Will Smith Says Jaden Only Has One Pair Of Shoes

Will Smith recently opened up on his enigma of a child, Jaden Smith. With the young boy making a name for himself recently for being introspective to a fault and some would say just plain odd, Will gave a bit of insight into the way his youngest son thinks.

As Will revealed to Esquire Magazine, Jaden simply refuses to be a “slave to money,” and doesn’t want to feel like he needs anything material that badly:

You never lose the mentality. It’s such a strange thing. Jaden, my sixteen-year-old, he has one pair of shoes. He has three pair of pants and he has five shirts. Total.

He has refused to be a slave to money. I so respect that. The younger generation is less of an ownership generation, anyway. And it’s such an interesting thing to watch, because I came from a middle-class background, but, you know, our lights and gas would be cut off from not paying the bill. I grew up in a house where you would need the kerosene heaters in the winter in case the bills didn’t get paid. And he’s from the complete other end of the spectrum. And it’s so interesting to me that from growing up in that space, he could see the need for things in a way that he’s rejecting. He’s like, “I’m not gonna let myself need things in that way” — but I would like him to get another pair of shoes.

Well, we have to say, that is a very healthy mentality on the surface. But Jaden…bruh. At least get a pair of chucks or something. Switch it up every now and then!

FBI Director Admits That Cops Treat All Black Men Like Criminals

The director of the FBI has publicly addressed the ongoing issue of police brutality against young black men and even he admits that changes need to be made.

FBI Director James Comey took on the issue of police and race relations Thursday challenging police to avoid “lazy mental short-cuts” that can lead to bias in the way they treat blacks and other minorities.

While he asked minority communities dealing with issues of high crime to also recognize the inherent dangers officers face in trying to keep them safe, Comey was also critical of the history law enforcement in the country, which he described as “not pretty,” but also the racial tensions have plagued American society as a whole.

“I worry that this incredibly important and difficult conversation about race and policing has become focused entirely on the nature and character of law enforcement officers when it should also be about something much harder to discuss,” Comey said. “Debating the nature of policing is very important but I worry that it has become an excuse at times to avoid doing something harder.”

Comey also name checked the deaths of Eric Garner, Michael Brown as well as slain police officers NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, a reference to what has been a bloody and tumultuous year between minority communities and law enforcement.

The speech before students at Georgetown University was unusual for Comey and the FBI, which usually only narrowly discusses race issues when dealing with civil rights investigations.

This agency in particular for decades had a conflicted relationship with African Americans, spending years monitoring and investigating civil rights leaders including Rev. Martin Luther King on suspicion of ties to communism.

“Police officers on patrol in our nation’s cities often work in environments where a hugely disproportionate percentage of street crime is committed by young men of color. Something happens to people of good will working in that environment,” Comey said.

As a result, he said, officers often treat young black men, who may look like others they have locked up, differently from young white men walking down the same street.

“We need to come to grips with the fact that this behavior complicates the relationship between police and communities they serve,” Comey said.

Hearing the FBI director admit to this at least signified a step in the right direction. We’ll see what else is to follow….

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Slams “Racist” Kanye For Defending Beyonce At The Grammys

Everyone and their momma has something to say to Kanye West about his behavior at this year’s Grammy Awards, but we weren’t expecting to hear from an NBA legend…

Every year during awards season — which seems to last longer than the NBA season and have more flagrant fouls — outrage is expressed over those who are snubbed. In typical shoot-from-the-lip fashion, Kanye West on Sunday night denounced Beck winning the Album of the Year instead of Beyonce. “I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” he threatened. “We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce.”

There are several obvious things wrong with that outburst, including that it’s an insult to Beyonce as an artist and as a woman. But, more important, it once again highlights the monumental significance of Beyonce as a cultural icon that goes beyond her music. When we look more closely, we can see that whether she’s being defended or criticized, she’s often treated as a symbol in service of a sinister agenda.

Let’s start with Kanye’s misguided comments.

Beyonce has won 20 Grammys and, with 52 nominations, is the third-most-nominated woman in history. Beck has 5 Grammys out of 16 nominations. In 2009, The Observer crowned her the Artist of the Decade, while Billboard named her the Top Female Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist of the Decade. Since then she’s won a mansion full of awards and has sold more than 118 million records worldwide. Her artistry has been acknowledged.

West also said, “And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyonce album and they feel like it takes them to another place.” Given the length, critical acclaim, and success of his career, Beck has inspired people, too. So, West isn’t really talking about inspiration, he’s talking sales, equating popularity with artistry, which no one past 15 years old would do. Beyonce’s nominated album sold 1.3 million copies in the first 17 days of release. Beck’s winning album, Morning Phase, was the lowest selling Album of the Year nominee, with 301,000. If the Grammys weren’t rewarding artistry, what were they rewarding? Floppy hair?

En Vogue Sued Over Comeback Album

Remember when En Vogue was a 90s powerhouse group raking in cash off record sales?? Those days are apparently long gone and the foursome which has now been stripped down to a trio, is struggling.

The remaining ladies of En Vogue Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis and Maxine Jones, are currently facing a $100 million lawsuit after a failed 2010 comeback album.

TMZ reports:

En Vogue cheated on their record label and cost them over $100M … so says the company suing the group for leaving them high and dry for another label.

According to the legal docs … Rufftown Entertainment owner Rene Moore says he doled out $190K to front a huge En Vogue comeback in 2010 with OG members Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis and Maxine Jones that never happened.

TMZ even found video of them in the studio in 2011 excitedly laying down tracks … but cut to 4 years later … Moore says they never toured or cut an album and signed with another label — Pyramid Records — in 2014.

He believes they’ve cost him a fortune and wants both the group and Pyramid to cough up any potential money they cost him — to the tune of well over $100 million.

Like they’ve sang, it ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings.

Keyshia Cole Still Open To Working Things Out With Husband Boobie Gibson

Looks like Khloe Kardashian-Odom isn’t the only celebrity who still has a soft spot with her dirty dog baller hubby! In a recent interview with HipHollywood.com Keyshia Cole revealed she’d still consider reconciling with her estranged husband Boobie Gibson.

In March 2014, Keyshia announced that she and her NBA playing husband had decided to go their separate ways. This came after months of rumors speculating that Boobie had been unfaithful. Although, they are currently still separated, Cole tells HipHollywood that, because of their four year old son DJ, that could change. When asked if she had reached her breaking point with Gibson, she replied, “I don’t know if I’ve reached that point yet. I’m still trying to figure that out because I have a child, so, of course, he’s going to come before me”.

But, even though the “Love” singer gave an “mmm hmm” when asked if a reconciliation was possible, she was also very honest when she said the thought of being back with Boobie scared her. “Hell yea … I got my pistol by my bed,” Keysh said with a laugh.

The soulful singer is set to open up about her marriage and more as she allows reality TV cameras to follow her once again for her new show “Keyshia Cole: All In”. Aside from marital issues with Daniel, Cole will also attempt to solve some family issues with her mother and sisters, Neffe and Elite while the cameras roll. “All In” premieres on Tuesday, February 24th at 9:30P/8:30C on BET.

Woman Steals 758 Pairs Of Panties

Surely because Valentine’s Day is around the corner, a woman in Georgia pilfered nearly 800 pairs of panties.

Police were called to Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall (of course!) where an unidentified suspect made out with the lingerie loot estimated to be worth more than $10,000.

Somebody is CLEARLY getting lucky…

The AJC reports:

Atlanta police are searching for a shoplifter who appears to have Valentine’s Day sales in mind.

A woman pilfered 785 pairs of panties at the Victoria’s Secret at Lenox Square Mall on Saturday, Officer Ralph Woolfolk said Thursday.

The suspected thief put the panties in three shopping bags in a raid on the store lasting two hours and absconded, Woolfolk said.

Retail for the panties was estimated at more than $10,000.

Atlanta detectives hope the public can help and have released surveillance photos of the suspect, described as a black woman wearing a red hat, a white and black T-shirt, a black jacket, blue jeans, and red and white tennis shoes.

Anyone who knows the identity of the individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers.

Drake actually managed not to do to much moping over strippers in his latest album, the surprise pay-for-it mixtape, “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late.” However, speculation is rising that Drake does briefly hint at his on-again, off again relationship with sometimes bae Rihanna with a few of his lyrics on the track “You & The 6.”

In the song, Drake is talking to his mother about a variety of issues in his life, and the topic turns to love. He notes how his mother never approves of the women he’s with, and gets google alerts about his love life:

Since Drake’s been rumored to mess with Rihanna since back in 2009, it’s a safe bet to assume that’s the main chick his mother would be concerned about him getting back with, right?

Israel Admits To Injecting Black Immigrants With Birth Control Without Their Consent

Forcible birth control is reportedly a huge problem in Israel and one journalist uncovered even more about the ugly truth behind the practice.

Israel has admitted that it forcibly and without consent gave birth control injections to Ethiopian Jewish immigrants, according to a report in Haaretz. An investigative journalist uncovered the fact that most of the women who were given the birth control shots were not aware they were being given birth control and did not consent. Since that discovery, Health Ministry Director General Prof Ron Gamzu has acknowledged in a letter to Israeli health maintenance organizations that Black Jewish immigrants were given the shots.

One woman, who declined to give her name, says that the only reason she complied with receiving the birth control injections was because she was threatened with her immigration to Israel being blocked. These women represent a handful of the women affected by this unethical act. In just the last decade, more than 50,000 Ethiopian Jews have immigrated to Israel, with almost 100,000 immigrating since the 1980s.

According to a New York Times report, Israel has historically made birth rates and demographics a political issue as the country focuses on trying to promote Jewish birthrates in order to retain a Jewish majority. It is estimated that Israel’s deceptive use of the birth control shots could be a significant factor in why the birthrate of Israel’s Ethiopian community has dropped by some 50 percent.

Israel’s health ministry has vehemently denied the forcible use of the birth control shots. A spokesperson for the department states, “The Israel ministry of health neither advises nor encourages the use of Depo-Provera injections and if they are being administered this is in despite of our view.”

Family Sources Claim Bobbi Kristina Is Dying

We have been praying for a miracle, but the latest reports about Bobbi Kristina’s condition are pretty bleak.

According to TMZ reports:

Bobby Kristina’s organs are shutting down and reliable family sources say at this point it doesn’t matter if Bobby Brown withdraws life support … she’s dying.

As we reported … when Bobbi Kristina was taken to the hospital 2 weeks ago her brain activity was minimal. A few days later she showed an improvement in brain function but we’re told her condition has since deteriorated.

We’re told several organs are already shutting down and the family now fully understands.
Bobby Brown is holding strong to his religious view and is saying he will do what it takes to keep his daughter alive, even if it’s just on life support with no long-term hope. Some members of Bobby’s family disagree with his decision but will respect it.

This is so sad. Our prayers are with Bobbi Kris and the Houston and Brown families.

Beyoncé had girls’ night out on Fashion Week’s opening night with her cousin Angie Beyince and Carmelo Anthony’s wife La La. Spies said that after seeing Kanye West’s Flatiron concert, the trio headed to Jay Z’s 40/40 Club, then to the Griffin.

“They were dancing a ton and just having fun, drinking Ace of Spades Champagne,” a Griffin spy said. “Carmelo showed up late, and it looked like he was intruding on their night, so he stayed out of their way. They left late, around 2:30 a.m.”

How’s the tour [with Elle Varner] been so far?

It’s been great, can’t complain about it.

Do you have a favorite stop?

I always love New York. New York is always super turnt up. It’s always a lot to do, always a lot going on. I’m somebody who likes a whole bunch of work. I’d rather just go, go, go, ’cause once I stop, I just crash. But it’s been fun and Elle is super cool to be on tour with. Always love her voice.

Have you guys had a chance to work together? Will you?

No we haven’t had the chance to work together, yet. I’m almost certain that we definitely are going to do something together. Like I said I love her voice and I think if we were to do something together it would be pretty crazy.

Anything in particular that’s inspired you?

Yeah, just seeing myself evolve and transcend; to always be able to look back and see where I started. I run into people that I saw in the beginning and they say ‘I see your grind. Your work is impeccable.’ And for me it’s just normal days at work so I don’t always get to see how hard me and my team are going because I love this and this is what I’ve always dreamed of doing. And just seeing different cities. Like, the fact that I go to sleep in one city, wake up and go to another city, and fall asleep in the next city, that’s inspiring in itself to me; to keep going and to keep giving my all. Because obviously, it’s doing something.

What about outside of yourself? Are there any artists that inspire you?

…My iPod is spread out. It’s very broad. I go from 7/11 to Drake to some Coldplay, Ty Dolla $ign, then flip it back to Whitney Houston. All artists inspire me though. I know it sounds cliché to say that, but they do. I look at everybody’s struggle, I’ve looked at everybody’s grind. I watch people’s mistakes, people’s great choices and I try to remember. I try to always think about those choices when I’m making decisions or when I’m writing.

When we think about you, we think about Oakland. With everything going on – especially with all of the protesting due to Eric Garner and Mike Brown how is home? Oakland was definitely one of the places for protest.

East Oakland in the building! Yeah they shut the whole 580 down. They were just protesting and everything. It definitely touched the city hard.

Have those situations inspired you?

I think those events, on top of history in my city and cities like it, it’s always been an inspiration. That’s why I’m such a fighter for love. Even deeper than that, there’s a problem between the battle of the sexes right now, between men and women. And, I try to do what I do best to touch the world and that’s through music. So I try to put as much positivity and positive energy in my music to get them through their struggle, whatever that struggle may be. Whether it’s politics, whether it’s just life, whether it’s relationships, it doesn’t matter, I want to touch people and give them hope. That’s how we build, first of all, is through love and the best way for me is through my music.

1 Killed In Terrorist Attack At Free Speech Event

Valentine’s Day has been marred already, thanks to a terrorist attack that claimed the life of a civilian and injured three police officers in Denmark.

According to NY Daily News reports:

At least one civilian was killed and three Denmark police officers were shot and wounded during a Copenhagen cafe free speech debate hosted by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has been threatened for drawing the Prophet Muhammed, police said.

Two Danish-speaking gunmen, dressed in dark clothes, are on the loose.

About 30 bullets burst threw the windows of Krudttoenden cafe in northern Copenhagen Saturday after French Ambassador Francois Zimeray had just finished speaking, police said.

“They fired on us from the outside,” Zimeray told AFP. “It was the same intention as the Charlie Hebdo attack except they didn’t manage to get in.”

The gunmen sped off in a dark Volkswagen Polo just after the shooting around 4 p.m., police said. Authorities said they found the abandoned car in eastern Copenhagen a little while later.

A 40-year-old man who was attending the event died, police said in a statement. They did not release any other details.

Three police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police told reporters at 7 p.m. local time. One was struck in the groin, another in the leg and the third in the shoulder.

We’re praying for speedy recoveries for the officers involved.

The attempt was quite similar to the recent attack in Paris, raising concerns throughout Europe.

Police are investigating whether the shooting is an assassination attempt on Vilks, who is under police protection whenever he comes to Denmark, incident commander Jørgen Petersen told TV2.

At least 13 people were arrested in connection to plots to kill Vilks after he drew the Muslim Prophet as a dog in 2007. Two brothers tried to burn down his house in 2010 and were arrested for arson.

Vilks, 68, said he had received fewer invitations to give lectures because of increased security concerns after Islamic militants attacked the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine offices in Paris last month.

“This will create fear among people on a whole different level than we’re used to,” he said. “Charlie Hebdo was a small oasis. Not many dared do what they did.”

The Copenhagen tragedy is reminiscent of the Paris attacks, the former head of operations at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service said. The gunmen used automatic weapons in a well-planned attack, just like the Paris terrorists, he said.

This is terrible. What has the world come to? No one is safe anywhere.
