Atlanta Fire Chief Fired For Insulting Gays In New Book Sues

Atlanta’s former fire chief has been suspended for one month without pay for offensive and homophobic comments in his self-published book, “Who Told You That You Were Naked?”

Via Fox News reports:

Former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran says he was fired because he wrote a book expressing his Christian faith, according to a discrimination complaint filed Jan. 19 with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“I believe that I have been discriminated against because of my religion,” Cochran wrote in the complaint.

His attorney, Jeremy Tedesco of the Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith, said the ADA wants to vindicate the former fire chief following his “unjust termination.”

The mayor may have the LGBT activists, the union and The New York Times on his side – but Chief Cochran has some much bigger firepower – the nation’s evangelical community.
“Americans are guaranteed the freedom to live without fear of losing their jobs because of their beliefs and thoughts,” Tedesco said.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed threatened that the former fire chief’s reputation would be destroyed should he file a lawsuit.

“He’s gonna lose,” Reed told television station WAGA. “And in the process his reputation is going to be destroyed because people are going to see he’s dishonest.”

The EEOC complaint is the latest move in a battle between Cochran and Reed that has generated a national debate over religious liberty in the public marketplace since it began in November.

Cochran was suspended without pay on Nov. 24 for writing a book about biblical morality, “Who Told You That You Were Naked?” He said homosexuality is “vile” and listed it among other forms of “sexual perversions.”

He was also accused of giving the book to colleagues at work with whom he had personal friendships.

An investigation by the city of Atlanta found that “firefighters throughout the organization are appalled by the sentiments expressed in the book.”

The report went on to say that “there is also general agreement the contents of the book have eroded trust and have compromised the ability of the chief to provide leadership in the future.”

Do you think the fire chief’s comments warranted his dismissal??

Lee Daniels Talks About Sex With Boyfriend Jhalil Fisher In Interview

Director Lee Daniels recently opened up about his love life and relationship of 5 years with boyfriend Jahil Fisher. The couple chatted with gay publication Out, and revealed how they met and how they keep things hot in the bedroom.

“I heard his voice before I saw him, and that’s what attracted me first — the laughter. Then I was blown away by his sense of humor. He’s pure and in the moment, and he doesn’t have a poker face. When he’s happy, it’s like happiness on steroids, and his physical features change if he’s upset. I hide my stuff well — I’ve learned to. But he doesn’t. And he makes me laugh. It’s a completely different mind-set: He introduced me to The Real Housewives of Atlanta and he’s best friends with the Kardashians’ hairstylist. He’s very hip, and he brings all of that into my antiquated way of thinking.”

Lee talks about the 20 year age difference between him and his stylist boo:

“[I]t’s tricky. I’m 55 and he’s 33, so there’s a huge age difference between us, and I’m nervous about that. Thinking of the future, I get very Demi Moore–ish about it all. But if I’m living in the now, I know that each of my relationships has given me something important. My first gave me kids. My second gave me stability. This one — he makes me feel more responsible and accountable.”

So how are things in the bedroom?

“[T]he sex is continually off the chain. I remember first being attracted to his legs, and it’s nice to be in a relationship where, five years in, the sex is still there. That’s unique for me, because I get bored quickly.”

Lee’s boyfriend even says he’s still wary of the attention and celebrity that comes with his Hollywood man:

“I feel very protective of him. He was bullied horrifically as a kid, and he’s still bullied on the streets. And it’s hard for him when we’re in public. I’ve seen people push him out of the way to have a conversation with me. It’s the nature of the beast, but it’s disturbing, and I’ve freaked out. And while he has his own identity, I know he gets lonely during my absences, which can be weeks on end sometimes. That’s why I’ve decided that whatever film I’m doing now has to be shot in New York City — so I can be close to him.”

Black Sheriff Blames Absentee Fathers For Police Killing Of Young Black Men

via Washington Times

Sheriff David Clarke, Milwaukee County’s tough-talking, outspoken law enforcement official, called the NAACP an irrelevant “propaganda” tool for the political left and said it was frequently the “behavior of black men,” not racial injustice, that was the cause of much police-community consternation nowadays.

He made the comments during an interview on “Fox & Friends” about the recent St. Paul police shooting of a black suspect who reportedly pointed a gun at police as he fled their grip. Police shot and killed the man, and the NAACP, in response, called for an investigation, saying officers ought to have questioned and interviewed the suspect — despite his show of armed aggression — rather than shot him.

Sheriff Clarke called the shooting “a good shoot,” a “justifiable shooting,” and explained how the man who was shot and killed by police was actually reported to be stalking and making death threats to his former girlfriend. He then issued a sharp rebuke to the NAACP for its response.

“This once proud organization that was a force for good” hasn’t conducted any worthwhile campaigns since 1964, over the Civil Rights Act, he said during the broadcast. “[It’s now] nothing more than a political propaganda entity for the left.”

Sheriff Clarke also said that blacks in America ought to look at their own behaviors, rather than simply faulting and crying racism whenever they face police actions. He added: The absence of fathers in black families’ homes was fueling the crime rates seen in minority communities.

“The behavior is what we should be talking about,” he said. “The number one cause of this is father-absent homes.”

Jasmine Burke Interview

Jasmine Burke recently made waves with alongside Alexandra Shipp in “Drumline: A New Beat” and now she’s preparing to share with the world an exciting lead role.

In between writing and cultivating her musical talent as seen on MTV’s “Making Tha Band”, Burke has been busy working alongside LisaRaye on a film that explores African-American’s deep seeded issues with colorism in America.

Below this beauty dishes on her latest music and television ventures including a stint on BOSSIP’s forthcoming TV show.

Tell us about your background.

I got started very, very young as a little tater tot in elementary school. I was always outspoken, a ball of energy, even as little as kindergartner. If the teacher said ‘Ok I need someone to do the example’, I was like the first one with my hand up. I couldn’t wait to get in front of everybody and say something. So it’s just been in me from a young age. I did every talent show, in theater my whole school life. [I was the] cheerleader captain; dance team captain; just always out there performing and loved it. The acting bug officially materialized with me being in a play in middle school and ever since then I’ve been doing theater,

And with theater is that how you got into music as well?

Yes, musical theater. In school we did a lot of musical theater. We didn’t do a lot of traditional theater. So I had a chance to sing and dance with that at a very, very young age. I always knew I could do it but it just wasn’t until college where I said I want to see what film and television is about since I’d been doing theater all my life.

jasmineburke

You’ve got a single and music video out called “Skin I’m In.” What inspired you to come out with that song?

I was on “Making Da Band” ten years ago and I was a finalist on there and this year will make the 10 year anniversary of me being a finalist on [the show]. People always ask me, yeah they see me on TV shows and movies, but they always remember me from making the band. And I always tell people, which is the truth, that I never left music, it’s just you haven’t seen me doing it behind the scenes. So if I’m in a movie a lot of times I’ll write a song for the movie or the TV show and it’ll be put in that project.

So I did a song for the movie “Skinned” with LisaRaye and I was so inspired by the story because the message is amazing. And the story is about a woman, my character Jolie, who bleaches her skin in order to become beautiful and desirable, get the life she always wanted, the man she always wanted. She thinks it’s the outer that’s going to give her all those things. And you can see her journey as she finds out it has nothing to do with the outside, but the inside. So the song comes from telling people to love the skin that you are in because it was given to you by The Creator and The Creator doesn’t make any mistakes. So it’s a really positive song that’s going to uplift people and that I believe will be a mantra for self love.

jasmineburke2

This is LisaRaye’s directorial debut. What is it like working with her?

She is definitely a boss, her presence demands respect—she doesn’t play. I didn’t see anything wrong with that because it really inspired me as a younger woman that’s coming up in the ranks that when you work hard people respect your work and beyond that it’s how you carry yourself. So she carries herself like a woman who knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want and she’s not afraid to tell you if that’s not what she wants and will give it to you with a straight face and dare you to say something about it. (laughs) I got a chance to spend a lot of time with her one on one and just talk to her woman to woman and her mentor me in that time we spent together. She’s a lady who knows what she wants and she demands respect and that’s just the way it’s going to be and I loved it.

Talk to me more about why you think a film about colorism is so important these days.

Well you have people now where the scale is not balanced on the representation of beauty, it’s not an even spectrum. You don’t see rainbow, you just see one representation and when you do see others it’s only one in a few. Lupita came along and it’s all ‘Oh my god, look at this exotic beauty’ but I’m like I see beautiful people like Lupita every day, and on top of that I run into them in the business. So a movie like Skinned which explores not from a documentary standpoint but from a moving picture with entertainment purposes, it explores what happens when society, and a lot of times it can be the closest people to you, impose these unhealthy ideals of the standards of beauty on you for years and years.

And that’s what happened to my character Jolie. It starts when she’s a child and it starts in the family. She’ s the only dark one in her family, everybody else is light bright. So she felt like an outcast from the beginning. So it didn’t help with her sisters picking on her. It didn’t help when her auntie is saying ‘who is this little chocolate drop? Children hear these things— these things hurt and children remember them and it shakes them.

Skinned

So “Skinned” is important because it shows how this can affect a person after years and years of this type of conditioning and the detriment that this could cause. And for a person going through the struggle, changing yourself is not the solution; it’s changing your mind about how you see yourself. That’s why this is so pertinent in this day and time because although it comes from one person’s perspective, people can [relate]. So, I’m happy to use my gift to shed some light on a topic that is so important and I really hope it does change some lives.

I know Bill Duke started a conversation with his “Dark Girls” & “Light Girls” documentary but Skinned is different because it’s not talking about a person is dark skinned and having problems or light skinned having issues; its about a person who from society’s pressure, makes her feel like she needs to change herself to be beautiful. Skin bleaching is huge, it’s a worldwide epidemic.

What is the premiere date?

We are an official selection at the Pan African Film Festival. So the world premiere will be February 7th at the festival and it will be in theaters in the spring of this year.

What’s next for 2015?

Well in 2015 I’m finally going to release music publicly with “Skin I’m In”I shoot a music vid for that on Sunday and I’m going to do a short documentary to kind of catch people up on why people haven’t heard music from me publically since Making Da Band. So it’s going to be a short little 5-minute documentary to kind of tell you why it’s been taking so long. [Making @TheJasmineBurke], which is a play on Making Da Band. Then Bossip TV; I started that and it’s an awesome comedy about Bossip.com. Fictional characters who work at Bossip and that’s really exciting as all get out. And then Skinned. So music, movies, and TV shows. I’m doing it all.

How can people keep up with you on social media?

My handle is @TheJasmineBurke. I love to talk back when I have downtime.

Ne-Yo Speaks On His New Album Non-Fiction, Monyetta Shaw, Reality TV, Chris Brown & More

Multi-talented R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo has been churning out hits for nearly a decade now and we recently caught up with him just as he released his latest album “Non-Fiction.” During our exclusive chat, Ne-Yo spoke on everything from the interesting concept behind his new album, approaching his girl about having a three-way, why he’s inspired by Usher, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Miguel, his current relationship with his ex Monyetta Shaw, whether or not he’s introduced her to his new girlfriend Crystal, the state of R&B music and more.

Check out the full interview below:

What’s the biggest difference in you as an artist today versus 9 years ago when you put out your first album?
I don’t really feel like it’s something that should be compared to where I’ve done or what I’ve been. That’s the true essence of growth. It’s not about where you came from, it’s about where you’re going and where you are.

Getting into a few of the tracks on Non-Fiction, you have an interlude on the album titled “Everybody Loves” where you speak about a woman who only comes around to notoriety. Is this something you’ve experienced?
That was definitely something that I’ve experienced; I’ve been in that place before.

There’s 3 women that are represented on this album. The first one, Tammy Vanity, represents that girl that is absolutely beautiful, gorgeous, her body is insane. She’s a little shallow with it and has a bit of a track record. Like the song says, she comes around when she knows there’s an award show or a party where she knows there’s going to be other celebrities. Nice little piece of arm candy but not anything that you would consider wifing up. Then we have Integrity Jones who is that woman that every guy claims that he wants. She’s about her business, she’s doing something with her life. If she has a track record, it is exceptionally better than say, a Tammy Vanity type. She’s the “wifey material.” She’s a bit more rare than a Tammy Vanity type but, she does exist. The third woman represents temptation. Should a guy be lucky enough to find himself an Integrity Jones type, 8 times out of 10, there’s always this woman that, for whatever reason, he just could not deny this woman in the moment. And she makes him bold enough to do something stupid in that moment to make him lose what he thought he wanted to begin with.

So, these are the 3 women represented on this album. And the thing is, every woman has these 3 women inside of her, it’s just about which one you allow to win the battle. That’s kind of what I want, especially my female, listeners to take from this album. Which one of these women are you? Own it, don’t be ashamed of it, be who you are and if you’re any of these 3 there’s a theme song on this album for you.

The song “Story Time” is about a situation where a man is approaching his woman about having a thre***me. Should guys take your advice on how to start that conversation with their woman?
I’ll put it to you this way, in that I don’t know their women, I can’t tell them how to approach their women. But I can talk to you about that situation because it’s a conversation I’ve had before. And I’m pretty sure it’s a conversation that is a bit more common now in 2015 than ever before. I’m not giving anybody advice on how to get that to get that goal, though. Don’t run up on your lady asking her for a thr***ome [laughs]. I’m letting you know now, if it goes sour for you, it aint my fault! [laughs].

The melody paired with the content of the song is actually hilarious…
I’m glad that you can laugh about it. I’ve read a few comments so far where some people were taking [the song] way more serious than it is. You hear the way the song is done, you can clearly tell than I’m doing a lighthearted take on [the topic]. It’s meant to be a little funny.

But, it’s definitely a conversation that gets had more now than not. People are a little freer with the way that they do things, in ever aspect. If you’ve been in a relationship for however long and you feel like that’s something that your man deserves or if you’re they guy, if that’s something that you want, I feel like y’all should be comfortable enough to where you can have that conversation and it not turn into something negative. It’s not something that anybody can force anyone else to do but I feel like you should be able to be honest about it.

Ne-Yo also spoke in very candid detail about rumors that he left his ex Monyetta Shaw for his current girlfriend Crystal, plans to introduce them to each other, reality TV and more. Hit the flip for the rest of the interview.

Kourtney Kardashian’s new SoCal pad doesn’t lag far behind her younger sister Kim’s in terms of luxury.

Kardashian and her partner, Scott Disick, snapped up the former home of former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson in The Oaks, an exclusive gated community in Calabasas, CA.

The sprawling 11,746-square-foot, six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home had bounced on and off the market for three years.

The house was originally listed for $10.5 million, but Kardashian snapped it up at the considerably reduced price of $8.49 million after Johnson had a much publicized feud with an unruly neighbor, pop star Justin Bieber.

Kardashian’s place features a chef’s kitchen, spa, elevator, and theater. The grounds boast a sunken basketball court, outdoor fireplace, pool with a spa, and expansive rolling lawns.

The mother of three sold her much smaller home in Calabasas for $3.5 million in June 2013. The Colonial-style abode had four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.

Kylie Jenner Says She Doesn’t Have Time To Go To School

Too busy taking selfies, huh??

Kylie Jenner may deny reports she dropped out of high school to focus on her career, but she’s hardly hitting the books, sources exclusively tell RadarOnline.com.

Via RadarOnline reports:

While the 17-year-old is enrolled in a program, “it is not schooling in the sense that she spends eight hours a day, five days a week on it,” an insider explains. “It is more like two hours a day,if that.”

“Kylie simply doesn’t have the time for school. It’s quite the hassle to her.”

And she’s not only busy partying with 25-year-old rapper boyfriend Tyga and posting provocative selfies on Instagram.

“Because of her shooting schedule for Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kylie cannot go to school like other kids, and special arrangements had to be made to allow her to shoot the show and get an education at the same time,” the insider reveals.

Though she rolls her eyes at papers and tests, the source insists the face of Kylie Hair Kouture is no dummy.

“Kylie is actually quite intelligent even though she fast-tracked high school,” the source tells Radar. “She has a lot of street smarts that she learned from her older sisters.”

Without college goals, she doesn’t feel behind most teens.

“Most kids need to put emphasis on doing well in high school so that they can go on to good colleges, but Kylie does not need that,” the source says. “She thinks she is doing just fine as it is.”

You Can’t Be Serious: NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton Plans To “Improve Community Relations” With 350 Machine Gun Toting Cops

350 NYPD Cops Armed With Machine Guns And Rifles To Assigned City Patrol Duty

Tension in New York is about skyrocket…

Via CapitalNewYork

New York City police commissioner Bill Bratton unveiled a sweeping new plan to redeploy officers in order to boost police-community relations, while also increasing the city’s counterterrorism efforts.

At a breakfast hosted by the Police Foundation at the Mandarin Oriental, Bratton announced 350 officers will be permanently assigned to rove throughout the city, with rifles and machine guns, in anticipation of possible terrorist attacks. These officers will also be used to assist on crime scenes, and help with crowd control and other large-scale events.

Previously, some of this work was done by officers assigned to local precincts throughout the city. Now, those officers will be able to stay in their regularly assigned precincts, enabling them to work in a more focused way on their beats, Bratton said.

Also, officers assigned to local precincts will see their work re-prioritized.

Bratton called it a “new patrol model for how we deploy resources.”

Though crime is down citywide, there are pockets where it is still a problem. Bratton said as many as half the officers working in local precincts have a “specialty role,” and are not in cars patrolling their sectors—subsections of a precinct.

The other half of patrol officers are often going from “call to call to call,” Bratton said.

“They never have a chance to really have time to build relationships, to work on the problems in these distressed neighborhoods,” he said. “They’re indentured to the radio, running from call to call, in a department that does not have enough police officers often times and not enough cars out there to handle all the calls as they continue to come in.”

Cops mobbing in the streets with machine guns and rifles sounds like 3rd world policing…

The plan will start in two precincts in Manhattan and two in Queens, Bratton told reporters. He said this pilot program is similar to one he began rolling out when he was an officer working in Boston in the 1970s. It was so successful in his precinct, he was promoted within the Boston department to expand the program citywide. It never happened though, because Boston ended up laying off officers before Bratton’s plan could be implemented. Bratton also said there is a similar program used in the Los Angeles Police Department, which he led for seven years in the 2000s.

Oh, yeah, because the LAPD is the model of purity when it comes to community relations…
