Brown Sr., led a march in honor of his son, who died in a confrontation with St. Louis police officer Darren Wilson this weekend last year. In the 90 degree heat, children played in the streets, police officers handed out popsicles, and protesters took rides in state patrol ATVs.

According to reporter Jack Witthaus, no one in the neighborhood could remember the last time a march had passed through. Michael Brown Sr. led the march, with about 100 people, from Canfield Green Apartments, where his son was shot, to Normandy High School, his son’s alma mater. When he died, 18-year-old Brown had just graduated from high school a few days before.

The march started with a group prayer at the memorial site; Michael Brown Sr. has been organizing this and other events (like yesterday’s event to feed the homeless and tomorrow’s silent walk) through his family’s nonprofit. After the prayer, the group marched the five miles to Brown’s school, with Da Warehouse Warriors Youth Marching Machine leading the way. “It means a lot,” said the mom of two girls in the drumline. “This is a teaching moment to the kids to always stand up for something.”

Producers from Real Housewives of Atlanta have officially made a move they hope can fill the void of NeNe Leakes leaving the show.

Sources close to production tell TMZ Sheree Whitfield has finalized her contract with Bravo to return to the show and was filming last night.

We’re told former cast member Marlo Hampton will make the occasional appearance on the show as well.

You might remember … Sheree’s mega mansion she was building became an ongoing joke on RHOA during the first season.

Our source says with the two women returning to the cast, fans will have all the drama they need.

The ladies were spotted filming this week at the launch of Cynthia Bailey’s eyewear line…

and Marlo not so subtly hinted at her return.
