Ray J Charged With 10 Crimes Including Sexual Battery In LA
Remember when Ray J had a little too much to drink and got just a wee bit rowdy with the LAPD in a hotel bar a few months back? Well, the District Attorney remembers as well, and just charged Ray J with 10 separate crimes in connection with the incident. Via TMZ:
The L.A. County D.A. has thrown the book at Ray J … charging him Monday with 10 CRIMES in connection with his drunken antics last May … and get this — the D.A. charged Ray J with sexual battery even though cops say no such crime was committed.
Ray J was at a bar at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel when he got rowdy, brushed up against a woman’s ass and was ordered to leave. Police told TMZ at the time it was NOT a sexual battery because the contact was “incidental” — not intentional. Apparently the D.A. begs to differ.
Ray J left the bar and then went nuts in an alcohol-fueled rampage. He was arrested, kicked out the window of a cop car and spit on an officer. Ray J told TMZ … he kicked out the window because he was claustrophobic.
In addition to the misdemeanor battery charge, Ray J was charged with 4 counts of resisting arrest, 3 counts of assault and battery and 2 counts of vandalism … all misdemeanors.
Hmm, Ray J was on one that night, no doubt. But that sexual battery charge sound a bit fishy to us… Since when has Ray J ever had to beg for (or force) physical contact from the ladies?

Anti-Abortion Protestors Storm Pro-Choice Church Service
An anti-abortion gathering in New Orleans took a turn for the drastic recently when a group of angry protestors stormed a church service and demanded that it’s pro-choice members “repent” for their sins.

Hundreds of anti-choice activists are currently congregating in New Orleans to stage protests against abortion around the city, an event that’s expected to last all week long. So far, tensions have come to a head in an unexpected place: the sanctuary of a church, where abortion opponents interrupted a service to tell congregants that they don’t have a “true faith” because their denomination supports reproductive rights.
This week’s protests are being spearheaded by the national anti-abortion group Operation Save America, which used to go by the name Operation Rescue National. That far-right organization, frequently criticized for its “militant” tactics, is perhaps best known for being tied to Dr. George Tiller’s assassination. And on Sunday, as part of its week long protest in Louisiana, group members decided to take their message straight to the First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans.
As the Uptown Messenger reports, anti-abortion activists interrupted worship at the church — specifically, disrupting a moment of silence for a church member who recently passed away — to declare that this particular church isn’t a “true faith” and tell the service attendees to “repent.” Operation Save America’s opinion about the First Unitarian Universalist Church is made clear on its website, which refers to the “church” and its “pastor” in scare quotes and calls it a “synagogue of Satan.”
Rev. Deanna Vandiver, a guest speaker at the service, invited the protesters to either join the service respectfully or hold their protest outside of the building. As the congregation sang, church leaders led the loudest anti-abortion activists out of the sanctuary.
“Beloved, we have a lot of different opinions in this country about family planning. I believe, however, that there is a moral consensus about religious terrorism. NO ONE should invade the sanctuary of another’s faith to terrorize people as they worship,” Vandiver wrote on Facebook following the incident.

Questlove: Here’s the thing: the song is effective and catchy as hell, and it works. Just the over-enunciation of “hold you down”? [Laughs] It makes me chuckle because all I can see is my assistant holding a brush in the mirror and singing it.
I’m caught in between. And I defend it. I see false Instagram posts like, “She said the N-word! She said the N-word!” I’ll call people out — “Yo, don’t troll.” I know you’re ready to give your 42-page dissertation on theGrio about why this is culture vulture-ism. You know, we as black people have to come to grips that hip-hop is a contagious culture. If you love something, you gotta set it free. I will say that “Fancy,” above any song that I’ve ever heard or dealt with, is a game-changer in that fact that we’re truly going to have to come to grips with the fact that hip-hop has spread its wings.
And to tell the truth, I was saying this last year, I don’t think it’s any mistake that four or five of my favorite singers are from Australia. Like between Hiatus Kaiyote, there’s a bunch I can name for you right now, but I don’t think it’s a mistake that a lot of of my favorite artists are coming from Down Under. A lot of them more soulful than what we’re dealing with now. When you think soul music and Aretha Franklin and the Baptist-born singer, that’s sort of an idea in the past. As black people, we’re really not in the church as we used to be, and that’s reflected in the songs now.
I’m not going to lie to you, I’m torn between the opinions on the Internet, but I’mma let Iggy be Iggy. It’s not even politically correct dribble. The song is effective. I’m in the middle of the approximation of the enunciation, I’ll say. Part of me hopes she grows out of that and says it with her regular dialect — I think that would be cooler. But, yeah, “Fancy” is the song of the summer.
Sounds like a lot of tap dancing if you ask us, but what do you take away from all of this babble?

What Diversity? New Report Shows That Twitter Is Almost Exclusively Run By White Males

Looks like Google isn’t the only tech giant with a major diversity issue. As it turns out, there’s really no such thing as #BlackTwitter. Via YahooNews:
Twitter disclosed the diversity numbers for its global and U.S. employees Wednesday, following in the footsteps of Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and LinkedIn.
Like these companies, Twitter is comprised of a workforce that’s primarily white and male, especially when it comes to tech-related positions.
At Twitter, 70% of employees are male and 30% are female. When you look at the numbers for tech-related jobs, that ratio switches from 90% male employees to 10% female workers. The statistics are split straight down the middle in terms of gender for non tech jobs, and male employees account for 79% of leadership positions within the company.
The majority of Twitter’s employees are white as well. At Twitter, 59% of U.S. employees are white, while 29% are Asian, 2% or African American or Black, and 3% are Hispanic. And 72% of leadership roles are occupied by white employees.
While these numbers are troubling, Twitter isn’t the only company with a diversity problem. Facebook, Yahoo, LinkedIn, and Google all reported similar statistics earlier this year.
Similar to these companies, Twitter admits that it has a lot of work to do in the diversity department. As part of its initiative to improve diversity in Silicon Valley, Twitter says that it supports Girls Who Code, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women get into computer engineering. The social media giant also mentions that it regularly hosts Girl Geek Dinners in San Francisco and Boston.
Wow, these numbers are nearly identical to Google’s demographics. Are these tech giants just filling an extremely low preset quota of non-white faces?

Teen Girl Buries Newborn In Backyard After Botched Home Delivery
A teen girl who hid her pregnancy from family and friends was taken into custody after attempting to deliver her baby at home and burying the child in the backyard. We don’t even have the words for this one. How did her parents miss that she was pregnant for 9 months?

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested for burying her newborn daughter’s body in her family’s backyard after keeping the pregnancy a secret from her parents.
Ashley Marie Reed, from Louisburg, North Carolina, handed herself in to sheriff’s deputies in Franklin County on Tuesday and was charged with concealing and failure to report a death.
The charges are the lowest class of felony, which means the teen, who has no prior criminal record, could serve between three and eight months of community service if she is convicted, the Associated Press reported.
She was full term when she gave birth to the 8.5lb baby in June. When she tried to cut her umbilical cord, she cut it too close to the baby’s body, likely causing her to bleed to death, authorities said.
She wrapped the baby, whom she had named Emma, in a grocery bag and buried the body in her family’s backyard, police said.Sheriff Jones told the Charlotte Observer that killing the baby could have been an accident.
‘But she had ample time to do some type of planning to prevent this – plan a way to give the child up to keep this from happening,’ he said.Reed’s boyfriend, 18-year-old Aaron Davis, told WRAL that she had kept her pregnancy hidden under large shirts and jackets.
He said he had urged her to tell someone about the baby, but she was too scared to tell her parents.
‘The last couple months, I kept trying to tell her to tell somebody,’ he said. ‘I was telling her to let somebody know.’But Davis didn’t tell anyone about the imminent birth either, and his mother told WRAL that she only learned about her granddaughter after the baby had been born.
He said Reed had texted him the morning that her water broke and they had planned to meet at a church but she didn’t make it. She texted him with the bad news.
‘That was when she told me that the baby didn’t make it,’ he said.
Reed, who is out of jail after posting $50,000 bond, is scheduled to make her first court appearance on July 29.
Wait…only three to eight months of community service after killing the baby due to her OWN irresponsibility??? Willful refusal to get proper care and then burying the poor baby in the backyard like a dog seems like a little more than an “accident.” She had months to get it together. Pretty light sentencing if you ask us. SMH.
