Malik Yoba Denies Outing “Empire” Co-Star Jussie Smollett

Empire star Jussie Smollett aka “Jamal Lyon” has made it a point not to speak about his real-life sexuality in interviews, but recent comments on the topic made by his co-star Mailk Yoba last week had the internet on fire.

As we reported, Malik did an interview with BlackFilm and was quoted as confirming that Jussie is indeed gay in real life, but he now says he was misquoted.  Malik issued this statement to USA Today via his publicist once the story broke:

“I was misquoted in the article. My reference to Jussie was only about his character and storyline on Empire.”

“I think that our show represents a huge opportunity to stay in the culture beyond entertainment value and there’s an intrinsic nature of you have the gay factor, right? So, obviously, Lee (Daniels, co-creator) is gay. That was an important storyline for him. I think it’s important for people to see themselves. Even within the Black community. But if you aren’t really, really taking it off of screen and making it live in the community in a significant way … like I know Jussie, he is gay, and he’s very committed to issues around the LGBT community. He and I have a very close relationship.”

Man Kills Toddler For Cursing During Video Game

An Illinois man was recently found guilty of murder after authorities say he fatally struck his girlfriend’s 3-year-old for cursing while playing Mortal Kombat.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

A Waukegan man who said he was angered that his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son cursed while playing a video game was convicted of first-degree murder Tuesday for the child’s beating death.

Sometime after 11 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2011, the boy supposedly let slip an expletive, followed by “he got me” as he was playing “Mortal Kombat” while waiting for dinner, prosecutors said.

Thomas Albea, who was 18 at the time, later admitted to police that he responded by striking X’Zavion Charleston several times.

During the second and final day of Albea’s murder trial, a videotaped statement was played in court in which Albea admitted to police that he struck the child “four or five” times in response to the boy’s comment.

The incident occurred in the Waukegan apartment where Albea usually stayed with his girlfriend. X’Zavion died at about 5 p.m. the next day at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

During interviews with police the day the boy died, Albea initially told investigators he struck the child once, according to evidence presented at trial.

But after Waukegan detectives said doctors described the child’s injuries as recent and caused by several blows, Albea admitted he struck X’Zavion multiple times.

“I think I hit him like four or five times,” Albea told detectives in the videotaped statement.

Ben Carson Says People Choose To Be Gay And Prison Is Proof

Dr. Ben Carson said Wednesday that he believes homosexuality is a choice because some people who go to prison identifying as straight come out of prison identifying as gay.

Via Talking Points Memo reports:

During a discussion of same-sex marriage, CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked the potential 2016 Republican presidential contender whether he thought being gay was a choice. When Carson replied “absolutely,” Cuomo asked him to explain.

“Because a lot of people who go into prison, go into prison straight — and when they come out they’re gay,” Carson said on “New Day.” “So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question.”

Carson went on to argue that changing the definition of marriage isn’t necessary to give gay couples equal rights.

The conservative darling has a history of making disputed remarks about homosexuality, earning him a brief spot on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s anti-LBGT “extremist” list.

He’s also staunchly opposed to broadly legalizing gay marriage. Carson told an Iowa broadcaster in January that he believes Congress should dismiss federal judges who rule in favor of gay marriage, and he built on that idea again last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference without explicitly referencing gay marriage.

Racist E-Mails From Ferguson PD Go Public

r the activists who cast Ferguson, Mo., as a symbol of the fight against police racism, the Department of Justice report castigating the city’s Police Department for patterns of racial bias was long-sought vindication.

The full report, which is to be released as soon as Wednesday, portrays a troubled, overwhelmingly white department policing a predominantly black city where racism was prevalent, where violence was sometimes used against people of color and where traffic stops focused on blacks as a way to raise municipal funds, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the findings.

“This confirms what many people have been saying for a long time,” said Antonio French, a St. Louis alderman who was a prominent presence during the days of protest that marked Ferguson last August. “The Ferguson Police Department had a pattern and a culture that targeted minorities.”

A glimpse of the police attitudes on racial bias and stereotyping can be seen in two emails exchanged between members of the police force and municipal court officials that were included in the report.

Members of the police force and municipal court officials exchanged racist emails, the investigation found, including one from 2008 predicting that President-elect Barack Obama would not be in office long because, it said, “what black man holds a steady job for four years.”

A May 2011 email, according to the report, said:

“An African-American woman in New Orleans was admitted into the hospital for a pregnancy termination. Two weeks later she received a check for $5,000. She phoned the hospital to ask who it was from. The hospital said, ‘Crimestoppers.’ ”

Bodies Of 2 Deceased Babies Found At Las Vegas Laundry Facility

Authorities say a Las Vegas hospital mistakenly sent two dead babies wrapped in linens to a laundry facility, leading to a grisly surprise for the cleaners.

The remains were in a load of laundry that Spring Valley Hospital sent Tuesday to the medical laundry company Angelica in nearby Henderson.

Henderson police spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says detectives determined it was an inadvertent mistake and it’s not considered suspicious.

Hospital spokeswoman Gretchen Papez says a woman who suffered a miscarriage early in her pregnancy had arrived at the hospital by ambulance with the dead twins already wrapped in linens.

Papez says hospital officials are trying to determine how the mistake occurred.

She says officials have been in contact with the family after the remains were returned to the hospital.

Man Kills Neighbor But Takes His Body To Lawyer’s Office

Via News Press reports:

A Lee County man who drove a dead neighbor to his attorney’s office will not be arrested, his attorney, Robert Harris, said late Wednesday night.

John Marshall walked into Harris’ Fort Myers law firm Wednesday claiming he had killed Ted Hubbell in self-defense in Bokeelia and brought the body with him in the bed of his pickup.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene declined to confirm whether Marshall will be arrested or not.

Marshall spent the majority of Wednesday holed up at the Harris Law Firm on Virginia Avenue.

At 10:33 p.m. Marshall, who had injuries, left his lawyer’s office bound for Lee Memorial Hospital.

Marshall exited the practice wearing a black jacket over his head to avoid the news cameras waiting for him outside.

Marshall, told his attorney that he had wrestled the gun away from the other man and fatally shot him in the scuffle earlier in the afternoon, Harris said.

Marshall, 52, had a swollen lip, a freshly missing tooth, another tooth that is chipped and what looked like two broken thumbs, Harris said. Marshall said he brought the man to the attorney’s office because he didn’t know who else to trust.

Ben Carson Apologizes For Saying Prison Makes People Gay

We reported that yesterday During a discussion of same-sex marriage, CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked the potential 2016 Republican presidential contender Ben Carson whether he thought being gay was a choice. When Carson replied “absolutely,” Cuomo asked him to explain.

Thousands of people fired back at the nimrod neurosurgeon and he was forced to be an apology via his Facebook Fan Page:

The presidential hopeful noted his medical experience and suggested that the question of how sexuality originates is still up for debate.

“Some of our brightest minds have looked at this debate,” he said, “and up until this point there have been no definitive studies that people are born into a specific sexuality.”.

“Religious marriage must only be governed by the church,” he said. “Judges and government must not be allowed to restrict religious beliefs.”
