Nas Performs At Drai’s In Vegas

This is a pretty easy choice to make for most women who we know!

Coming off huge performances at All-Star Weekend, Hennessy Brand Ambassador and Hip Hop Icon, Nas performed his catalog of hits at Vegas hot spot, Drai’s Beach Club nightclub last night.

He was joined by Jas Prince, the son of Rap-A-Lot founder J.Prince, who is credited with discovering Drake. Jas was a special guest of Nas, along with Demarcus Cousins, who flaunted his OVO chain at Marquee. Drumma Boy was also seen on the scene.

Taraji P. Henson Speaks On “Empire’s” Alleged Barack Obama Backlash

Taraji P. Henson is clarifying part of her interview with “Uptown Magazine” that detailed a scene in “Empire” when Hakeem dubbed President Obama a sellout.

By the time you read this, there will have been enough stereotype-laden episodes aired on Empire to keep your tongues wagging and your Twitter soapbox on fleek. Since the pilot, backlash about homosexual and black stereotypes has kicked up—some creating harsh social media sparring, some sprinkled nonchalantly over the dinner table.

Either way, talk is good, according to the show’s leading lady. “I’m just proud that people are talking. Everybody don’t like Barack Obama,” she says, referencing the second episode of the season where her on-screen son, Hakeem (Gray) slams the POTUS, calling him a sellout. “People are out there saying that. That’s what art is supposed to do: expose this s***. You know, we’re dealing with subject matter that’s not really dealt with.

Art is supposed to challenge, start a conversation, so let’s lift the carpet up and deal with this dirt. It’s not like we bashed Barack Obama and the show went off. No, Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) jumped in his [son’s] a**. That’s real life stuff. So I’m glad you’re mad. Do something about it. Go in the hood and talk to the kids so they don’t do dumb stuff like that.”

The interview has since spurned headlines that the controversial scene created backlash from folks who couldn’t believe that Lee Daniels would write a scene calling out The POTUS.

Superbug Infects UCLA Hospital

You’re supposed to get well after a trip to the hospital, not come out with an even more serious condition. SMH. Via LA Times:

More than 100 patients at UCLA’s Ronald Reagan Medical Center may have been exposed to a potentially deadly bacteria from contaminated medical scopes after similar outbreaks at other hospitals across the country.

The Times has learned that seven UCLA patients have been infected by the drug-resistant superbug known as CRE, and the bacteria may have contributed to two of those patients’ deaths. Those numbers may grow as more patients get tested.

In response to questions from The Times, UCLA said it became aware of the outbreak late last month and has begun to notify patients and offer them medical tests. By some estimates, if the infection spreads to a person’s bloodstream, CRE can kill 40% to 50% of its patients.

At issue is a specialized endoscope inserted down the throats of about 500,000 patients annually to treat cancers, gallstones and other ailments of the digestive system. Medical experts say the design of some scopes causes them to hold on to bacteria that can be difficult to disinfect through conventional cleaning, so infections are transmitted from patient to patient.

Gross! They need to figure out a better way to clean their tools…

Katy Perry Reportedly Pregnant By John Mayer

Katy Perry was just dancing with Diplo, but recently hopped back on with her on-again/off-again boyfriend John Mayer. Looks like these two might want to look into maintaining a decent “on” phase, since rumor has it that Katy is knocked up with her first child via Mr. Mayer. Via HollywoodLife:

Now that Katy and John are rumored to have rekindled their romance, the couple are ready to take the next step — or two — together, reports OK! magazine.

“The buzz in her close group of friends is that she’s two months pregnant,” a source close to the “Roar” singer shared with the magazine.

“They’re getting married in April,” the source continued.

The source went on to share that Katy was “nervous” to tell John because of their rocky history, but that once he found out their exciting news he was all in.

“He adores Katy and has been a mess since their last break up,” the source explained. “He wants to start a family.”

According to the source, Katy couldn’t be happier to hear that her on-again man wants to start their lives together.

“They want to spend their lives together, and it looks like that’s exactly what’s going to happen.”

Hmmm…time will tell if this one is true. But congrats in the meantime!

Doctors Perform Tracheotomy On Bobbi Kristina & Prepare To Bring Her Out Of Coma

According to E! News reports, doctors have performed a tracheotomy on Bobbi Kristina Brown and are preparing to bring her out of the medically-induced coma that she was placed in a little over 2 weeks ago. The 21-year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston has been hospitalized since January 31, 2015 after she was found face down in a bathtub full of water inside her home.

We certainly hope these reports are factual and that Bobbi Kris is on the road to recovery. Check out the video above for details.

Black Actresses Attend “Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree” & ESSENCE’S Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon

Even the Oscars are so white that they practically whitewashed the whole ceremony, a bevy of black creatives are taking time out to celebrate each other’s achievements in Hollywood.

On Wednesday Aflre Woodard and a number of her colleagues honored director Ava DuVernay and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw at the annual “Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree.”

In addition to Alfre’s celebration, several actresses are currently flooding Los Angeles today for ESSENCE’s swanky Black Women In Hollywood luncheon.

Congressional Black Caucus: President Obama Doesn’t Care About Struggling HBCUs

President Obama has received flack from the black community for nearly his entire time in office over claims that he supposedly neglects HBCUs and now a new report from the CBC is echoing those sentiments.

A report from Congressional Black Caucus blog CrewOf42.com quotes several members of the caucus saying that President Barack Obama offered harsh criticism of black colleges during a meeting with the caucus earlier this week.

In his first meeting with the caucus in nearly two years, President Obama said that low graduation rates, not federal funding cuts or his community college free tuition plan, were the greatest threats to HBCUs.

“He said there were some HBCUs that were not good at graduating students and if they did not improve they’d have to go by the wayside,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA).  “In other words he didn’t show much empathy for struggling HBCUs. It was like show me the numbers and if the numbers aren’t where they need to be, that’s it. It was a somewhat callous view of the unique niche HBCUs fill,” Rep. Johnson, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, said. Rep. Johnson said there needs to be a deeper discussion with the President on HBCU issues.

Other legislators shared the sentiments.

The CBC’s First Vice Chair, Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) said, “I was concerned about what the President said because it feeds into a narrative about the value of these institutions and whether they are equip to educate our students and what the cost is for doing so,” Rep. Clarke added.  “Many of these institutions have not had a maintenance of effort on the part of states or the federal government and over time that wears on their ability to maintain standards or even advance beyond a certain level. It was very clear that he doesn’t have the same level of appreciation for what these institutions have done and could do in the future given the right support systems,” Rep. Clarke concluded.

President Obama clearly has a million things on his plate and it seems no matter how many of them he’s able to tend to, there’s always someone left dissatisfied with how he decides to handle things. Do you agree with the CBC’s comments? Let’s discuss.

Wendy Williams went in on Black haters who don’t want the oh-so-wonderful Iggy Azalea to dominate rap because she’s white. She says “her people” need to just get over it and let the Australian culture-vulture rap princess win. Wendy capes up for Iggy around the 6:30 mark.

Suge Knight Taken Out Of Court By Ambulance

Poor Suge just keeps collapsing and having medical issues left and right. The former mogul had to be carted away by a medical team from an LA courtroom once again on Thursday for undisclosed ailments. Oddly enough, this court appearance had nothing to do with the hit-and-run death case he’s also facing, bur rather the September incident in which he and Katt Williams were accused of stealing a fan’s phone. Via PageSix:

Former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was taken from a Los Angeles courthouse for an undisclosed medical issue.

Knight was scheduled to appear in court Thursday for arraignment on a criminal threats charge and for a scheduling hearing in a robbery case, but he never appeared in the courtroom.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman Mary Hearn says Knight was taken away by ambulance but there was no information on why.

The Sheriff’s Department did not have any immediate information on Knight’s condition.

Knight was charged with robbery after a photographer reported that Knight and comedian Katt Williams stole her camera in September. Knight has pleaded not guilty to robbery and prosecutors recently added a criminal threats charge.

Kim Kardashian Has A Professional Photoshop Artist For Her Instagram Shots

Rumors have always swirled that Kimmy Cakes chops and screws her Instagram pics to look picture perfect in every shot. But it appears that she’s taking it a level above filters and photoshop — hiring a full-time photo pro to professionally edit her Instas before she posts them.

According to OK! Magazine, though Kim’s filter game has been strong for years, she got sick of handling the editing job between herself and her friends, so she sought out professional assistance.

“Kim used to ask a friend to fix up photos, but it would take hours. She finally decided to hire a pro who can be on call 24/7.”

It’s a demanding job too — the editor needs to have their phone on-hand 24/7 in case Kim is overseas and wants to post a late-night snap. He/she is also under contract to completely destroy all trace of the originals, lest Kim end up in a Beyonce situation. But worth it in the end…apparently this Insta-Magician takes home about $100k a year for their troubles.

French Montana Spotted Serenading Khloe Kardashian During All-Star Weekend

Despite multiple reports suggesting that Bad Boy rapper French Montana and girlfriend Khloe Kardashian have split, it appears that they are indeed still  together.

Khloe took her talents to NYC for the 2015 All-Star Weekend festivities last weekend, and according to BOSSIP sources who were in attendance at the Indayo Group party hosted by French, the two were very much coupled up.

The party was held at The VIP Room in NYC’s infamous Meatpacking District, and while French arrived with at least 20 of his closest friends, he kept Khloe close by his side for the duration of the event and even serenaded her while on the mic.

French has also spoken up in recent months to say that he and Khloe are taking things a day at a time amid additional rumors that she’s currently struggling to choose between French and her not-quite-yet ex husband Lamar Odom. Do you think Khloe and French are in it for the long haul, Bossip fam?

Trai Byers From “Empire”

You might not know his government name, but if you’re an “Empire” fan than you’ve no doubt noticed the star power of Trai Byers.

Beyers plays Andre Lyon, the shady dealing, medication needing, fully clothed shower taking son of Lucious Lyon who’ll do anything (and we mean anything) to ensure the perpetuity of his father’s record label.

Oh—and ladies, in between all that doctor diagnosed bipolar behavior, Byers definitley isn’t bad to look at.
