On this week’s episode of “Hollywood Divas,” Countess Vaughn revealed the extent of what she had been through in the past that while trying to make it in Hollywood. During a therapy session, Vaughn stated that she found herself pregnant around the age of 18 when she was beginning work on “The Parkers.” While Vaughn shined on “Moesha,” “The Parkers” was to be something she would star in, front and center, and that was a big deal for her. Do you think Renisha’s killer got a fair shake in the courtroom?
Last month, justice was served in the shooting death of Renisha McBride. However, everyone doesn’t agree with the ruling. Apparently defendant Theodore Wafer’s attorney found the ruling so unfair that she has taken a year-long sabbatical from legal practice over her guilt of not being able to get him acquitted. The last time the country, if not the world, was watching attorney Cheryl Carpenter, she broke down weeping in court.
In late August, Carpenter was arguing for leniency in the sentencing of her client, Theodore Wafer. Wafer, 55, was found guilty in the shooting death of Renisha McBride, 19, after she pounded on his front door in the middle of the night. Through tears, Carpenter pleaded Wafer “shows more remorse than any client I have ever seen.”
Now, almost a year to the day of the Nov. 2 murder that thrust Carpenter into the spotlight, she cringes at the memory.
“I’ve never cried like that in a courtroom,” she said, sitting cross-legged on her couch in her Birmingham home. “I was horrified by it. Society does not accept tears or emotion very well. Especially from attorneys.”
Still, the 44-year-old will attest: The very passion that caused her to lose her composure is the same force that draws her to the most hopeless of cases.
“The ones who are the most powerless, the ones who are the most hated and the ones who are the most prejudged are the ones I want to help the most,” she said. “It feels like my calling. I want to fight for the biggest underdog.”
Wait…so she thinks Wafer was the underdog here? O….k. But here’s what she had to say about the racial climate during the trial that she feels was unbeatable — despite what she saw as evidence to the contrary:
Still, the Wafer-McBride case came on the heels of the Trayvon Martin case in Florida which was intensely scrutinized and covered by worldwide media.
“The pressure was different than any other case I’d ever had,” she said. “We had the ghost of Trayvon Martin in the courtroom.”
In one breath, she insisted, “This case was not racial. I can say, with 100-percent confidence, that Ted did not know who was on his front porch when he saw a figure coming at him.” In the next, she said: “It didn’t help that after (George) Zimmerman was acquitted, he acted like an assaultive creep and they thought, probably, we can’t led Ted go free and maybe murder another woman.”
Last week, attorneys from the state appellate defender’s office filed an appeal of Wafer’s second-degree murder conviction.
Hmmm…what do you think Bossip fam? Was Wafer not given the same benefit of the doubt he would have been afforded pre-Trayvon??

Last week, an Illinois substitute teacher reportedly called a group of four middle school girls the N-word after they asked not to be called African-American.
The incident occurred at Jay Stream Middle School in the town of Carol Stream during an eighth-grade social studies class. When interviewed by local news outlet WMAQ, student Mea Thompson, who is of Jamaican descent, said they asked the teacher not to call them African-American since none of them are from Africa.
“She said, ‘It’s the politically correct term.’ Then she said, ‘Well, back then you guys would be considered the N-word,'” Thompson said, recalling the exchange. “We were so shocked and we were like, ‘What? Excuse me? That’s not correct to call us that.’ She was like, ‘Well, back then that’s what African-Americans were called.’”
The teacher allegedly used the N-word several times over the 80-minute class period.
“After the shock and hurt, I’m angry,” Thompson’s mother, Shayna, said. “It’s a new world, and the people of the past that still hang onto hatred and bigotry don’t belong in this world anymore.”
When reached for comment, the District Superintendent William Shields said the events in the classroom are still unclear, but said the teacher would not be returning to the school.
While the teacher has been removed from her post at the school, there seem to be some who are attempting to defend her
“We’re finding that an awful lot of the accounts on the specific words and actions are extremely inconsistent, so it’s very hard to judge this situation,” Shields told The Huffington Post. “We’re proud of the kids. We want them to be able to come to administrators and teachers to speak about issues of not feeling safe or secure. That being said … we’re not having the substitute back because the substitute attempted to teach a lesson outside the curriculum, which we didn’t authorize.”

A 3-year-old girl who was shot by her 4-year-old brother in Ohio over the weekend remained in critical condition on Monday.
Cleveland.com reported that Lorain Police responded to the scene of the shooting at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, where they found a man holding his daughter.
The girl had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and was flown to Rainbow Babies Children’s Hospital.
Officers determined that the two children had been playing alone when the boy obtained the gun and accidentally pulled the trigger.
According to WKYC, five other people were inside the home when the shooting occurred.
A handgun was recovered at the scene. The Lorain County Prosecutor had not determined if charges would be filed.

Yet another body has been found inside a suitcase as part of a suspected murder in Asia.

Hong Kong police charged a British banker on Monday with killing two women, including an Indonesian whose body was found in a suitcase on the balcony of the man’s upscale apartment, authorities said.
Rurik George Caton Jutting appeared briefly at a preliminary hearing at which he spoke only to confirm that he understood the two murder charges against him.
Police earlier said Jutting, 29, had called them to his apartment in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai nightlife and red light district at 3:42 a.m. Saturday.
Court documents listed his nationality as British and his occupation as a “banker of Bank of America.” Jutting worked for the bank until recently, Bank of America Merrill Lynch spokesman Paul Scanlon said Sunday, without providing more details.
According to a police statement, officers rushed to the man’s apartment, where they found an unresponsive woman, age 25 to 30, with cuts to her neck and buttock. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
While investigating, police found a suitcase on the balcony containing the body of a woman who had sustained neck injuries and had died a few days earlier, police said. Police also seized a knife from the 31st-floor apartment in the upscale J Residence tower.
A charge sheet said a woman named Sumarti Ningsih was killed Oct. 27, indicating she was the woman whose body was found in the suitcase. It said the other person was an “unknown female.”
Indonesian Consulate spokeswoman Sam Aryadi said Sumarti came from the city of Cilacap in central Java. He said the consulate was working with Hong Kong police to find out more about the second victim. Local media reports and Eni Lestari, an adviser with the Association of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Hong Kong, also indicated that the second woman was Indonesian.
During the brief court appearance at Eastern Magistrates’ Court, the two murder charges were read to Jutting, who had thick stubble and wore black pants and a black T-shirt with “New York” and “Champions” written on it. When asked if he understood each charge, he said “I do” twice in a calm voice. The judge granted his request to be remanded to prison detention rather than police custody. The reason for the request was unclear.
Martyn Richmond, a temporary lawyer assigned to Jutting, complained that police refused to let him contact a lawyer of his choice or the British Consulate while in custody. He added that if Jutting’s requests were granted, he “may well cooperate” with a police reconstruction at the crime scene.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 10.
This is so sad. Sumarti, the woman whose body has been identified only entered Hong Kong less than a month ago, on October 4th, using a tourist visa and she was actually supposed to go back today, since her visa expired on Nov. 3rd. The police are still trying to locate both victims families to let them know what happened.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those women’s families. We hope this scumbag is prosecuted to the fullest extent. We hate to see the rich and powerful prey on the poor.

A bizarre freak accident out of NYC has sadly left the family of a 50-year-old construction worker mourning his death.

In a freak accident that does nothing to calm your fears of objects falling from the sky and killing you, a construction worker in Jersey City died this morning after a one-pound tape measure fell 50 stories and hit him in the head.
According to the Associated Press, the 50-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was apparently not wearing a hardhat when the tape measure fell, ricocheting off construction equipment below and hitting him in the head. From NBC New York:
“As he walked over, a 1-pound tape measure fell off the belt of a contractor working on the 50th floor, bounced off a piece of metal construction equipment about 10 feet off the ground and hit him in the head, police said. He was knocked unconscious and later died at the hospital.”
