The Rise Of Sneaker Culture Chronicled At Brooklyn Museum

This one’s just for kicks.

A new exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum charts the evolution of the sneaker from a 19th century upper class novelty to a modern day sought after status symbol.

“The Rise of Sneaker Culture” chronicles the history of the rubber-soled shoes as well as the footwear’s ascension into pop culture.
“I grew up here in New York, and we don’t really have cars, we can’t floss with our cars, we floss with our shoes,” sneaker designer Jeff Ng told BOSSIP. “That’s how we show our style.”

BOSSIP got a sneak preview of the exhibition, and the hundreds of pairs on display are truly a sneaker head’s wet dream. Highlights include an autographed pair of Walt Clyde Frazier Pumas, Converse high tops from 1917, all 23 pairs of Air Jordans, an original pair of 1985 Nike Air Force Ones –even a pair of kitten-heeled women’s sneakers from the 1920s.

Sneakers came into vogue during the 1800s, but were largely footwear for the wealthy. It was the vulcanization of rubber in 1839 that helped bring sneakers to the masses.

During the early and mid-1900s, athletes largely wore sneakers, but that changed in 1984: Nike released the first Air Jordans and Run DMC’s hit “My Adidas” hit the airwaves. Modern sneaker culture was born.

“Sneakers are this common, everyday object,” Brooklyn Museum curator Lisa Small told us. “Everybody has a pair of sneakers in their closet. But they have a really rich history that intersects in a lot of different ways with other cultural and historical moments.”

The Rise of Sneaker Culture runs July 10 through October 4, 2015 at the Brooklyn Museum.

Kim Coles Gets Married

“Living Single’s” Kim Coles is officially a married woman. The 53-year-old recently tied the knot with her 41-year-old former SWAT team boo.

People.com reports:

Living Single‘s Kim Coles was just fine, well, living single, when she met her now-husband Reggie Mckiver. A former SWAT cop, he was assigned to be her security escort at a natural hair expo, and they were enjoying each other’s company, but they felt something special when Mckiver (who also owns a health food store) took her hand to read her energy and ended up holding it “a little big longer than he should have.” That fateful meeting all led to this: a sweet, intimate wedding in the Dominican Republic.

“[My heart] was open just enough for Reggie to come though and I’m so glad he did,” Coles tells PEOPLE. “I’m 53 and Reggie is 41 but I’m not a cougar. I can’t run that fast. I’m a meerkat or a prairie dog. It’s about the right energy. It wasn’t like I was trolling for younger men. It’s about energy. We’re ageless. Just two people on the same plane.”

After a long-distance courtship, Mckiver surprised her by proposing without a ring at an Olive Garden (“I didn’t have a stitch of makeup on!” Coles says, while Mckiver jokes, “I was just going to ask for the eggplant parmesan!”). But in a stroke of luck, he found his mom’s long-missing engagement ring at his sister’s house to give to Coles, and the wedding planning was set into motion.

The couple called their closest friends and family and asked if they’d be able to join them in the Dominican Republic for a super-small wedding, which ended up getting significantly bigger when Coles announced at a comedy gig that she’d be getting married that week. (“Me with my big mouth announced I was getting married! People asked where and I was like, you cant come, it’s a private wedding. We had to move the wedding from one beach to a whole other beach, but all the people from the tour showed up — 45 people in their bathing suits and towels — but they were very respectful.”)

Kim has since shared a photo of her ring on Instagram.

Orlando Scandrick Apologize For Making Rude Comments About Draya Michele

Lil’ too late for all of that…

According to TMZ reports:

Orlando Scandrick is backing way off his previous statements about ex-fiancee Draya Michele … telling TMZ Sports although the wedding is off, he still loves the ‘Basketball Wives’ star.

We broke the story … Scandrick announced the end of his engagement to Draya this past Monday … taking a parting shot on his the way out the door … calling his proposal a “poor decision.”

Now Scandrick tells us the statements he made were impulsive, and wants everyone to know that he still cares for the reality star … even though things didn’t work out.

“I want to apologize for my original statement. I let my emotions fly impulsively. Draya is a great mother, works hard and I wish her nothing but the best. I still love her.”

As for some of the rumors that came out surrounding the end of the relationship — like Draya buying her own ring or rumblings of infidelity — Orlando told us, that’s all BS.

“I purchased the ring. I proposed. There was no cheating involved, we just couldn’t make it work.”

Anybody with good sense could tell that Orlando bought the ring himself based on his statement saying “I made a poor decision”, however he’s still a cornball.

Kanye West Styles Kim Kardashian For Fashion Photography Booklet

Kim and Kanye West weaved a little couples’ work into their play time in Paris back in the Spring, collaborating on a photo shoot with famous photog Juergen Teller. Kanye picked Kimmy’s clothes — nude lingerie, of course — and posed her in the dirt for an extra artsy feel…

Kim Kardashian is getting a little dirtier than usual in a sexy new photo shoot — styled by none other than her husband Kanye West.

The reality star posed for famed photographer Juergen Teller for a series of weird pics taken at France’s Château d’Ambleville in the spring — back when Kardashian was still blond.

The portfolio of photographs is titled “Kanye, Juergen & Kim,” with the cover featuring a kiss between the superstar couple.

Despite getting last billing in the booklet’s title, Kardashian seems to be the star of the shoot, rocking a nude bodysuit paired with a similar-colored bustier and thigh-black stockings. One photo shows the star wasn’t afraid to get dirty for high fashion, posing provocatively on a large mound of dirt.

But the portfolio also features photos of her rapper husband wearing a simple, all-black ensemble. Even Teller is shown in photos, and like Kardashian is sporting minimal clothing – the pictures show him without any pants.

The shoot was taken for a special booklet produced by System Magazine, which will soon be available on their website.

Cosby Accuser Lawyer Suggests He Has A Sexual Disorder

By now, it’s pretty apparent that Bill Cosby has no problem using drugs to get women to do what he wants. Now, one of his first accusers’ lawyers is suggesting that the comedian may be driven by a sexual dysfucntion that actually causes him to prefer sex with passed-out women. Via NewYorkPost:

The latest in the Bill Cosby case has drawn attention to an unusual condition. A lawyer for one of the women who accused the comedian of sex assault raised the possibility that he might have the little-known condition called somnophilia.

What exactly is it? The simple explanation: “being aroused by the idea of having sex with someone sleeping,” whether actual sexual contact occurs or not, said Dr. Michael First, a professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center.

The term came up Wednesday in a motion filed by a lawyer for Andrea Constand, the first woman to accuse the actor-comedian of sexual assault, seeking to force disclosure of more records in her previously settled case. Cosby acknowledged in a 2005 deposition in the case that was unsealed this week that he obtained quaaludes to sedate women he wanted to have sex with.

“Although some of the women engaged in consensual relations with Cosby, their accounts substantiated defendant’s alleged predilection for somnophilia,” Constand’s lawyer, Dolores Troiani, wrote in the motion.

So why might someone be turned on by the thought of sex with someone who is out of it?

“The research on this is very, very limited,” First said. “It’s possibly that what the person might find arousing is the idea you have full control over this person,” or it could be the lack of consent, the sense of getting away with something, or even just the attraction of seeing the person asleep, he said.

SMH! Well, if that’s actually the case no wonder he was running around copping Quaaludes to slip in womens’ cocktails. What do you think?

Hackers Steal 2.5 Million Social Security Numbers

If you’ve ever applied for a government job with clearances, your identity may have been compromised. Unidentified hackers have stolen the social security numbers, residency, and information about immediate families. Via MailOnline:

Hackers stole 21.5 million social security numbers in an extraordinary data breach, the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has revealed.

The files, accessed in May, included those of 19.7 million individuals who had applied for security clearances to qualify for a job with the government. Another 1.8 million belonged to non-applicants, such as applicants’ spouses or partners.

At least 1.1 million of the stolen records included fingerprints, the OPM said in a news release.

Michael Daniel, special assistant to the president and cybersecurity coordinator at the National Security Council, said he was ‘not really prepared to comment’ on whether China was responsible for the hack.

The incident comes after a ‘separate, but related’ incident in April, when files of 4.2 million current and former federal workers were stolen.

According to OPM, both breaches were discovered as the agency conducted a forensics investigation into the way federal data is managed.

The government will now be forced to provide three years of support from a private firm specializing in data breaches for all 21.5 million victims to monitor their children, credit files and identity.

Stolen records include identification details such as Social Security Numbers; residency and educational history; employment history; information about immediate family and other personal and business acquaintances; health, criminal and financial history; and more.

SMH! They aren’t comfortable talking about whether or not it’s China’s fault? Sounds like it’s DEFINITELY China’s fault…

Scott Disick Backs Out Of Club Appearance

Scott Disick’s been officially kicked to the curb by fed-up Kourtney Kardashian after getting caught rubbing down an ex-girlfriend while overseas. Apparently he’s been taking his new found freedom as an opportunity to go on a party bender and skipping out on Daddy duty. Scott missed daughter Penelope’s third birthday at Disneyland while partying it up in Florida…instead only posting this semi-regretful Instagram message for his daughter’s special day:

Scott Disick is saying NO to partying his face off — for at least one night — he’s backed out of a paid hosting gig in Las Vegas.

Disick just made the 11th hour decision to postpone his Friday night appearance at 1Oak Nightclub in Vegas.

The decision comes on the heels of Kourtney Kardashian pulling the plug on their relationship — and after Scott missed their 3-year-old daughter Penelope’s birthday this week.

We broke the story … Disick’s friends had been urging him to cancel on 1Oak, and get into rehab.

Caitlyn Jenner Rumored To Be Dating Candis Cayne

Has Caitlyn Jenner got a new woman in her life? After being spotted around NY getting cozy with fellow transgender celeb Candis Cayne, Caitlyn is now rumored to be tiptoeing into the early stages of her first post-transition (lesbian?) relationship. Via YahooNews:

Caitlyn Jenner has been going from strength-to-strength since making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair in June, and now reports are claiming she may have found herself a partner in the form of Candis Cayne.

The 65-year-old allegedly instantly hit it off with the transgender actress in New York, where she attended a Gay Pride event, before the two spent a few more days together.

According to reports, the two went shopping, had a candlelit dinner, watched a show on Broadway AND went to a spa together.

If only all our dates were like that.

A source allegedly told Star Magazine: “Caitlyn and Candis had amazing chemistry. After her monumental life change, Caitlyn’s ready to open up her heart again and really, how could you ask for a more perfect fit as a romantic partner than Candis?

“She’s been basically through the same struggles and confusion, so she’d be the perfect person for Caitlyn to lean on as she continues her journey of transition.

Miami Police Officer Under Investigation For Starring In Pornography

A Miami police officer is under investigation now that it’s come to her bosses attention that she used to get freak nasty on camera. 8-year veteran of the Miami PD, 30-year-old Sabine Raymonvil swears that her porn-star days occurred before she joined the police force…however problems persist since they were made with the help of another Miami PD officer and a convicted rapist. Via Local10 News:

A Miami police officer is the subject of an internal investigation that includes allegations that she performed in pornographic movies while serving as a cop.

Local 10 News obtained copies of some of the films featuring Officer Sabine Raymonvil, 30, an eight-year veteran of the Miami Police Department.

Among those she performs sex acts with in the clips is Emerson Callum, a pornographer who is now serving a life sentence in federal prison after being convicted of drugging and raping women who auditioned for his company in 2012.

Also convicted in that case was Callum’s partner and cameraman, Lavont Flanders, a former Miami Beach police officer. Callum had been charged with similar crimes in 2007, but he was not prosecuted.

Raymonvil refused to answer questions while on camera, but later telephoned the station and said that her work in porn films was done prior to her becoming a police officer.

“Right now there is a lot going on with this whole situation,” Raymonvil said. “It’s currently under investigation by two police agencies. So I can’t say very much. I’m willing to speak with you after the investigations are closed. I never made porn while I was a police officer.”

SMH. Well if the videos were indeed before she got her job as a cop…should it matter that she made a few freaky mistakes in the past?
