This is the bizarre moment a man is warned he could be breaking the law by allowing barbecue smells to leave his property.
The footage shows a local government worker reprimanding the man following a complaint from a neighbour.
During the film the man is reminded of a rule in force in Pinellas County, in the US state of Florida, that prohibits barbecue smells wafting across streets.
“I’m only here because of the odour, I’m only here because of the smoke,” the official tells the disbelieving man.
He adds that he has taken photographs of the smoke adding: “I can smell it, I can smell it right now, but I’m on your property.
“You’re allowed to have it smell on your property. so that doesn’t count but when I’m on the street that’s when it counts.”
The astonished cameraman, who captured the footage, asks how the group is supposed to control the odours adding: “So we’re supposed to control the smoke and the wind and where it’s blowing?”Scotty Jordan uploaded the clip to Facebook earlier this week and it has since been shared more than 30,000 times and viewed more than 68,000 times on YouTube.
The environmental section of the Pinellas County website states: “Commercial barbecue cookers are not exempt from causing a nuisance odour.
“If a sufficient number of complaints, representing different households, are reported and an inspector witnesses the problem, they can issue a warning letter.”
