Chris Johnson Shot In Shoulder During Orlando Drive-By
Prayers up for Chris Johnson and his friends who were injured during a drive-by Sunday that claimed the life of Dreekius Johnson, who was driving the vehicle.
According to NY Daily News reports:
Soon-to-be ex-Jets player Chris Johnson was shot early Sunday in his Florida hometown when a gunman opened fire on a car he was in, killing the driver and wounding another passenger.
Johnson, poised to be released by the Jets and become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, suffered a bullet wound to the shoulder in the 4:09 a.m. drive-by shooting in Orlando, police said.
Dreekius Johnson, 28, was killed and Reggie Johnson, 29, was wounded, police said. It was unclear if the two men are related to the football star.
Chris Johnson, 29, told cops their Jeep was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Southland Blvd. and Orange Blossom Trail when a car pulled up next to them and a gunman opened fire without warning, police said.
Just insane… What would you do?
The shooting erupted after Johnson and his crew left a concert given by Florida rapper JuicedUpKT. Before going to the concert, Johnson posted an Instagram photo of himself and a pal he identified only as “Pollie.”
Photos of the Jeep showed at least two bullet holes in the window on the passenger side, where Chris Johnson was sitting.
“When the driver got shot, Chris was leaning back in his seat, texting like he always does. If he wasn’t leaning back, that shot would have killed him,” a source close to Johnson told TMZ.com. “It wasn’t his time.”
Thank God he survived, but what the hell was going on for this to have happened?
Johnson hasn’t been trouble free either…
Johnson, the 2009 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, had been arrested in Orlando in January when cops pulled him over and found two semiautomatic handguns in his car. He was charged with a misdemeanor for openly carrying firearms.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and everyone impacted by this tragic event,” the Jets said in a statement.
Johnson’s departure from the Jets came after he slammed management for vowing he would be the team’s go-to running back, only to make him second fiddle to Chris Ivory.
“I think I went into a situation where I was told one thing, and it was another,” Johnson told a TV interviewer last month.
R.I.P. Dreekius. We hope Chris has a speedy recovery and gets it together on the field and off of it.
