DaJuawn Wallace said he didn’t stop immediately when prompted by police at 2 a.m. Feb. 19 because he was taught to pull into a well-lit and safe area before doing so.
The Detroit native who is a commuter student pursuing a master’s degree at Saginaw Valley State University believes he did not commit a crime, since he pulled over in a Sam’s Club parking lot about 1.5 miles up the road from where police activated their lights.
The Saginaw County prosecutor’s office disagrees, however. Wallace faces one felony count of fleeing and eluding.
“I live in Detroit, and I know some people who were robbed by fake police officers,” Wallace said. “I was taught to find a well-lit area to pullover in.”
Wallace said he was making a store run to get medicine for his girlfriend when he saw headlights in his rearview mirror, accelerating behind him.
Wallace signaled and moved into the right lane to let the vehicle pass. The police car activated its lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
“I was not speeding up, turning off my lights or trying to get away,” said Wallace, 24.
Police dash-cam video shows Wallace sticking his hand out the window and signaling. He said he did so to show police that he was going to pull over in the Sam’s Club parking lot.

Saginaw Valley State University Police Officer Leon Wilson wrote in his police report that he initiated a traffic stop on Wallace because his vehicle fit the description of a car that he observed driving on a sidewalk on the SVSU campus. Wilson lost sight of the vehicle.
“I was uncertain about the make and the model of the vehicle, but this vehicle looked like the same color and was leaving the immediate area,” Wilson wrote.
Wilson reported that after he turned flashing lights at the intersection of Bay and Liberty, Wallace continued southbound at about 35 miles per hour as he approached Kochville Road.
“The driver made no attempt to pull over and stop. I observed the driver stick his hands out of the window a couple of times. I did not see the driver throw anything from the vehicle, though it was dark and the road was poorly lit,” Wilson wrote.
Outside the Sam’s Club, police arrested Wallace on a charge of felony fleeing and eluding.

Wallace at a June 12 preliminary hearing in District Judge Terry Clark’s courtroom, was offered attempted fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, a one-year misdemeanor with a delayed sentence – meaning that after he completes probation, the charges will be dismissed.
Wallace rejected the offer.
The deal is available for a reasonable amount of time, Boyd said.
Wallace said he has no interest in any deal of any sort short of dismissal.
“I’m very certain I can stay out of trouble for a year, but I question whether they think I can,” Wallace said.
“Most people will say fine, thank you for not sending me to jail. Well, that will be detrimental to me.
“If I had to take a plea for a felony, I would be forced to resign my job, and I wouldn’t be able to get financial aid, and I wouldn’t be able to do anything with my degree. Even still with the misdemeanor.”
F*** a plea deal. We’re glad this kid is smart enough to not forfeit his future in favor of a “deal” that the system is trying to offer.

This is step one in the process to get South Carolina’s Confederate Flag down…
The South Carolina Senate voted Monday to remove the Confederate battle flag from the grounds of the State House. The bipartisan proposal, which emerged after last month’s massacre at a historic black church in Charleston, was approved by a 37-to-3 vote in the Republican-controlled Senate.
The Senate has one remaining ratification vote, now virtually assured of success.
The debate will shift to the House of Representatives, which Republicans also dominate, where the timeline for — and tenor of — the debate remains less clear.
The Senate’s vote on Monday marked a resounding shift in South Carolina, where less than three weeks ago removing the Confederate battle flag from a memorial near the State House was viewed as politically impossible.
Now we just have to wait to see what the House votes.

There you have it folks, Bill Cosby HIMSELF has owned up to finding drugs to use on women he wanted to have sex with.
According to AP reports:
Bill Cosby testified in 2005 that he got Quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with, and he admitted giving the sedative to at least one woman and “other people,” according to documents obtained Monday by The Associated Press.
The AP had gone to court to compel the release of the documents; Cosby’s lawyers had objected on the grounds that it would embarrass their client.
The 77-year-old comedian was testifying under oath in a lawsuit filed by a former Temple University employee. He testified he gave her three half-pills of Benadryl.
Cosby settled that sexual-abuse lawsuit for undisclosed terms in 2006. His lawyers in the Philadelphia case did not immediately return phone calls Monday.
Cosby has been accused by more than two dozen women of sexual misconduct, including allegations by many that he drugged and raped them in incidents dating back more than four decades. Cosby, 77, has never been criminally charged, and most of the accusations are barred by statutes of limitations.
Cosby resigned in December from the board of trustees at Temple, where he was the popular face of the Philadelphia school in advertisements, fundraising campaigns and commencement speeches.

Now that Cosby’s own testimony has substantiated the stories, Jill has taken to Twitter to address why she called the rape accusations an “attack on Bill’s legacy” rather than considering that there might be some truth to them:

A Maryland State trooper was caught with his pants down (literally) on Monday morning, in the middle of forcing a woman to perform sex acts against her will. The officer reportedly was committing his crime in a public space, threatening the woman with his gun, and was caught by a passing officer on patrol. Via WashPo:
A state trooper has been charged with forcing a woman to perform a sex act on him at gunpoint.
A Maryland State Police spokeswoman said that Brian Tucker, an 18-year member of the Maryland State Police, has been suspended without pay.
Prince George’s County police arrested Tucker on Monday about 2 a.m., when an officer on patrol saw the 43-year-old trooper standing with a woman next to an SUV parked in a commercial area, near the intersection of Rochell Avenue and Hazelwood Drive in Capitol Heights.
As the officer approached to see what was happening, the woman told him that Tucker had a gun. Tucker identified himself as a state trooper.
Prince George’s police said in a statement that Tucker had agreed to pay the woman to perform a sex act. He then forced her at gunpoint to perform an additional sex act against her will, she told police.
The gun was not Tucker’s duty weapon, Prince George’s police said. He has been charged with a first-degree sex offense and a firearm violation.
SMH! Imagine if that other officer hadn’t passed by or the woman still refused.
After news broke that a family member was shopping around a photo of Bobbi Kris on her death bed, the Houston family has made the decision that the Browns should no longer be permitted to visit her in hospice care. Via TMZ:
Bobby Brown’s family can no longer visit Bobbi Kristina in hospice — they’ve been banned because security guards believe one of them took the deathbed photo that’s being shopped around.
Sources close to the situation tell us the security team at the hospice informed Whitney Houston’s family there was evidence incriminating a Brown family member as the person who snapped the pic.
We’re told Bobbi Kristina’s estate — run by her legal guardians — made the decision to ban the Browns. We’re also told although they know the culprit … they’re not naming names at this point.
TMZ broke the story — someone is selling the pic to the highest bidder, and has already contacted several websites and magazines. So far, it has not been published.
We’re told the ban does not affect Bobby. On Sunday, he told us he was committed to finding the person responsible for the pic.
So sad. At least Bobby can still spend time with his daughter. Do you think it’s fair to cut the entire family off when they know exactly who took the photo?
A local business owner in Canada tried to pull a stunt to promote his business. While the plan was for him to sky-dive into a rodeo from a lawn-chair floating via balloons…but instead he ended up in jail. Via E!online:

While many of us who are fans of the movie only wished of traveling the skies on a chair tied to balloons, Daniel Boria of Calgary, Alberta, made it a reality and pulled one very dangerous (but pretty awesome, let’s be real) stunt.
Except now he’s facing charges from police. Oops!
Boria was detained by police over the weekend after he was spotted soaring over Calgary in a lawn chair tied to helium balloons in an alleged stunt to promote his company, according to reports.
He tied 110 helium-filled balloons to a $10 green plastic lawn chair purchased at a local Walmart, according to CBCNews and Boria, a skydiver, planned to parachute from his colorful aircraft into the Calgary Stampede, an annual rodeo event, to draw attention to his company.
However the weather worked against Boria, and he ended up landing in an industrial field about a mile away from his target. He was uninjured, and his unique contraption is said to still be flying in the sky somewhere.

Serena Williams is one step closer to the Grand Slam today, as she just faced off against older sister Venus at Wimbledon and won. Via People.com:
It was a bittersweet win for Serena Williams at Wimbledon on Monday, as she defeated her big sister Venus, 6-4, 6-3.
Having already won the Australian and French Opens, Williams is now only three matches away from her third Major title of this season.
If Williams can win Wimbledon and be victorious at the U.S. Open in September, she’ll be the first woman to complete the Grand Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988. She’d also tie Graf’s record of 22 Major championships for her career. This means both ladies would be in second place to Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 titles.
“It’s hard to feel excited about [beating] someone you root for all the time no matter what and who you love so much and she’s your best friend in the world,” Serena told the Associated Press. “It’s never easy, but you just play for the competition and enjoy the moment.”
Each Williams sister has won Wimbledon five times.
Venus was playing in her 18th Wimbledon. She’s the oldest remaining woman in the draw.
“It definitely doesn’t get easier,” Serena said. “But today I was out there and I just thought, ‘Wow, I’m 33, and she just turned 35; I don’t know how many more moments like this we’ll have.'”
